I don't think I ever liked it but was always fascinated by it. Before the PS2 was released, this was one of the games Square promoted that was not Final Fantasy VIII (tech demo). Seeing early footage on TV at 60 frames (or fields) per second was mind blowing at the time.
The game though was interesting. It has that single episode anime OVA pacing that's fun, and sometimes stupid, to watch with gameplay that didn't really feel right. I get the idea of pressure-sensitive buttons allowing more moves but I think it made the game unnecessarily complicated. I do like the RPG-like system where IIRC does difficulty scaling, or at least damage scaling.
Honestly it would have been better for Dream Factory and Square to make a film rendered at realtime, minus the game part. I probably would just play Tobal 2 or Ehrgeiz if I want to play something. At least it's not Kakuto Chojin.
I have been listening to Power Trip for a while. Awesome crossover thrash metal band. Just bought their newest album Nightmare Logic and I am in love with it. It's not trying to reinvent anything but just wanna rip. Here is a full set from This is Hardcore fest last year and it looks crazy as hell. Makes me wanna go to a show when they come near my area.
The rise of nu-metal era came about during the early 90's with bands like Korn and Deftones, what it transformed into was a progressive genre, and even these same bands were later exposed to it and also converted their fans tastes for it. Nu-metal kinda died in the late 90's with other genres like cheesy hip/hop music and Tupac... Metal has since been very progressive, cleaner production values, more main-stream interests. Modern metal sounds, bands like Animals as Leaders, Meshuggha, shit like that ... totally took over, for the better, heavier, more agressive, less whiny.
I don't necessarily agree with that especially since engineers compete against each other and even themselves for a production that sounds more or less similar.
it sets giant bomb apart for me. don't see those youtube whippersnappers touching old games with a ten foot pole!
Mega Man Let's Play and Contra Let's Play both return 11,000,000+ (yes, million) results on YouTube.
The Retro category on Twitch might not be super big but there are always streams of older games with folks watching because it's all centralized. You can go from watching SMB to some random obscure Japanese adventure game on the PS1 called Juggernaut.
I don't really like musicals but I did love the seamless blend of a grounded story with nicely composed songs that made me hum on the drive home. Much like Whiplash, the grounded story is strengthened by acting that feels believable and relatable. The theme of fantasy vs. reality clash well because a lot of us dream for something better but we deal with the harshness of real life. That said, we always want to pull through and sometimes it works. It's important that it concluded with a bittersweet ending featuring an amazing burst of music. I had to acknowledge that life isn't the greatest but I should be optimistic nonetheless.
