    Alan Wake Review 0

Alan Wake is a game that has been in development for quite a while, and finally we are able to get our hands on it. In the game you play as Alan Wake, a struggling author trying to find some relief in the little town of Bright Falls. You and your wife plan on staying in a cabin on a lake, but there's something wrong. The first night you're there she gets pulled into the lake and you try to save her, only to wake up in a crashed car. This is where the real story starts as you'll have to walk th...

The Hits and Misses: Alan Wake 0

The HITS  Fantastic Storytelling, start to finish. I thought this was gunna be this sorta cheesy Twin Peaks/ Stephen King spoof but it really comes into its own. The characters are fairly well done, the plot and background mythology go into Lost-calibre nuttiness while remaining coherent. The gameworld is littered with clues that are really easy to miss. It kinda reminds me of Bioshock in that to really enjoy this game you have to take it really really slowly. So many v...

Alan Wake Review: A man with an interesting tale 0

Alan Wake is not just the title of the game, it is a man grasping for answers throughout his frantic, foreboding search for his missing wife.  As each hour passes by he tries to grab hold of his mind while it derails itself from sanity. He becomes tormented by the inhabitants of Bright Falls, a small town somewhere in the Pacific Northwest where he and his wife decide to take a short vacation. Alan Wake is by no means a horror-game, nor is it an action-game, it’s a psychological thriller with el...

Fun, but man Alan Wake is a douche 0

Alan Wake is a dark, moody, foreboding, ominous psychological action thriller third-person shooter for Xbox 360. The game is held up by its involving and constantly twisting story, unique visual style and gameplay mechanics that make it a lot of fun to play. However, there is one glaring thing about the game which severely tarnished my overall experience with what is otherwise a very nicely made game. Alan Wake is a douche.  The story starts off with novelist Alan Wake and his wife Alice going...

    Silent Hill's big brother 0

Okay, so maybe this game has nothing to do with Silent Hill by  Konami but this game comes with all the bells and whistles that make this game an instant classic.  The only (and I do mean only) complaint I have about this game is the lip sync is off pretty bad.  The story will grab you in your "no-no" place and force you to continue to play.  The cut scenes are horrifying in a weird and twisted way that makes you wonder what's going to happen next, and the controls are very responsive and the en...

    Too Many Metaphors 0

Alan Wake has two great qualities, both surprising. The first is the use of light. Surprising in that it is used so well to evoke atmosphere and even as a gameplay mechanic. The second is the story. The dialogue can be overwrought, and the lip synching is fantastically awful, but the character of Alan Wake ends up being actually very believable, and the whole thing is tied up perfectly (in that it's a little ambiguous). Wake's character arc is sympathetic, and the supporting characters aren't ju...

Not Perfect, but Excellent all the same 0

Alan Wake. (The Stephen King of Videogames)  I wasnt following this game all that much when it was first released and it slipped past me, no thanks to to job I was working, but when I actually sat down and played it after a friend loaned it to me, I was incredibly suprised. I'm a sucker for a good story, and a huge fan of Stephen King to boot, so this story was hauntingly familiar in its telling and the gameplay kept it moving fluidly, never missing a beat. Some parts within the chapters are a l...

    Variety is Key 0

I began playing Alan Wake because I am a big horror fan, but the problem is, I don't find too many games all that scary. With that said Alan Wake is pretty creepy. It uses it's atmosphere to great lengths and overall it adds to the experience. Hell, I'd say it is the experience. I feel the first few episodes and the last few are great bookends to a mediocre middle. environments need better variety  and combat gets tedious pretty quickly, but to Remedy's credit they tried to keep it varied enough...

    A Thriller 0

This is a game that is absolutely brilliant. You will feel like you're the one that is lost in an unfamiliar dark and creepy town. The developers did an excellent job at making Alan Wake relatable. Alan has flaws yet a conscience that leads him thru the right path. Well, that and his best friend Barry. Barry is one of the best supporting personalities I've seen in a while. He is funny and has the "you won't take me alive" attitude. As you go through the game you will stumble upon TVs that have a...

    Alan Woke Up 0

Alan wake is a survival horror game at its best. With the game being in development for over six years and going through many changes it was hard to know what to expect when the game actually released. The game changed from being an open world game to a more linear horror story, which is more than likely for the best. The game still features large open areas that you can explore but open world or sandbox is hardly the way to describe this game. Alan Wake is produced by Remedy Entertainment which...

A Compelling Story and A Gripping Atmosphere 0

Welcome to scenic Bright Falls. Alan Wake is a story-focused third-person shooter from the team at Remedy Entertainment. Spending more than half a decade in development and being finally released in 2010 this game still manages to live up to expectations. The title character of the game, Alan Wake, is a troubled novelist who earned a name for himself penning best-sellers but has found himself unable to write anything for the previous two years. To try and cure his tragic case of writer’s b...

Amazing setup that loses steam halfway through. 0

The good news is the first half of Alan Wake is an absolute stunner. In the back of my mind, I was comparing this experience to the very similar-in-concept adventure thriller, Heavy Rain, and I have to tip my cap in Alan Wake's direction for the first few hours. Remedy does an excellent job gently sinking you into an increasingly creepy small wilderness town and gradually unfolding a genuinely intriguing mystery story. If you're at all a fan of "Twin Peaks" or "The Twilight Zone," this game scra...

Alan Wake doesn't play amazingly, but the story truely is. 0

Alan Wake: Review  By GunGrave TZARemedy Entertainment have become known for taking a very long time to create their games, but when they are finally released, they are always excellent. Max Payne still to this day effects game design as a whole, with the concept of "Bullet Time" introducing a whole new gameplay element to the third person shooter genre. Max Payne 2 improved the gameplay even further, making it more fluid and enjoyable. And now, after 5 years in development, Alan Wake was rele...

    So disappointing 0

Alan Wake disappointed me so much I could get shouty about it. It’s the third game to do that in any genuine fashion, after Ubi’s Prince of Persia reboot and Bioware’s Jade Empire.Alan Wake gets nearly everything wrong. The writing is atrocious; This dude is supposed to be some sort of Stephen King dude, yet every single page you collect of his writing is some of the most awful shit imaginable. Alan Wake the author is August Derleth to Lovecraft, a simulacra. The notion appears to be that pulp w...

Alan Wake mixes light and darkness in spectacular ways. 0

I’ve never been a fan of the horror genre. I don’t like the creepy lead up to an inevitable, predictable jump scare, or the dumb-looking monsters that usually serve said purpose. It was interesting, then, that a game like Alan Wake made such an impression on me after just a couple hours of gameplay. Remedy has crafted a game that utilizes the creepy atmosphere, and its surroundings, to serve the story - not just for cheap thrills. Alan Wake is a prime example of a game that is more than the sum ...

    Alan Wake Review 0

Alan Wake, while having a couple of notable setbacks, presents a new way of interactive storytelling in a third-person environment that keeps you motivated all the way through. It’s setting is artful and provoking even though the game is six years old. If you like mystery and crime esque TV shows, Alan Wake is a must for you.Remedy's third-person shooter has an interesting protagonist that feels unique in terms of video game heroes. The hero, Alan Wake, is a writer who was inspired by the ...

The not so perfect masterpiece 0

Years ago, when I first heard of Alan Wake, I imagined something Max-Payne-like game...All I read and heard in the computer websites was that the game will have a unique and brand new horror-game mechanic. The whole struggle for light in the entire game sounded very cool and ambitious, but is it really well made...I don't think so. Two years ago I played Alan Wake on Xbox360 and it was my first touch with the game, although the game copy was not mine...a friend of mine showed it to me. Immediate...

    Fun but Flawed 0

Game-play - Interesting but combat gets repetitive; ultimately it's the story that drives you.Camera - Great when you're just exploring the nooks and crannies; terrible when you're fighting. It's way too close so when a bad guy attacks you from behind you don't know until it actually hits you. Seeing as how dodging is integral to fighting effectively it results in some extremely cheap shots, especially from the enemies that throw weapons. It becomes even worse when you get to areas where you get...

You certainly haven't played a game like Alan Wake before 0

Alan Wake is one of the most unique AAA titles to arrive on the PC in some time. Unlike most big budget games nowadays, it was clearly made without the usual interference from the twits in the Marketing Department. You know these people – they are the airheads who make sure that every game has regenerating health, two weapons, a cover system, and tons of brown and gray. When making Alan Wake, Remedy designed a totally unique horror experience with lots of great encounters. At the same time, they...

Things that go bump in the night 0

If you like story driven games that are slow burners with heaps of atmosphere than this game is definitely for you. Alan Wake is more a TV show than a game, and the premise is fresh and fun.The graphics won't be pushing your PC to the limit, but the world is vividly imagined with minute realistic details. I loved the way the trees were swaying during my nocturnal flights of fear. There were murmurs of complaint that the game wasn't scary enough nor that it had enough action. I found the game a fu...
