that's good to hear. i don't actually own the game, but updates like this one should be free.

Wish it was some different new content but how do you argue with free.

I need a patch on 360 before I'll care about "new AKA finished" content, that damn Microsoft certification process takes forever.

I'm sorta disappointed with Left 4 Dead, and lack of content is one of the main reasons. So I'm glad to see this coming for free.

Big deal, those 2 maps should have shipped with the game ready for online play.

Don't forget about the SDK; that's the only important part of this update for me personally because I own the PC version.  I'm ready for some user-created campaigns.

Well, It should be free. It really only added modes that should have been put in the game at launch.

It Sounded like a scam to you? is that because it would of most likely of been free for PC and not for the 360? or was it the fact that the game had a low amount of content just so they could "add" more later? i don't think it's the latter, or at least the eternal optimist in me thinks so.

Anyway, it's good that 360 users get it free i guess. But still, not the L4DLC i was hoping for.

It certainly does feel like them finishing the game, which makes me laugh every time I read people talking about how awesome it is that Valve are releasing this update for free.

Left 4 Dead is awesome, but the unquestionable outcry for content that game owners are looking for is fresh campaign maps. Give us a couple more every few months, even if we have to pay for them. I think the first batch should be free, because as much as I love this game to death (no pun intended), I feel let down by the lack of game content, which has kept me from playing this game for the length of time that I by all accounts should be.

Everyone is complaining about the lack of content but honestly, I have been playing the same 2 versus maps since the game came out. A LOT.

 2 more is absolutely beautiful to me.

When Left 4 Dead was announced I didn't expect too much from it because this type of game was untested, and the closest thing that would match it's quality (if you can call it that) was the Resident Evil: Outbreak series, and we all know how those games turned out. So if L4D had two online maps to play on I wasn't too worried.

However, what is shocking to me is how Microsoft agreed to give away the DLC. That in itself is a suprise! In the past they would put a price tag on every little thing, and now their more receptive of giving away worth while items including XBLA games. Change is good! But for how long?

Not surprising, considering Valve is soulmates with everybody.

Considering how much (lack of) content shipped with the game, they're damn fucking right this is going to be free. Of course I would never think any less of Valve.

at least value are releasing it free..more companies should have balls to do this..for eample the map pack on GOW 2..paying 800 points for 3 maps is a joke...good on you value

Valve has said time and time again that they think all DLC should be free.  If you buy the game, you should get all the other content in the future that goes with it, that's their stance.  So, whether or not you consider this "finishing the game", Valve is going to be more willing than most other publishers to give you what you deserve: a full game experience, regardless of how much time that takes.  And if they haven't proved it for you, then I'm sure they will.  It's obvious that they want to deliver a top-notch experience just through watching what they've done with Team Fortress 2.

Now, if you made the mistake of buying the game on the Xbox 360, you signed up for paid downloadable content.  It's been shown time and time again that with Microsoft as the middleman for downloadable content, you're going to have to pay when Microsoft thinks it needs to be paid, not necessarily the when the developer/publisher think it should.  Not only that, but if you haven't learned that Valve's lead SKU will be PC for most all of their games by now, you just haven't been paying attention.

Ya,the best part of this is definitely the SDK for the PC version.That basically is like getting hundred's of map's for free.So while the DLC will be free,the console version is once again being left in the dust by the sheer capability of the PC.

wait...so....user-created maps? That's enough for me. Although, this really isn't anything other than a patch. SDK Base is best part of this deal for sure.

Left 4 Dead is criminaly overrated. The guns are ridiculously dull. The Source Engine is \Gär-boj\. Call of Duty World at War's Nazi Zombie mode is way better - especially after you download all the great custom maps people have contributed over the last few months.

I find it weird they chose to make this comment on Steam though in the first place. Everyone knows it was free on the PC, its more just telling the 360 users its free for them too. Ah whatever, I just can't wait for the SDK.

While this is all good and fine, I'd rather get the hookup with maybe a new campaign or two.  I'm not sure of anyone who's heard this news that's too happy with it, I mean, it'll be great to get some more vs. action, but we've already played the hell out of those 2 campaigns in coop, I think by spring (or...now), people will be ready to see something new.

This game's only real criticism from launch was a lack of content, and for whatever reason, Valve seems to be dropping the ball and losing momentum on it.  I think they're walking a fine line between taking their time to get new content or an SDK out and hitting a point where people have moved on and just don't care anymore, especially 360 owners, who tend to be a very Game of the Month type of club.  Not that the SDK would help 360 owners at all, but still.

Valve just continues to prove that their awesome.

they are current generation of consoles, and 360 is over 3 years old i have had since launch when ps3 and wii came out 2 years ago the current generation of consoles was official for evryone

If L4D pack wasn't free on the PC there is something wrong, on the 360 it would be fine.

I got this game for Xmas & I haven't even started playing yet. I guess I'll get started pretty soon.

Valve does a great job updating Team Fortress 2, and now this.. but the so called "update" should've been there when the game released..

I knew it! from Day One I knew they'd add the other two scenarios into versus mode and I knew it would be free. Valve is downright awesome for this (see also: Team Fortress 2). If only they made the types of games I liked... I end up buying these games just because the idea of free updates is so refreshing, yet I don't end up playing them enough to warrant what I paid :(. No doubt their games are quality though.
