Sony Confirms Vita Launch Lineup

25 games available on Day 1 with 10 more listed as "launch window" releases.

Sold. I suspect I'll hate myself almost immediately afterwards, but... sold.
Sold. I suspect I'll hate myself almost immediately afterwards, but... sold.

As part of my efforts to keep the data looking A-OK on Giant Bomb, I've recently been digging through press releases and retailer sites in an attempt to figure out what, exactly, is launching alongside the Vita when it hits North America next February. The bits and pieces out there weren't great or conclusive, so I'm a bit relieved that Sony decided to make it somewhat easier by posting a list of confirmed launch day and launch window releases over on its official blog.

Here's the lowdown:

Launch Day Retail Games

These balls are not available in stores.
These balls are not available in stores.

While some or all of those games will also be available for sale digitally through the PlayStation Store, there will also be a few launch games that are digital-only. Which ones, you ask? Well, how about...

Launch Day PSN-Only Games

And, lastly, these are "launch window" games, which I take to mean as games that absolutely won't be available on launch day, but should be available soon after. Sony simply doesn't specify what sort of timeframe it's referring to. Retailers are listing launch day (or pre-launch day) dates for most of these games right now, so we'll have to sit on our hands and wait to figure out what's up with these games, as some of them were originally slated for launch. Maybe they'll still make it out in time?

Launch Window Releases

It's very interesting (to me, anyway) to see Ridge Racer not in the Day 1 column. Maybe the US version won't just be some sort of three-track rip-off like it apparently is overseas? Pricing details, or at least a range of prices, were also briefly discussed. Each of the games listed above will fall somewhere between $9.99 and $49.99.

Why does Escape Plan & Super StarDust Delta have to be in the "escape window"? I was really looking forward to playing those games Day 1.

Bit of an expensive lineup for the European launch.. and no 32GB memory cards? Are Sony having a joke?

There are an incredible amount of games on this list that look great. I may have to pick one up at launch now!

Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Lumines Electronic Symphony, Touch My Katamari, Escape Plan, Gravity Rush, Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention, and Silent Hill: Book of Memories are all possible buys!

You can get a 32GB MicroSD for around $30-$35 on Amazon.

Sony charges around $100 for the equivalent.

I'm curious to see if there's any speed difference though. I'd hope so.

Just like with the PSP, I'm sure there will be adapters out within a year or two.

Successor to a hand held that wasn't popular outside of Japan

Priced higher than 3DS

No games that would push hardware. No Mario, Pokemon, and in Japan no Monster Hunter

Overpriced memory cards

DOOOOOOOOMED!!!!!

Lumines and P4P are all I'd buy for this... Wait, that sounds awkwardly familiar...

PSP library: Lumines 1, Lumines 2, Persona 3 Portable, DJMAX Portable 3.

I definitely want Persona 4, but look like it isn't going to make the launch line up.

That said, Dynasty Warriors Next looks interesting. I have never played a Dynasty Warriors game before, now could be the time to start.

Shinobido is also something that interest me. I have seen videos of it, it takes place in ancient Japan an intriguing setting to me but don't know if I can handle the action based game play - I have the reflexes of a turtle.

We will see.

Depending on the condition of my wallet and whether I'm in the need of "retail therapy" come Feb, I may or may not get it on launch day. But I will get it eventually, Persona 4 more or less sold it to me.

The 3DS didn't have much games to "push hardware" available at launch either. Heck, during launch it didn't have much games at all. Period.

The PSV has a way better launch line up, by far, no matter how you cut it. This is something Sony has done right.

Overpriced memory cards

So? Unless you are planning to download most of your games, you are only going to need one. Most cartridge based game don't even need it.

The cheapest memory card go for $20 dollars.

You know what else cost $20 dollars?

The hideous add-on for the 3DS that runs off a AAA battery, bloats the size of the 3DS by 30%, which exist solely to fix an oversight by Nintendo when they rushed the 3DS out, that you need so you can play games like MH properly.

Depending on how good Army Corps of Hell actually turns out to be, I might get one near launch date.

Now THIS is how you launch a console. I have ear marked 3 I will get and a further 5 games of interest. Which is the most of any console launch since I got a Megadrive (Genesis). This is much better than the lackluster 3DS launch, which now has about 3 games worth a damn.

I couldn't yawn more at that launch list if I tried ....... personal taste and all. The only game slightly interesting to me is Disgaea 3, but I have a PS3 version already. Therein lies the problem I forsee with the PSV ........ games that are essentially the same as the PS3. I see myself with a PSV, but not until it drops by $100 ...... at least a year away, possibly 2.

My biggest personal beef with the PSV is the battery ....it is internal and my hate for internal batteries on Apple product is bad enough, but for a game console, it is far worse. I don't want to send my console away when the battery is useless. I want to be able to carry a spare battery for longer use away from power. It is a trend I really despise and potentially a deal breaker.

The suggestion of a Persona 4 remake-thing is enough to get me excited.

If they make Persona 4: the Golden released for the US region (as it's just for Japan right now) then I would buy the Vita in a heartbeat!

I was sold awhile back after E3 and preordered after TGS. I cannot wait for this system. I would love to have a parry system version of SF3 using backtouch for parries on this thing. Judging from the lineup and truly new IPS like Escape plan, Gravity Rush and Sound shapes I will be getting my moneys worth. Plus New versions of Lumines, Wipeout, Road Trip, LBP and Uncharted do not hurt either.

Both the Launch line-up and memory card prices look good to me. I will be getting the 32GB memory card and using my PS3 and hopefully my Mac later to manage my Vita Games (They announced that at some time in the future they will finally support managing the PS Vita Games on the Mac, but It won't make launch).

I'll buy one if they put great games on it. Most of the games on this list already exist elsewhere (ports) or are the usual, made-for-release day fare. Not that I'm immune to it, but they seem like great games to buy if you want something to play on the Vita you just payed for; not excellent games in their own right that haven't been done better elsewhere.

Whatever, buy good games.

I'll start out with WipEout 2048. It's only tradition since WipEout Pure was my first PSP game on day one. Then wait patiently for the Disgaea 3 Spring release. :)
