Ubisoft Responds to Assassin's Creed III Leaks by Just Up and Revealing its Cover Art [UPDATED]
I am psyched for this. Maybe I'll be less psyched once I get around to playing Revelations but for now I am psyched.
looks like patrick aint that familiar with Assassins creed minutae. Its known that the founding fathers were evil templars in possession of an apple. Which i guess got passed down to their ancestors. So odds are The main character will be fighting american bluecoats. They may try to portray the red coats as fighting against the evil templar bluecoats trying to claim the new country.
While it's adorable that some people think you'll be primarily assassinating the British, Ubisoft doesn't exactly have a patriotic stake in the setting. I'm sure you'll do a fair amount of murderin' both American and British people.
Though yeah, I'm sure all of the promotional material will show British troops being assassinated, because this game is pandering to the American market SO HARD.

I find it funny how much people hate America, just cause. A Canadian developed game, with a multitude of nationalities developing it, set in a time period most games (Age of Empire III is the only other game I can think of during the American Revolution) shy away from, and yet, everyone is up in arms about it?
It is trendy right now, didn't you know? Joking aside, I personally think that the direction they've gone is outstanding and refreshing. Now if they can implement some new woodland stealth type mechanics, that would be pretty wicked.
@jakonovski:
Internet bet, whoever wants to take it: twenty bucks says the main character will be mixed.

Ughh. Of all the rumoured settings this one had the least appeal to me. American Civil War just doesn't interest me. I hope Ubisoft can do something good with it.
I really would've like feudal Japan or even ancient Eygpt...
It's set in the American Revolution not the Civil War.
So are we assuming the dude we play as well be part-Native American who's totally pro-Washington's forces and so on, fighting against the British who are mixed up with the Templar stuff? Lots of Native Americans fought for the British as well, so I'm hoping you fight for neither completely, to make it more interesting.
Heck yes. YES. Insta-buy. They were suggesting the possibility of colonial America on the Bombcast, and I thought that would be amazing.
Man, people don't know what they're talking about. Boston, Philadelphia, and New York were all large, well established cities with multi-story brick buildings. There won't be a problem with city traversal. If anything they can just make the buildings a few stories lareger than they would have been, the AC games play pretty fast and loose with history anyways. The population of those cities was also comparable with Rome during Brotherhood and likely higher than Constantinople during Revalations.
I'm guessing that most of you who say that Revolutionary War-era architecture is dull or uninteresting haven't really spent much time on the east coast of America, or visited the historical districts of Philadelphia or New York. I think you're picture Jamestown circa 1650. At least this will clear up a lot of those misconceptions!
And obviously Ubisoft isn't going to paint themselves into a corner.
Then again being British I might be a bit bias.
Then again again! Modern day world shows the USA & the UK are the strongest 'power couple' currrently in the world I would say.
The real hot potato will be how they portray slavery. In a game that is all about freedom, they pretty much need to take it into account.

As far as I'm concerned they already did the worst thing they could do back in AC2, but that's a different discussion altogether.

Ditto! New setting, new character, more opportunities for crazy conspiracy history type stuff and to shake up the old formulas and mechanics into something new and hopefully cool? You have my interest, Ubisoft. Show us what you got.

I'd be curious how they tackle that as well.
OK, so we know how they're going to portray the English, the real question on everybody's minds is how they portray the French. Boston Tea Party and all for sure but the French were real arseholes throughout the Secession and the Civil War.
I'm interested in seeing whether there's more of a focus on horse mounted combat in this game what with ranged weapons being more available during this period in history. Also noticed a lack of any visible hidden blade in the promotional images, wonder if we'll see it take a step back as the primary go-to-weapon for the protagonist.

Why would you need blades when you have Tomahawks?
I could never get into these games. The whole Your not really that guy, you just some dude playing some dude through some machine.... Jesus Christ its fucking not needed. I think the games would of been a little more appealing without that stupid scifi twist.
Even if this assassin is killing templars on both sides, how do you think that'll go down with Americans? I don't think Ubisoft have the balls to have the assassin kill American soldiers. They probably know it'll be less of a deal with the British but I can't see them allowing you to kill American soldiers. So the idea of him being a middle man, killing templars who are entrenched on both sides is the best case scenario. I don't think it'll be the case.
@BigChickenDinner: I think the sci-fi twist makes it very appealing.
It's a great storytelling device, that gives them a ton of freedom.
I don't see how it makes our playtime in those historical locations any less relevant or "realistic". I mean, if I wanted that...I wouldn't want to climb those towers.
I also think it leads into some cool, nearly fourth wall breaking aspects. Like, Desmond being told why Ezio is speaking english and why he can see the subtitles. And the HUD being present, as well as a map.

There are too many things in the gameplay I don't know how they will translate to the new setting.
I will also be disappointed if all the templars are on the british side, while the good guys are all american revolutionaries... Seems too politically correct for a game made out of "different people from different cultures".
That is the Freemason uniform, Benjamin Franklin was a Freemason aswell, but its not the same thing as the Templars.
@Bobby_The_Great: I love how if you're disappointed with this setting, because some were hoping for feudal Japan etc. you suddenly hate America.

How do we even know it's of Native American descent?
Because I guess it has to be. He has a bow and arrow and a war axe. If Alex says he is, then it must be true.
I approve of this. After Brotherhood, Revelations was a bit of a stumbling block, but then it was originally designed for handhelds... I am convinced that this is going to be a return to form. AND WHAT A SETTING! and yes I am British.

That's a big if though.

Highly doubt they'll do that.
I'd wager you have nothing to worry about.

Apparently, the team working on this is a senior team that has focused solely on this project since ACII. The other two games were done by other teams. That is really encouraging. ALSO FUCK YEAH TOMAHAWKS.
I really hope this is true, because I need more than just AC2 with multiplayer to care at this point. Really hope they revitalise the series with this.
@TrueEnglishGent: You've been killing all sides in every Assassin's Creed game so far, and to make an exception in the case of American soldiers would be such a cowardly move that the game would inevitably be bland as fuck.

Why not Modern Warefare 2 did it, and no one gave a shit.
