Batman: Arkham Asylum Gets GOTY Edition
It's been kicked around a bit as a foreign release for Europe, Australia, and Asia, but Eidos and Warner Bros. have confirmed a North American release for an updated version of Rocksteady's hell-of-rad Batman game, Arkham Asylum.
Content-wise, this new "Game of the Year" release will toss four maps that were previously released as downloads onto the disc. It'll also include support for TriOviz 3D, which is a glasses-only display mode that doesn't require you to own some crazy fancy 3D TV. 3D glasses will be included with the package.
While Europe and Australasia will get this new release on March 26, those of us in North America will be left hanging until May 11. The GOTY version of the game is scheduled to be released on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. Also, I believe this may have a fresh set of achievements, which could add something like two more sets to the achievement list. Considering there are already three discreet points-containing versions of the game, that leaves Batman-loving points fiends with a lot more points potential.
But only crazy people would play Batman to completion five times, right?

3D glasses for real? Sounds pretty awesome. Might check it out. How is it going to work correctly though?
The 3D sounds... interesting. Not a selling point, but... interesting. I just don't know how the game would benefit from this addition. What would be popping off the screen? Batman's cape as he glides?
Wait, so if I already played this on 360 and play the GOTY edition also on 360 I'll get more points? I'm willing to do that.
Have Batman show up twice on my completed game list? Hells yea!
Speaking of - what were the 'other' versions Jeff mentioned?
I dont know. There are many GOTY editions that end up being full price. Thats the reason they have the GOTY edition, so the publishers can package the DLC, and get away with charging $60 for it. If I were to bet, I'd say this is going to start out at $60
Haven't bought this game yet, so great!
But then again, I don't care about the 3D glasses and stuff. Gimme an artbook or a soundtrack CD or a metal casing any day though.
Maybe if the X360 version would get the Joker challenge maps... but I don't want to support 3D. Seriously, Avatar was the flagship title for 3D and all I saw was a layered effect with blurry ashes; not worth it to see longer development cycles and CPU space being wasted to run 3D tech.
If you love 3D, just make sure your TV has the proper refresh rate and you don't wear prescription glasses (if you do, then forget about enjoying 3D).
I already have two copies of the game and i'm a really big batman fan. Maybe i'll have a third copy of the game, I like to see it in 3d.
YESSSSS!!! good thing I was so busy playing other games around that time of year last year... now I can GET MAH BATMANS ON!!
I'm Batman.
Or at least I like to play this game. New trophy bonuses? DLC I already have? Pointless 3D gimmick?
SOLD!
