EA Advertising is pathetic
"If you like Call of Duty Check out Battlefield Bad Company" - subtitle for a promoted video.
WTF EA? At least the spam advertising for NFS: Shift didn't involve dumbass Lowest Common Denominator advertising like this. I really liked the first Bad Company, and the 2nd one looks great, but seriously, why so lame EA?
It's actually kinda simple, and clever albeit cheap, think of how many people play CoD and how many people that play CoD use youtube, there will probably be alot of people checking that out because of the words "Call of Duty" it's one way to increase hits.
I don't see what is so bad about that. The Battlefield brand is not as well known as Call of Duty, and since Call of Duty is so well liked by people outside the "hardcore gaming" community, it makes sense for EA to relate their game with to it.
It would be dumb if EA had an advertisement like "Want Call of Duty with dedicated servers? LOLZ. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 - The best military FPS with dedicated servers and mod support." Just anything sleazy like that.

I know what you mean OP. It's kinda like when Hyundai ads are constantly comparing themselves to Honda, as if the ad already assumes you think the competition is better. It does make me a little uncomfortable when "off brand" companies market from the position of "lesser brands trying to compete".
What I glean from that is 'If you like that war game, you might like ours too' which is a staple of advertising.
" What? I don't get the big deal? "Me either. Though that ad is kinda in bad taste I think the OP just blown it way out proportions.
@zudthespud: Thats how PR works bro, nothing to get pissed about really. Haven't you notice the aggressive PR publishers (and some developers) have been doing in the last year?
There's nothing wrong with that. Pathetic advertising would be ads that feature scantily clad girls.
lol MX vs ATV Reflex :D" There's nothing wrong with that. Pathetic advertising would be ads that feature scantily clad girls. "
I guess I'm disappointed in EA. Over the last couple of years I have grown to like EA, mostly because of their originality. I look at games like Mirror's Edge and Skate, and while they aren't perfect by any means at least they are trying something new, which I appreciate. Similarly this year's reboot of the Need for Speed Franchise, EA have obviously realised that producing the same mediocre game year on year doesn't get good sales, To be able to release a good game year on year however makes people come back for more, see Call of Duty.
It makes it even easier to like EA because Activision are now perceived as the bad guys. EA's the underdog now.
So when they make a crappy advert like this it just makes me think that they are so desperate for sales they are sacrificing their public image.
" @demonbear: There using another companies game to lure people in to theres, I find that pretty pathetic, they should just use there own game to lure people in and maybe have a small list of features, tell people why it's better then COD not why it's like COD. "
And that is why you don't work in game advertising :)
... and if you do, well...
Agreed, not really a big deal. Lazy and cheap, but effective. Now they don't have to go spend a bunch more money advertising all their awesome features when they can just be like. Hey if you like that game you'll like this game. And then you play it and find out its better or something like that. Just a hook to get you to try it once because its similar.
lol the advert has been changed now:
It's pretty lame, but it's also inexpensive and effective enough.
In fact, I'd say this one is much worse.
I would've advertised it the same way. I mean, Bad Company was more like Call of Duty with some Battlefield trademarks than vice versa. It's a good plateau for it, and it's topical. There's no such thing as bad advertisement, and that's basically FREE advertisement that is better than anything money can buy.
