    Overview

The Clannad franchise first began with Clannad, a visual novel produced by Key, following their production of the relatively popular visual novels Kanon and Air. Clannad became incredibly popular following its release, leading the game to receive a set of manga adaptations, as well as a followup, Tomoyo After, and a number of side stories which would later form Clannad Side Stories.

Since then, Clannad has received as number of additional adaptations, most notably a 2007 anime adaptation of both Clannad and Tomoyo After (referred to as "Clannad: After Story".) While reception of the anime was somewhat mixed at first, reception of After Story was overwhelmingly positive, with the series appearing among the highest-rated anime of all time on most anime websites.
