I've come to the realisation as of late that I'm mad for third person action games. That saying I've been thinking about games that I've missed out on that have be both third person action and awesome. 
 But Dead Space is two years old now. I played GTA IV two years after it came out and it held up for me, do you guys think that Dead Space will hold up? Considering I can get it for cheap any way I reckon its worth taking a punt. 
 
Any other awesome third person games you could recommend over the last few years would be great. 
 
I own a PS3 and have Uncharted 1-2, Red Dead Redemption and a bunch of other third person shooters.

Definitely holds up. I finished it just recently for the first time myself and it's still a top-notch game in almost every department.

I just finished Dead Space a week ago for the first time, and I can say it still holds up. In fact, it might be the best survival horror game I have ever played. i instantly started a second play through, which is something I rarely do with any game.

Ok. So under the assumption that you are a gamer who gets significantly (ie purchase decision influencing) put off by gaming mechanics and convention as old as two years, I would say - No, don't buy Dead Space...? "

Absolutely. It's still one of the very best third-person shooters on the market, both graphically and mechanically.

I think it still totally holds up today.

Holds up better than RE5's stop and shoot mechanics. So yes, it holds up very well. It has no cover system though, cause, ya know...necromorphs.

If you think that GTA4 held up well after 2 years, then you will think Dead Space is a brand new game.

yessir. I downloaded it off Games on Demand on xbox live and played it for the first time a couple of months ago, and it was damn scary, and damn fun.

You're joking right? It's not like it's from last gen. I'm going through the game again right now to get the full 1000 and be ready for the second game.

some games are deserved to wait for long. dead space is one of them. I aware of its production quality as highly. I understand that studio needs time to make this game even more better than one. dead space 2 looks very very promising. it's better than original. I pre-ordered dead space 2 collector edition. I can't wait for it. by the way, it's shame that there is only few studios. they can handle game polish, quality. everybody waited for fallout new vegas. so what's now? it looks like beta. I can't believe myself. tons of bugs. even though people like that? I can't accept it for that quality. graphic, engine what they use for game is totally ancient. I just sold that damn game three days ago. you do better playing medal of honor than this shitty RPG shooting game. at least you won't be bored.

This thread makes me think about how no one these days seems to be able to go back to games or even remember games or that long. I've played the best games of this generation and still go back to Gamecube games still. Other people seem to not be able to even consider a game that's a year old.

Yes it does. Dead Space is awesome. Played through it four times on Xbox 360 and I'm seriously thinking about buying it for PS3, just to get all the trophies.

This thread is over two months old and yes... for Dead Space. Except for those fucking turret sections, fuck those.

It holds up better than most recent 3rd person shooters, you'll love it provided you have the stomach for plenty of jump scares.

Read my review, I did that the other day, and I only played the game 2 months ago.

Totally, picked it up a month ago and loved it. The production values are through the roof for a new IP, and the gameplay is solid, so what wouldn't hold up?

Yes, Dead Space is amazing. Fantastic Third Person Shooter. Play it, love it.

Started last weekend and finished it up today.  Hell yes, amazing game.  Now time to play through Ignition and then rip the plastic off of Dead Space 2.

Not sure if I should play mass effect 2 its like a year old.

I got bored halfway through actually. Just seemed like RE4/5 with sick production values, nice atmosphere and shooter mechanics but without the diversity and set pieces. But I'll probably finish it soon and admit to loving it. I'm a sucker for presentation and this game is king in that regard.
