Best Mario Game? Choose 1 out of my 3
I have better memories of playing 3 with a cousin when we were both kids, but I enjoyed playing world the most.
64 probably had the most impact one me. When I was playing SMB3, it was alongside a bunch of other 2D platformers like Megaman, so it didn't really feel unique. 64 as mindblowing though.
1. Super Mario World
"All three are wrong, the only real choice is Mario Tennis. "
mario tennis on n64 or virtual boy?
Damn it don't give me those 3. *sigh*
I guess if I had to
3 World then 64 or World, 3 then 64 I really couldn't tell you.
- Mario 64
- Super Mario World
- Super Mario Bros 3
I go back and play 64 and I make it all the way through; I play Mario Bros 3 for about ten minutes and I turn it off.
" 1. SMW2. SB33. SM64I definently had more fun playing Super Mario World than Super Mario Bros 3. "Same here. Besides, Yoshi is amazing.
64 still feels like a fresh, unique modern experience.
Of these three, I'd say
1. SMW - The byzantine level exits and secret areas were brilliant game design, by far the most challenging and rewarding of the three games to 100%
2. SM64 - I've been playing this with my girlfriend's five year old son the last few weeks on VC and immediately remembered how mind-blowing the game was to me when it first came out. The Water Theme is still one of my favorite game tunes ever, I could whistle that tune for days straight and never get sick of it.
3. SM3 - Awesome game, but aren't all Mario games? I even kinda loved Sunshine for its cohesive atmosphere and the first hints of the obstacle-course oriented levels.
That said, I think the Galaxy games are brilliant, and currently top my personal list.

" 3 by far.In order:1) SMB 32) SMWand a distant 3rd3) SM64 Seriously. Go back and play 64. It is basically unplayable at this point, whereas SMB3 and SMW have a very timeless formula to them. "I completely disagree. Super Mario 64 is pretty much perfect. I love that game so god damned much...

"I'm curious as to why Mario 64's unplayable- I ask because I went back and played it (Seriously) and it's still great.

But it's real close."
I'm sure it's just a matter of preference. I've heard lots of praise for Mario 64 over the years, but I've just never felt. it. I played it when it first came out and it just felt janky to me, even at the time. I remember really struggling with the camera and the layout of the N64 controller didn't help matters at all. I went back and tried playing through it again a couple years ago when my buddy gave me his N64, and I still felt like it played like crap even after having played 100 third person action games/platformers at that time. I'm gerenally not a fan of 3D platformers to begin with, but they have gotten better over the years (Rachet and Clank or Prince of Persia for example), but Mario 64 just feels so archaic, and to me, it did at the time, which is why it is still my least favorite core Mario game (aside from Sunshine of course).
