3 by far.

In order:
1) SMB 3
2) SMW
and a distant 3rd
3) SM64

Seriously.  Go back and play 64.  It is basically unplayable at this point, whereas SMB3 and SMW have a very timeless formula to them.

I have better memories of playing 3 with a cousin when we were both kids, but I enjoyed playing world the most.

64 probably had the most impact one me. When I was playing SMB3, it was alongside a bunch of other 2D platformers like Megaman, so it didn't really feel unique. 64 as mindblowing though.

1. Super Mario World

2. Mario 3
3. Mario 64

I was a late comer to Mario 64, and I always preferred the open world system of Super Mario World and the saves. Being able to put it in and play my favorite levels without working to get there was nice.

That said, Mario 3 is awesome as hell. I just prefer some of the World changes.

3. SM64

  1. Mario 64
  2. Super Mario World
  3. Super Mario Bros 3

I go back and play 64 and I make it all the way through; I play Mario Bros 3 for about ten minutes and I turn it off.

Of these three, I'd say

1. SMW - The byzantine level exits and secret areas were brilliant game design, by far the most challenging and rewarding of the three games to 100%
2. SM64 - I've been playing this with my girlfriend's five year old son the last few weeks on VC and immediately remembered how mind-blowing the game was to me when it first came out. The Water Theme is still one of my favorite game tunes ever, I could whistle that tune for days straight and never get sick of it.
3. SM3 -  Awesome game, but aren't all Mario games? I even kinda loved Sunshine for its cohesive atmosphere and the first hints of the obstacle-course oriented levels.

That said, I think the Galaxy games are brilliant, and currently top my personal list.

this is also a rank of how much I PLAYED them, too. Plus, I even liked 64 DS which I just found out recently is almost universally reviled, because Mario 64 works THAT WELL

I honestly can't decide. The thing about World is that it didn't necessarily do anything new like 3 and 64 did. That said, I probably spent most of my time playing World.

I'll say World.

Can't remember if I played through all off World, but I have played through 3 numerous times and always loved it :D. So;

1. SMB 3
2. SMW
3. M64

Never really loved Mario 64, don't really know why but, just never loved N64 as an console either. And SMB3 was my second game ever.

I'm curious as to why Mario 64's unplayable- I ask because I went back and played it (Seriously) and it's still great.

That said, Super Mario World is my favorite out of those three, followed by 3, then Mario 64. But it's real close.

I'm sure it's just a matter of preference.  I've heard lots of praise for Mario 64 over the years, but I've just never felt. it.  I played it when it first came out and it just felt janky to me, even at the time.  I remember really struggling with the camera and the layout of the N64 controller didn't help matters at all.  I went back and tried playing through it again a couple years ago when my buddy gave me his N64, and I still felt like it played like crap even after having played 100 third person action games/platformers at that time.   I'm gerenally not a fan of 3D platformers to begin with, but they have gotten better over the years (Rachet and Clank or Prince of Persia for example), but Mario 64 just feels so archaic, and to me, it did at the time, which is why it is still my least favorite core Mario game (aside from Sunshine of course).

@phish09: I have gone back and played SM64 fairly recently. It's nowhere near unplayable. Edit: I don't mean to be an asshole, I just didn't think of asking you why you thought that, like TooWalrus did. I agree that the camera isn't always the best.
