Impossible. There's a lot of good games - but I don't think there's a perfect game. Besides, hopefully the game I'm playing right now is my favorite game right now.
Could you name a single game as your all time favorite?
Wouldn't say it's an easy decision, but I'm pretty sure I'd go with Pokémon Silver, I pumped hundreds of hours into it when I was younger and I still return to it with fond memories. I'm re(re-re?)playing the Soul Silver remakes right now also..sure it's prettier, but I'd still take the original.
I would say Metal Gear Solid 1 or Resident Evil 3. These are some of the first games I have ever played in my life, so I realize I am biased.
Yes, Tie Fighter. Although haven't played it for 15+ years.
I'd say I'm pretty comfortable with listing Resident Evil 2 as mine. There's a lot games I'd pile up in a list of ''all time favourite games'', but whenever I think about it, RE2 is always just a little ahead of the curb.
There's several I really love. The Secret of Monkey Island, Pokemon Red/Blue, Fallout 1, Super Mario World, etc.
But I don't think I could ever pick one as the absolute best.
I saw the reviews for Okami when it first came out and thought "it looks ok, I suppose". Eventually I bought it on a whim, and it blew me away. I've played games that have spanned thirty hours or more, but this game had so many stand-out moments that it actually felt like thirty hours in all the right ways. I was literally lost for words by the time the credits rolled.

I'd always start by listing 2 (A Link to the Past & Terranigma) and then I'd think about games from more recent years and the list would get longer and more confusing and result in me saying that there is no way to determine a total all time fave for me
Good choices, I'm right up there with A Link to the Past.
No, I couldn't name one. Persona 3 Portable, Mega Man Xtreme 2, and Dungeon Keeper are all up there.
Yes. I believe I can answer because I've had the same game at to top of my list for 8 years now; Knights of the Old Republic. There was a brief time in 2010 where I switch over to Dragon Age: Origins, but that didn't last and after playing KOTOR again after DAO I remembered why I held it in such high esteem.
My mind is going to... Pokemon Silver?
Sequel to my first game on my first console, perfect age for it, perfect friends for it at the time and even when I revisited it a few years ago through nefarious means it still resonated with me.
A lot of games come close, but if I could relive experiencing any other game for the first time it would probably still be Pokemon Silver.
As I got older, games got alot less exciting. Demon's Souls was the game that brought that childhood excitement back - the thrill of exploration, the consequence of dying, the fear of the unknown, the art style, the music, the setting, and the minimialistic plot, every detail of that game (excluding the bad camera angles) made it amazing.
No and I roll my eyes when I see mags or sites try to do it. I could do my top game per year but thats it. I couldn't even do a generation because there are just so many awesome games.

Phantasy Star Online. Pretty confident about that. Spent an absurd amount of time with it on the GameCube (loved all of it) and am now playing it on PC trying to work back up to my former glory.
Haha, thats awesome. I was completely addicted to that game in the V1 / V2 Dreamcast days.
As for my personal favourites, probably Persona 3 FES, P4, Ico, MGS, Silent Hill 2, FFVI & FFIX. Hard to choose a favourite among them.
If you were to ask me I'd say Earthbound without hesitation. The thing is, I also really like Mother 3, it's sequel; if it was actually released in the states, and if I had played it a few more times I could easily see that as my number 1.
What I have a problem with is when I think about a top 10. I don't like putting things that are too recent on the list, but the things that I like that are older I may just put on there because they are considered the best game of all time by the masses. Usually my top 10 has Metal Gear Solid 2 as the second best game, then some weird flow of Bayonetta, God Hand, Left 4 Dead 2, Team Fortress 2, Final Fantasy 6, LoZ:OoT, Persona 4, SuperMario RPG, Super Mario World, Resident Evil 4. Ahhh, So many other games I love, but I'm not so sure about.
Yes, Deus Ex.
Dark Souls. Based on the sheer number of hours playing it, nothing comes close, so I must like it a lot. Half Life, GTA III, Portal 2, and strangely even TDU(1), are near equal in terms of love-get; but you'd have to combine all of them to even come close to the number of hours that time-sucking spawn of the devil, Dark Souls, has stolen from my semi-productive life. Dark Souls has made me a less valuable member of society.
Nope just way to many awesome games over the years. Plus one year there may be one game ill just keep coming back to but then over time my tastes change and so does my free time which can limit what games I play. In the end there is no one game that I could say is my all time favourite.
.......but hey if you put a gun to my head my gut instinct would be to say Uncharted 2.........so there you go :P
It'd be a tough choice but I'd say Legend of Dragoon. That game came in to my life at a perfect time and every couple years I play the entire game over again because I love it.
While I don't like it anymore, I don't think I'll ever spend so much time or be as enthralled with another game as I was with World of Warcraft.
Serious Sam: The Second Encounter
(I really love the way this poll was structured, poking fun at people's tendencies to list games and being honest about it).
Not precisely, but when I look at hours played, friends made, deepest dedication and highest highs (and lowest lows) ever had playing a game World of Warcraft takes them all.
Nope. Just as I can't list a favorite movie, band, or book. I'm way too indecisive and can be very fickle.
You know, it's actually interesting seeing such diversity in people's answers...even if some people's choices are crappy :P
Off the top of my head: Majora's Mask/Ocarina of Time; Resident Evil 4; Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door; Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy); GTA: San Andreas/ Vice City; Super Smash Bros: Melee; Streets of Rage 2; Pokemon Silver.
I'm probably missing a bunch but those are the ones to spring to mind.
