I think it would stop a lot of soccer mom bitching if it was just required to sign a waver/contract before people are allowed to make M rated purchases.
Do you think people should sign a waver before they buy M games?
I think that they should, at least a piece of paper saying that they are aware that the game may contain nudity, violence, foul language, adult situations, etc.
It would first allow us to rest in peace, as Soccer Moms would have no more to bitch about, and so would politicians. Just by agreeing in a piece of paper.
The contract/waver would say things along the lines of "signing this waver states that you bear all responsibility to this M rated product, and will not molest the companies that have made this game, the content descriptors are" I'm not sure I understand what you mean by this. "

where are they gonna keep all these signed wavers?

No because its pointless games are already rated and controlled enough if some woman wants to go to Walmart and buy Custers Revenge for her 6 year old without checking the ratings that is their problem, plus most of us here grew up playing violent games and yet we seem to be mostly a normal bunch my god imagine that could it be that all the hoopla is the same thing the Rock and roll was a scapegoat for politicians to yell at uneducated people so they will vote for them because they think of the children.
Unaware soccer moms are always going to have something to complain about, waiver or not. Content descriptors are clearly marked on the game box, and it's the buyers responsibility to read them and learn something about this thing they're spending 60 bucks on. As an adult, I shouldn't have to sign a waiver to enjoy adult content, just like I don't sign a waiver when I go to an R-rated movie. We're way too far into the life span of video games, video game news, and video game ratings for anyone to continue using a lack of information as an excuse.
Do you have to sign a waiver to buy an R rated movie??!!! come on, all signing a waiver will do is make people that have no clue believe theres some really really nasty stuff in the game. When obviously thats far from the truth. One silly scene that would be just another killing scene in goodfellas and everyone freaks out like its a big deal. We have a lot farther to go until people mature there brains to games being like movies in terms of content and restrictions. Right now its a huge double standard that is making alot of people look really dumb.
You can't enter a contract under certain conditions, like being under 18, so a 17 year old would no longer be able to buy M games. And that's the least stupid thing about this idea...
eh... what for? The game already has the appropriate rating stamped on the box like a movie, you have to show ID in half of the retailers to buy an M game. If the retailers had knowledgeable people at the store it wouldnt be an issue, but they dont usually, and most people will take any sort of questioning as a direct insult anyway. Theres no reason for some silly piece of useless paper to sign, it wont make any difference, and theres no liability involved since an adult is buying the game in the first place.
No, that's stupid. I hate to use this argument, but it's a slippery slope. I hate it because the slope in question is 90 degrees.
" They would just ignore it like they ignore the big "M" or "18+" rating on it. Parents who give their kids unsuitable games are just bad parents, making them sign something to say they understand the game isn't suitable for kids isn't going to change anything. "Exactly.
Look at how many people bring up lawsuits against cigarette companies for ruining their health when there's a huge warning right on the package that says, "This shit will KILL YOU"
Warnings, wavers, clerks giving them disapproving glares, etc. None of it will get through the skull of a bad parent who refuses to acknowledge their own responsibility in their child's upbringing.
