I can't really remember the shortest, but I can say that I played about a half hour into the second disc of FF IX and fell asleep. Next day, I got rid of the game. Oh wait! I do have one! A few years ago I played FFXII for about 20 mins before I got bored. Never played it again.
F.E.A.R on 360, I played it for about 30 minutes. I already previously completed it on the PC and enjoyed it a lot. So thought I would get it for 360 since I only got a 360 a the time, wanted to compare how it played VS pc. Really hated how it controlled, also achievements where so horrible :(
@bizsumpark182: So you hate final Fantasy too? I was at the GameStop 'Buy 2 Get 1 Free' sale and I saw a copy of Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core on the shelf for $17.99. I had the opportunity to buy it because my other two games were $17.99, for a second, madness had come upon me and I took the copy off the shelf. I then slapped the copy out of my hand and it fell on the floor, I said "Bad hand! Don't be so gay!"
@DECA555: i have no issue with people not liking mgs4. But people like you who are clearly bashing the game without playing it (or not providing any reasons for your disliking of the game) i have an issue with.
Damnation. I lasted about 30 minutes in that game and then quickly took it back to Blockbuster. That's the shortest I've ever played a game for. I even spent 4 hours on Sneak King and enjoyed it more than Damnation.

I'll put it like this. Anyone who honestly believes that mashing one button for minutes on end in a microwave sequence of MGS4...yet talks shit about Dynasty Warriors...has issues.
*ugh* I hate to say that I played through that entire story mode. Let this be a lesson to you, kiddos: if you want to be a game reviewer, you will have to sit through shitty video games at lengths of time which might kill you.
@Vinchenzo: I disagree with you, I enjoyed MGS4 and therefore because you didn't you are clearly a troll. How could you not enjoy moving to the next cut scene?
Oh and to stay on topic, the shortest game I played was supreme commander for the 360. I quit literally after about 20 minutes. Killzone 2 ranks up there also (although i've put in more than 20 minutes), difference is that is highly praised, just wasn't my cup of tea.
If this only includes games I've owned, then GTA 4...played it for a few hours, got bored with all the driving around, and haven't played it since. Still thinking of picking it up again though.
When I was a kid and rented NES games on weekends, I played the NES game Fun House for all of maybe five minutes. Gurk.
More recently, I played Ghost in the Shell: Stand-Alone Complex on the PS2 for about half an hour and then never played it again. I just could not get through the first stage, mainly due to the fact that the controls were too horrid.
I also played Final Fantasy X-2 for about five hours, which was about 105 hours too many. Easily one of the worst games I have ever played in my life. As bad as the other two games I named above were, neither of them gave me the feeling that my soul was on the verge of imploding.
I'm very embarrased to admit I played Flushed Away: The Video Game for 30 minutes, but only played this highly acclaimed GameCube Star Wars game (I forget what it was called, but it wasn't Rogue Squadron) for 15 minutes.
