Merry Gerstmas! 2012 Giveaway of almost 100 games.

Didn't get everything you wanted over the holidays? Missed out on some of the great Steam sales? Just want to get into the Gerstmas spirit? Well, I'm giving away the following list of about $800 in games to this fantastic community to kick off 2012. Gerstmas is about spreading your gaming seed far and wide, so I'll be giving away one game per winner. Please note that this isn't some sort of promotion for anything. I just bought lots of extras over the holidays, with the intention of gifting them afterward and I want to show my appreciation to all of you and to the GB/WM crew, themselves. You are a great bunch of freaks.

To qualify, you must have been a member for at least 60 days as of this post and have either 100 postsor1,000 wiki points. I think these are minimal enough to be very inclusive, but high enough to exclude new accounts created just for this or people who haven't (yet) contributed much to the community.

To Enter, you must post a request in this thread to be included. Note that these games will be gifted via Steam, so you'll need an account there. You only need to enter once, because if you don't win in a drawing, you will automatically be entered for the next drawing. Entries will be accepted until at least 11:00 PM PT, Tuesday the 3rd (an hour before drawings begin), but will be closed at some as of yet undetermined time after that (possibly right after that and certainly before 11:00 PM PT Wednesday night), so that the odds of winning don't get too awful as the list of games starts to get smaller and the number of participants keeps growing. So, put your name in while you can!

Winners Will be Chosen at random, beginning January 4th, by compiling a list of all entrants in this thread and using the random number generator at random.org to count through the list. Once you have won, your name will be removed from the eligible list for the next drawing (in other words, you can only win once). Winners will be announced in this thread.

To Claim Your Reward, you'll need to tell me what game you would like and provide your Steam user name, so I can gift it to you. You'll need to pick a game you don't already own (and it will tell me during the gifting process, if you already own it). Your Steam user name is the name in the URL when you visit your profile and that shows up on your profile. It may be different than the actual account name that you log in with. For example, my user/community name is Branthog and shows up, here (yes, you can friend me on Steam): http://steamcommunity.com/id/branthog/

Note regarding choice of games: The numbers by the titles, below, indicate the available quantity of that game. This will be first-win/first-choice, so while you can let me know in your post what game you prefer, please note that you may have to choose another game from the list at the time you win, if your first preference is already gone. Also, when you win, you'll get at least three or four days to contact me before games are put back on the pile for someone else to win.

Note regarding people that hate my guts: I know there are at least a couple people (yeah, I'm probably low-balling that number) who dislike me and feel always at odds with me in every conversation we bump heads over. Please don't let that leave you out of the fun! Gerstmas is all about the joy of games, petty crap be damned! Put your name up and maybe win something, damn it! :D

UPDATE / REQUEST:

Now that I'm issuing gifts to the lucky winners, I am seeing that I may need you to be on my friends list in order to transfer the game directly through Steam from accoun to account (I prefer this to sending it via email, where it may take a long time for you to get it, apply it, etc - with so many to give, I want to have winners wrapped up as soon as possible after they've made their choice). UPDATE RE: GERSTMAS 2013

Can never absolutely promise anything, but as I've said - I plan to do this in 2013, too. I'd like it to be bigger. I've already added about a dozen copies of games into next year's inventory. I may try to work with others (especially anyone that develops games that would like to have some codes included). My goal is for 2013 to be even bigger. Twice as big. I'd like to give away 200 games next Gerstmas. If anyone knows someone that can contribute toward this (again, devs who want to promote a game with codes would be cool - or even anyone in the position to give me a discount on games I purchase toward this project next year), put them in touch with me.

UPDATE (January 5th - 8:00PM MT): I just wanted to remind everyone that, because choice of game is going in the order of which names were drawn, later winners may have to wait some time before they get to finalize their choice and have their game sent to them. I hope that isn't too frustrating, but I do want to give every person a fair amount of time to claim their win, before moving on. It may take more time, but it seems fair. That said, the rules did state three or four days to claim a price would be given - so if you don't get back to me within a certain amount of time - I will be forced to move on to the next winner. If that happens, you can jump in and claim your gift at any time - but you'll have to take whatever is available at that time. After everyone else has won and claimed theirs, those who still haven't responded will have several days before their places forfeit and we'll draw new winners to replace them.

I added this to the original post, but just wanted to clarify that there are a limited number of each game available (the number next to the title on the list) and winners will be given the choice of what game they want, as they win. In other words, there is a chance the game you really want could be all gone by the time your name is drawn and in that case, you'll still be able to pick from what remains. You guys probably already understood this, but I just didn't want anyone to be let down if they won, but didn't end up with the one they really hoped for.

(I basically just bought a handful of every reasonably priced game every day of the Steam sales until Visa put a halt on my card for "strange activity" and then required me to call them again to reset my card for the next day of Steam sales -- there wasn't a ton of thought put into exactly what I was actually buying - heh).

This community is so awesome, I'm glad I have a gaming pc now to take part in these because they're mostly steam giveaways. I'd like to try out The Witcher,

Yeah, I'm not sure what to expect from it. I just caved and bought a few copies (including one for my brother and myself) when it was on sale for a day. It seemed too weird to pass up. I don't know if they have anything to do with this, but there was an off the beaten path MMO years ago called "Necropolis" (I think) that the visual style of this almost reminds me of.

If I'd had any idea people would have been that amused by the idea of getting EYE, I would have bought a few more copies than I did to give away!

Agreed, sir. I haven't done nearly as much PC gaming in the last three years as I normally do, but it's crazy when Steam has sales and you realize you can buy at least 10-30 pretty good games for the price of one console game. (Not a slag at console gaming - I enjoy it, too). I talk a lot of shit about PC gaming, because I'm usually disapointed and jaded, but whatever love I still have for it is almost exclusively owed to Valve and Steam. :)
