Depends on the game, but I'll say I play single-player more often.

Single player, because it will still be there for you after the multiplayer servers have all been shut down.

Total lack of context.

Some games only have a good singleplayer. Some games only have a good multiplayer. A great multiplayer experience can potentially be better than an amazing singleplayer experience though.

I completely ignore the multiplayer component in games. The only exception was World of Warcraft and I haven't played that in years.

I'll always have a special place in my heart for a great single-player experience. There are a couple major experiences that are exclusive to single-player that are major reasons for me being a gamer today.

Lets just say I've never bought a game 'cause of its multiplayer component. Give me a good single player campaign and I'm a happy gamer!
Also, I think maybe this poll should've read "which do you prefer" rather than "which is better" cause that's a little relative, depending on who's answering.
Anyway, yes, single player all the way! ^^

I can only think of a couple of games that I have bought because I was interested in the multiplayer.  The single experience is usually more memorable and more rewarding.

Singleplayer is my choice, let me expierence a great story instead of raging at teammates who do nothing but wait for the damn helicopters to spawn!!!! (Only thing I do not like about battlefield, to many noobs. no offense to anyone here of course.)

I can't believe it took so long for someone to point this out.

Batman Arkham Asylum is great as a single player experience. However playing TF2 in single player sucks. Same with any fighting game. So uhh... both?

Also I note that the people here who dismiss multiplayer seem to only ackowledge playing online with strangers. You people need to make some actual friends.

@iam3green: Yeah I prefer single too cause I don't have to listen to whiners and other annoyances.Though I don't know if you have hear of the upcoming game BRINK, they have voice chat off by DEFAULT(you only talk to your friends)of course you can change the searching options or match creation options to include open VOIP, but still that is a really cool thing and I wish more Multiplayer games would have that.

Online can be fun, but I play games for the single player aspect, so it's rare for me to get into a match and play on any game. I usually play a lot of games beta's before the games release, but when the actual game comes out, I won't touch the MP just because I like to experience the single player more. Well, there are some games I do try the multiplayer (for one match though), but it's still not a lot.

By the way, I hate sounding cocky, and I don't have a way to prove it, but whenever I do play multiplayer, it seems like a lot of people suck. I always get first or second, and I love that, but it doesn't keep me, so I go back to single player because it's all about immersion for me when it comes to any game. I also love co-op, or working on a team in multiplayer if it works right and everyone isn't just playing for themselves (which is rare), and that's why it's often easy to pick people off and get the most kills.

Yes, yes and yes.  Narrative is what I likes in mah gaymz.  My friends played Modern Warfare 2 for a damn year then bought black ops and are doing the same boring damn shitfest day after day now.  It's crazy, like watching the same episode of "I'm a Bellend" over and over again.  It's ok to have a laugh on now and then, but goddamn you, Susie - get out da house once in a awhile, missy.

But I'm amazed how many people on GB love singleplayer. I thought more would love multiplayer, just see how many efforts developers nowadays put into
multiplayer...

A good Multi-Player game could potentially keep my attention and last me much longer than a good Single Player game. I do however, love them both equally. I seem to get addicted to Team Fortress 2 every once in a while :3

Single-Player.

I rarely play Multi-player games unless it's co-operative like Monster Hunter or Borderlands or something.

I think TF2 has the best mix of both worlds. Since it feels very co-operative while still being rather competitive.

In the majority of cases I buy a game and beat it only once. Be it pokemon, Persona or SC II, story is such a huge factor for me, that I just wouldn't be able to play a 2nd playthrough without it having any relevance (since I already know it all).

The only few exceptions are: Demon's Souls and inFamous, however even during the 2nd playthroughs of said games I felt like my experience lacked something important.

After I finish a game's campaign I tend to play the multiplayer until I get a max rank at it, or until a new interesting game comes out.

Coop is the best thing ever. Seriously, I don't get why so few games use it nowadays. Sitting with your friend on a couch and cracking a tough puzzle or level is incredibly fun.

Single player for me.  I suck, why would I want to impose my "suckitude" on other players?  Let me suck in private where I can replay the same level 30 times in order to finally get past it.

Also, the reason I play games most of the time is because of the narrative.  Multiplayer doesn't have a story usually.  Co-op is changing that, but I refer you to the above in those cases.
