Just wondering.
Why aren't PS3 trophies linked to the site?
They mentioned it on the podcast awhile ago. I wanna say it was a Sony decision, but I'm probably wrong.
Wow a bunch of responses real quick, can't wait to continue using the forum. Just tracking achievements (sorry trophies) on the site sounds like fun.
" With any luck, Sony may some day take a better look at giantbomb and its community and reconsider. We can only hope. "If they look close enough they will probably try to remove everything related to the PS3.
" its sony's fault. they don't share that info or something like that. "But they allow other trophy card sites? That..does not compute.
As a fanboy somewhat by default (my parents got me a PS3 slim this year for christmas when my Xbox died and I already had a PS3) I semi agree but I mean the PS3 for sure has some pluses over the 360.
" @The_Laughing_Man: they allow those. but they don't allow people to actually play with that info. don't ask me. im just the janitor. "I would love to show off my trophies here. Since I haven't updated my 360 online in..well...years.
I don't know, I was gonna ask about that too. That'd be cool. Oh, and off topic. Wii needs achievements/trophies of some sort as well. Some really great games I could play on it kinda push me away since I don't really feel like I'm getting anything for it. I don't really use trophies and achievements to show how much better I am than others with a higher score, but to go through them and make sure I go through a certain game 100 percent. If I like a game, I don't like missing out on things.
The reason there is no trophy integration is down to the fact Sony don't allow their trophy API stuff to be used by outside sources to collect and keep track of an individual's trophy information.
Giant Bomb has proven that the WoW, Steam and Microsoft achievement tracking is not only super popular amongst the community here but also really great if you want a place to consolidate your achievements across various services under one roof. It would be great if Sony decided to open up a little more and allow their trophy API functionality to be made more publicly available so users on GB.com can also include their PS3 trophies to show off to friends and so forth.

I'd be willing to bet that part of the problem was that GB was adding point values to the trophies that allowed for comparisions between xbox and ps3 versions of the same game. I'm sure Sony wouldn't like people trying to make an extremely direct comparison between trophies and achievements
" @The_Laughing_Man said:eh? But everyone knows Trophies are just rip offs of Achievements. Cmon now. I never really understand them anyway. They add, for me, some replay value to a game I really love but it always baffles me when someone touts their Gamerscore. I got kicked out of a L4D2 game once because of it. I joined a game and a guy says "Wait, lemme look at this guy's Gamerscore." He looks at it. "Mmmm it's alright. I'm gonna kick him tho." ....wtf, seriously?" @Bubahula said:I'd be willing to bet that part of the problem was that GB was adding point values to the trophies that allowed for comparisions between xbox and ps3 versions of the same game. One thing good about the PS3 imo. Seems like much less people give a shit about trophies. At least I never hear a single person mention them in MP.
There's still a public feed for Trophies that a couple of sites have tapped into, so I don't know if that's something they could look into or not. But yeah, it is Sony's fault. However, I think the site's points totals for the trophies was wrong, and a lot of other people think that as well.

Now you mention it I never thought of that being a potential reason, and likely I doubt it was a big part of it either, but it seems likely that may be why Sony as a whole doesn't share the information or access to their API so publicly.
" @Mmmslash: Okay, I stand corrected. That's pretty awfully dumb. The achievement tracking tools here are probably the most grand thing accomplished by the site engineers here, and they've done some pretty awesome things (this whole wiki). "If you look at my profile you can actually see the remnants of the system they had in place for a few weeks.
Sony decided they didn't want us having fun without using their own system. :(
Because Sony doesn't like making trophies useful, apparently. They seemed like they were tyring so hard to compete with xbox live, but then after the trophy update, their efforts went kinda stagnant. For all they've done for their platform in 2009, the online support and services surrounding them are still lagging behind.
