Should there be requirements for these GB giveaways?
It seems like everyone who has ever made a GB account comes out when there is free giveaways. It's good to get lots of people coming to the site but if they're just coming for the free shit then what's the point?
What I was thinking was to have some requirements to enter the random drawing. Nothing big but something like 100 wiki points and/or 100 forum posts. That way people who have actually contributed to the site in some small way would be able to win something easier. It would also help prevent people from making multiple GB accounts to enter the contest more than once.
Maybe it's a bad idea but it's just annoying to see a thousand people wanting free stuff and half of them won't be back on GB till the next giveaway. Meanwhile, the people who have thousands of wiki points (which isn't me) don't get anything. I know changing the rules wouldn't mean instantly winning anything but it would at least feel like you had a chance.
What do you think?
" What are you talking about? What free shit? O_o "He's probably talking about the mothership zeta giveaway.
I dunno, when the guys gave away that 360 HDDVD drive, they did put restrictions on who was eligible so I guess it depends on what they feel comfortable with.

And I wish there was some sort of requirment. Not neccaserily having X amount of posts/wiki points but something that takes more effort than a simple post since they may as well just look at the forums and go "eeny meeny miney mo" and choose whoever they land on. Then again asking a question and asking you to email them an answer is equally pointless since its everywhere on the internet. And things that require effort (like write a poem about a game or draw a picture etc.) would take a lot of effort on there part.
None is a perfect strategy.
" What are you talking about? What free shit? O_o "Klonoa, Mothership Zeta, and maybe a few others I missed out on.
I really, really think there should only be one post/application per user, or even, per IP address, per giveaway. As it currently stands, whoever spams the most posts seems to win. This happened with the Klonoa giveaway where a user must have posted a hundred times and won a copy.
Why should there be restrictions?
Having contests open to anyone with an account requires people who read the site to get accounts and post a comment. This might get people (like me who don't ever post or help with the wikis) to more actively participate. I'm sorry that your chances of getting a free $10 DLC addon is lessened, please dry your tears.
" I think the requirement should be 100,000 wiki points.Screw that. Only moderators should get free stuff.
this is crazy, making requirements would only lead to meaningless trash. you have to be coming here enough to even know about the giveaway or else someone is teliing their friends stupidly. I didn't sign up casue I don't have a x360, but I guess I could just to F with people.
I'm not going to

After all, the site is all about databases and spreadsheets. I doubt it'd be too difficult to ween out the repeats when you can slap all that info into a excel doc. Was Klonoa after they started using random.org for contests?
As for requirements: I dunno about that. I mean, I'm here all the damn time, and I haven't done any wiki edits, and rarely contribute to forum discussions. That doesn't mean I don't read posts on the site (both official and user-created), watch the videos, and listen to the podcast. I enjoy video games as much as the next guy, but I'm not crazy with the game-based knowledge. So while 100 points is a pretty small amount, it seems like it might be asking a lot of the casual game player, forum lurker, or eager new member. (Then again, I don't even know what it takes to get 100 points. Kind of talking out of my own ass here. >.> )
What? I thought it was always only applied to US residents only, like all the other giveaways I've encountered.
There shouldn't be any restrictions apart from the number of entries per user. It would cause complications, and it's like saying only people with jobs should be able to enter the lottery.
It's certainly not the best way to deal with giveaways, but it probably is the least time-consuming. It would be nice to see people who put a bunch of effort into the site get rewarded in some small way, but it's no big deal.
Last contest they did with requirements like that I think was the Gears 2 Zune, which you needed to have over 5,000 points to be entered in, but that was forever ago.

I am pretty sad that I won't win some DLC for a game I don't own. I'm also sad because even if I did win I wouldn't be able to download it because my Xbox isn't connected to the internet.
Obviously I don't care much about winning this stuff. I asked this question because I have a feeling some people (who have actually contributed to giant bomb) would love to win but have no shot at it. There's no need to get upset over a simple suggestion. It won't happen anyways.
The Gears 2 Zune thing had requirements because it was valuable. We're talking about DLC for a game. All they care about is getting rid of the code.
