I'm probably going to see it with my girlfriend, but not because I want, but because I'd like to see how big pile of shit this movie is going to be. If I'll be disappointed - awesome.
I hear that once you see it in IMAX 3D and James Cameron has raped your eyesockets with digital catpeople... you have to wait about in your seat until he comes along and physically does the same to everyone in the audience... at all screenings everywhere in the world.
but the story sounds so mediocre... So that guy becomes a blue guy to spy on the other blues, but then he discovers the blues aren't as bad as he was led to believe, and so he joins them and helps fight the humans. Then you will see a lot of big budget cgi and long drawn out action scenes to fill in for lack of story.

You mean, just like how Terminator 2 was about a guy who goes back in time to stop another guy who went back in time from killing a kid that becomes a revolutionary in the future?
ALL of Cameron's movies are stereotypical. He just does stereotypical REALLY FUCKING GOOD!
I'm gonna watch it when the hype dies down a bit- there's only one IMAX that's near by me (the one at the Metreon in SF) & that one is always busy. I'll check it out, but I'm not nearly as excited for it as I was a few months ago.

but Avatar doesn't have Arnold in it, and Terminator 2 wasn't trying to be too serious, yet it stayed badass. Avatar is trying to be serious and epic, but with the cartoon cat people and the way a dumb situation is taken seriously it sounds more like a disney adventure.
Yeah, probably. But I wonder how many people here are saying "no" just because most of the GB crew don't like it and mock it occasionally. It has yet to be released or reviewed, so i'll formulate my own opinion when i watch it.
Anyway, I am going to make an effort to go see it the week after next. People are infatuated with the movie and 3D effects, so if I am going to be able to talk about it in any way, I should go see it. I'm unconvinced, but I am willing to give it a try. My expectations are pretty low as far as the story goes (it's Dances with Wolves in space), but I'm keeping an open mind to how well the film as a whole comes off.
Maybe...well definitely considering I see a shitload of movies. I don't have high expectations though; the reliance on technology over substance seems to worry me.
