the one issue i have with some atheists is some can be incredibly closed-minded about the entire subject of religion. that's why even though i'm a christian, i like to look into other religious practices; all religions actually do contribute a lot in terms of developing moral character in its users. yes, bad things have been done in the name of religion in the past, but at the same time its been the source of a lot of good actions in the world.
Why are so many giantbomb members atheist?
"Giantbomb consists mainly of young people, tech lovers and university educated people. These are basically the least religious demographics you can think of. Also I imagine anyone with some experience with video games can see how easy it is to make something up that is believable, and see religion as simply another idea or concept that is open to critique rather than something dogmatic and sacred, as the vast majority of the mainstream population does. "
I resent that comment, good sir. There are a copious amount of intelligent Christians. There are a copious amount of intelligent people of any religion, or lack of religion.
Now to the OP: Hey, don't diss the FCA, please. Sharing one's faith is not being pushy. Having said that, it can be done in a pushy way, and being pushy about it is not the way I would think God would want us to do so...but do you get where I am coming from? Anywho, I think the FCA is a wonderful program, if that was not already made clear. And God is not limited to people who are only adults for their stories to be shared. Yes, adults are wiser, have had more experience, and know more about life (99.9% of the time, and so forth) but this doesn't mean an 8th grader knows squat about it, or what they went through.
*sigh*...I do not intend to get into some huge debate. If I do or do not I guess will be answered soon. xD
Have a good day, everyone.
I'm Christian. I understand people don't like me to just push religion in their faces, but I would definitely try to convince them to become a Christian. Anyways, I try to ignore it when people say "there is no god." It does somewhat annoy me, but I show respect to their beliefs and ignore them, while I also believe that God is big enough to defend himself.
Point being, I try to be myself here when it comes to religion, but I respect the opinions of others.
i'm a religious guy, but i also believe that if you dont believe in science, you've no right to reap it's rewards. people who dont believe in evolution shouldn't get to use antibiotics or vaccines, and people who think the world was made six thousand years ago shouldn't get to use gasoline or oil.
Because mostly atheists brag about their non-religious philosophy. It seems that nowadays it's cool not to believe. So it looks like they are majority, but I think it's opposite. Believers just don't say about their religion at every opportunity and atheists use every chance to show how 'cool' they are and what they think about religion.
I am an atheist because I have no proof that God exists. The secularization of society has enabled many people to recognize the only real fact regarding religious debate: Most, if not all of us, have abolutely no proof of a God's existance, and as such the only intellectually responsible position is to assume that one does not exist. Is it possible an intelligent 'thing' created us? Absolutely, but I have no proof with which to argue the idea.

"Hey now, I happen to think my non-religious ways are pretty damn cool. I get lots of compliments on the account of my "I'm a godless heathen!" bumper sticker.
To me, God seems like an outdated concept and i'll keep thinking this till there's any actual proof.
My entire family, neighborhood and basically state is mormon. That alone basically ruined religion for me, but after that I really started to think, and that's all you really need to figure it out.

I'm a casual Buddhist. And I'm pretty sure there are more than 500,000 Buddhists in the world. Like A LOT more.

I'm atheist because there's no proof and I'm happy to not be bound by STUPID FUCKING RULES like no sex before marriage. What retard came up with that one?
" @jmrwacko said:I agree with this. I love math and science, and I would rather have cold hard facts and evidence for things. Therefore, I have my doubts when someone asks me to have faith on word or the religious writings alone. Also, I like thinking for myself and having my own thoughts and that also goes against the blind faith needed for religious beliefs. Since most people on Giant Bomb seem to like to think for themselves and all that, that could be a reason for the distrust of religion." @LuffyUzumaki: I'll post what I posted on another thread... I. More young people use the Internet than older people. II. This is a gaming website, so even more of the older demography is filtered out. III. More young people have a liberal college education than older people. IV. Liberal education inherently leads to atheism or agnosticism because of the conflict between Darwinism and core Christian concepts of Man. V. Atheists are anti religious because they want to export their beliefs concerning pure materialism and a history of religious violence. Ta-da! "I'm only a High School graduate. I do like to read, so my understanding of the universe came from my own labor of love. Some of your points are good, but still... religion seeks truth through faith in the words of the gospel. I seek truth through understanding of mathematics and physics. "
" @pornstorestiffi said:His point was that even a casual glance at human history will reveal religion to be nothing more than a sociological institution, an artifact of more primitive times before society had law and order." Look at humans and their history, and you will see there are no gods. "Look at the sky during the daytime, you will see there are no stars. See I can make vague empty statements too. "

no lol :( people can just say they are atheist brcause they r on the internet.
quote problem lol
I don't believe in god, it just never clicked in my head. But honestly atheists generally are not good people, they just replace religion with things like global warming, the welfare state, and communism. I try to surround myself with good people, and 90% of them are very religious. Do I think a god exists? No way. But do I think religion is good? Yes (and I find reading religious stories/mythology very interesting, and valuable for the lessons.). Personally I believe in equal rights for gays, and the right to abortion, but no abortion >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> socialism (Maybe its just because I'm in high school that everyone seems to be a communist, but what the hell is wrong with my generation?)

The fact that I am an Atheist doesn't make me any smarter or dumber than anyone who believes in something other than what I believe in
(and just to set things straight, I belive that cake is great)
" Gaming for us is a religion and GiantBomb is the shit. Does that answer your question? "You sir/madam, have made my day.

I mean yes I get the concept about lying on the internet to make one's self seem smarter, but what religion doesn't look down on denouncing faith for the sake of fitting in?
Such a concept is truly blowing my mind.
I'm a Christian and a LONG time gamer. There are those of us here who are Christian but I try not to push my views on people unless the subject comes up. I've never felt that religion should be pushed on anyone.
" Because the idea that most people here are christian is dumb, its just the number that are christened. Most christian customs are now just customs, not really religious but just something you do. Like Halloween or THanksgiving. "You realize neither of those examples are Christian customs, right? Halloween is Pagan and Thanksgiving is American.
"Because we see the world the way it is. Because we're not gullible enough to believe that the world is ruled by a benevolent mystical being no one has ever seen. Because we realize the world is not fair-it is the way it is. God does not figure into this. God is a figment of human's imaginations so that people can hide themselves from evident but scary truths. "
Because you can't see the world for what it is. You're gullible enough to believe that the world is ruled only by truths that man has discovered. And no, the world is not fair. God does not want nor care for the world to be fair because that would take away the very essence of being human. Deal with it, but don't base it as proof of the lack of a higher being.
And those scary truths? The truth is that hiding your beliefs squarely under the guise of science shows ignorance and a lack of understanding of science and the world itself. The very truth of science is cause and effect; something comes from something else. Everything comes from something before it. You came from your parents, your parents from their parents, the Earth from a rare collision of asteroids which came from fragments of larger asteroids and so on and so on until you get to the very essence of life and matter itself. And yet in order for it to be in existence, it must have come from something, something that is above the law of science itself, otherwise it would not exist. So in order to believe in your own existence you are believing in both science and God himself because science dictates that nothing should be here when in fact we are here. Now, does that mean God is just or interferes in your day to day life or in practically any capacity or that the Bible or Torah or whatever have any significant meaning whatsoever? Absolutely not; those are completely different issues that have nothing to do with the existence of everything. But that does not change the fact that an infinitely long time ago, something came from nothing. It is a fact that is both proven by science and proven to be impossible without the existence of a force that works outside the law of science. Honestly, it's pretty foolish to believe in science and reality and not believe in an omnipotant force/being.

I forgot to mention: the reason non-believers would appear to be overrepresented on Giantbomb is that gamers are generally a younger population with a specialized interest. A demographic with a specialized, non-mainstream, technically oriented interest. That is, nerds are overrepresented. Nerds (I included) tend to think analytically, and thus, do not believe in a God. "
I would argue that more often than not, gamers like to think that they think analytically because it's more reassuring that their opinions can be comprised of unbiased facts and therefore correct. Because if we were to truly look at things analytically, people could not argue about what console's better or what game is better because there would be a universal answer for all these debates, like with God.
I don't know why I am an atheist. Most people are where I live. I just don't see any reason in believing in a divine creator. It might conjure up feelings of faith and reassurance but in the end it won't change my life for better or worse. I'm fine believing that life is a wonderful coincidence that was born out of chaos. And when I die I die. And my body will decompose and I will become soil for my children's children.
Well I'm 28 and although I grew up in a family that aren't religious, these days, I am.
10 - 15 years ago I would have told anyone who started talking about religion that I was an atheist. As I've lived more and experienced more of life I have been in some pretty bad places and had one instance a few years ago that totally changed my perspective in life. I never shout my beliefs from the roof tops, don't go Church very often, but I do live my life slightly differently than I use to because I believe in a higher power.
I am far less likely to talk about a religion now than I was when I was an atheist. I think that's because I'm just a more easy going person now and I think when I was an atheist I would be more likely to comment on the subject of religion, so there are probably more Christians on the boards than people may think. Also I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people change there beliefs as they grow older.
Whilst I might not agree with them now, I respect other peoples beliefs, but when you totally bottom out in life don't be surprised if you get some help from an unexpected source. ;)
