The original Gears of War was one of the Xbox 360's first "must own" titles, but the good folks over at Epic Games weren't content to rest on their laurels. They set out to make a direct sequel that would best its predecessor- and in short, they succeeded. Gears of War 2 is bigger and better than ever before. It takes every piece one step further, and the result is a "larger than life" action game that's a blast from start to finish. The campaign in Gears of War 2 immediately gives off more of a ...
Microsoft’s hype machine was set to eleven in November 2006 when the first iteration of the Gears of War series hit shelves worldwide. Epic rode the wave and created one of the best games of this generation while simultaneously knocking Halo off the Xbox Live most played list for the first time in two years. A sequel was inevitable, but with a twenty-four month turnover and the aforementioned hype machine running at a steady five or six, you’d be forgiven to think Epic were going to rest on thei...
Gears of War 2: The more heterosexual Gear-named franchise.Story : Surprise Surprise, it’s humans versus aliens! Or mutants, or some kind of grotesque monster that happens to speak English and have mastery over human guns. This new game’s plot elements include one squadmate’s missing wife, a city that is supposedly humanity’s last refuge, another enemy leader whom ranks above the enemy you killed in the first game that you mistook for the leader of the group of monsters you thought you rendered ...
When Gears of War 2 was first announced, I was immediately excited. The first Gears was one of my favorite games of all time and the reason why I bought a 360. Now, over 2 years have passed since the first game and it seems both unexpected and unrealistic that Gears of War 2 could meet such high expectations. Yet, when I finally played the game, not only did it meet my expectations but in fact exceeded them. Gears 2 is not only superior to the original game in almost every way but also a incredi...
Think back to the first Gears of War. Awesome graphics, fluid and easy, yet very tactical controls, as well as big dudes with big weapons splattering blood all over the place. Well guess what, it's all back for round 2, and it's all improved. The visuals of Gears 2 are stunning, with extremely detailed environments and characters, and epic battle scenes that really suck you in. The controls are all familiar, and still work, and new gameplay options add more tactical decisions to be made. An...
Of all the post apocalyptic, emotionless paper flat enemy, religious symbolic, bad ass talking, lets kill some baddies but hold on I want to cry about my family, kids, partner, or sexual inadequacy games that I have played Gears of War is officially this best. If you want to play a hell wreaking duck and cover oh my fucking god if I get hit one more time that is curtains for me shooter then Gears is where you should be headed. However, DO NO try to look for a story amongst the gunmetal-grey mish...
4 1/2/5 starsGears Of War 2 will sell well for a reasonthe good-*really awesome graphics improves upon the already groundbreaking graphics of the original*gory finishing kills are a guilty pleasure*story is darker than original*water-effects are Metal Gear Solid 4 good (if not better)*weapons are all-new and more satisfying*Horde mode is revolutionary*co-op is fully playable offline and online, with drop-in and drop-out support- independent difficulty levels are a good idea*stays true to origin...
The way I see it, there are four things that really improve Gears 2 over the original. One of the biggest complaints about the original was that campaighn was short and the gameplay was not varied enough. Although Gears 2 seems short it is many times more enjoyable than the original and offers many varied elements in gameplay. The addition of Horde Mode is genius. Lets face it competitive online with 10 year olds yelling in your ear that you suck and taunt your dead body gets rather boring. Hor...
Gears of War is undoubtedly one of the 360's best games. It's dark, gritty, and violent, with fun gameplay to boot. And that's why it's such a shame the sequel doesn't live up to its legendary predecessor. Gears of War 2 is by no means a bad game. In fact, it's got the same great gameplay as the original. But that's most of the problem. Gears of War 2 fails to be ambitious, recycling all of Gears of War's gameplay mechanics and adding nothing new to the mix. Of course, a lot of sequels recycle o...
This game is what I like to call just pure unadulterated fun. Get Gears of War 2.The visuals are probably the best I've ever seen in any game. They're crisp. They look amazing, but the biggest thing for me is that they're much improved over Gears 1. The sound is excellent, the weapons sound great all the crushes and clashes, and the score is amazing. The score takes the game to a whole new epic level. The story is incredible, and you really get engrossed in it. They through the " emotional ...
After finishing Gears Of War 2, I knew this was going to be an easy review for me to do. I was afraid that Gears 2 was just going to be "more of the same" (which isn't a bad thing), but EPIC really went all out with Gears 2. To put this review simple, they took everything that was great about the first Gears Of War and expanded it into an incredible experience. Even the story this time around is better by leaps and bounds. There's really not much to say here. If you own a 360, GO AND BUY TH...
Gears of War 2 is probably the biggest game that slipped past my radar last year. Even though I loved the first game, I initially passed on Gears 2 because I thought it would be too similar to the first, and I wanted to spend my limited cash on something new. However, I have to say after having played Gears of War 2, I feel like I made a huge mistake by not picking it up in the first place. As soon as the credits rolled after finishing the campaign, I went to Gamefly and clicked on the "keep it"...
Note: this'll be the last one written for a school newspaper, I promise! The review I write from now on will be [even?] better, and aimed at gamers rather than your average high school student.EPIC Studios’ Gears of War 2 (GoW2) is definitely one of the very goriest games I’ve ever played. You have a gun with a chainsaw on it, for one. A chainsaw, man. It’s like EPIC Studios went into the mind of the most disturbed youth of America to design the weapons in this First-Person Shooter (FPS). I’ll g...
Gears of War was one of the first Xbox 360 title to truly blow away the competition. The Unreal Engine 3 was an unmatched beast that nobody could compete with, and in terms of sheer entertainment and production values, Gears of War was a mind numbing and visceral experience. Gears of War 2, arriving two years later had some lofty expectations to live up to, some big shoes to fill. However, in those two years, developers have had the opportunity to truly understand this generation of consoles. Wh...
It has been a few years since Epic stunned the gaming world with one of the most exhilarating shooters gamers had ever seen. Microsoft had banked on Cliffy B and the boys down at Epic to produce a new IP (Intellectual Property) that delivered, and delivered is exactly what they did. Fast forward to November 2008 and Gears of War 2 is finally hitting the shelves, sending fan boys into a frenzy. How does it compare to the first? Is it just Gears 1.5? In short, Gears of War 2 is breathtaking and ...
WARNING: Spoilers, Bad Language!Gears of War re-defined the thrid-person genre by updating the cover mechanic and truly bring HD content to gaming. However, after completing Gears of War 2, I'm quite disappointed that the campaign introduces boring content - which I never saw in Gears 1.The campaign story was okay but I can't help compare it to Halo's story: Humans vs. Locusts (Covenant) vs. Lament (Flood). There are large amounts of more enemies than Gears 1 - just as I hoped. The ending was...
Gears of War 2 didn't wow me as much in 2011 as Gears of War did in 2006. Part of that is just the time difference - I've played a lot of shooters in that period, and most games don't benefit from waiting until a couple years after release to check them out. I do think it's still a slightly less impressive game than the original though. It's a sequel that doesn't do a whole lot new - its cover mechanics are still among the best in the business, but they're not exactly fresh; its mantra of...
A Really gd game but i think the best part about this game is for the multiplayer cuz the campain just isnt tht intresting anymore after 3-4 playthroughs .And is an amazinly Gory peice of art but after a while tht can get boring and can lose its thrill. If i was too rate it would be a 8.5 maybe 9.0 for the multiplayer It improves graphic and story and just the technical bugs from the first game and improved A.I but like most games can get boring fast if u dont have a xbox live account and past ...
Pretty good enough sequel to one of the top selling Xbox 360 exclusive titles. There are some new things they added that are pretty cool and there are some things that put it down but it still is a good sequel overall. The story continues off from the first Gears as you are fighting the locusts. It starts off with B. Carmine coming in and you can either learn to play (train) or just get into the fight. There are some new characters that you will meet in the game and you meet Tai first in the f...
Okay first off this game looks GOOD. And the cover system is incredibly smooth, i was actually very surprised at how well the gunplay cover and action was presented. The story had neat twists and kept me coming back for more. And the gameplay is AWESOME!!!!! Seeing your mulcher rip through enemies and then the sniper blowing off heads, and you cant forget the lancer. And multtiplayer is also very good. One of my favorite is Horde. That really took me by supries. Overrall this game is awesome!...
Gears of War 2 is one of the most hyped games in the history of gaming. The first game was one of the best third-person shooters around and the sequel promised to be even better. Well, Gears 2 lives up to the hype in pretty much every way - it's simply awesome.Gears 2 picks up a few months after the first game finished with you once again taking control of Marcus Fenix as part of Delta Squad. The story is definately better than that of Gears 1, but it still seems to be trying a bit too hard to m...

What I liked: Graphics - God Lord Gears 2 looks fantastic. From the vast vistas, to the crumbling city scapes, this game is probably the best looking game I've ever played. Bots - I never checked out to see if Gears 1 had bots for it's offline multiplayer, but being able to play multiplayer with the bots here is terrific. (I'm not going onto XBLive till it's free) What I didn't like: Vehicles - Just like last time, the wheeled vehicle segment in this game feels cheesy and kinda tacked on. Tho...
I found the first gears game's controls a little to loose and a story that wasn't that compelling. Gears 2 has a very tight story that is enjoyable and keeps the player wanting to press forward to the next checkpoint. The game's checkpoint system is perfect it makes sections of game play challenging, but not impossible even on insane. Gears 2 does not have the longest story but i think that is a good thing in this situation. Gears 2 is bloodier than ever with more high action, bone braking, bloo...
What can i say, well i happen to think this is for me one of the best games on xbox 360 that i have ever played full stop.the campaign is a little short but still really good to play.but i think the real charm and fun of this game is in the multiplayer.I don't think there is a better game for multiplayer on the xbox, yes it is challenging but thank god for that i hate playin things like call of duty were you can rack up kills easy. You get a much better sense of acheviment in this game when you ra...
Gears is a game best played by your hands rather than your head; it’s a lot like masturbation in this regard. The story in Gears of War 2 is pretense for the action in which you imbibe, the narrative equivalent of the set-up to a porn movie. The Pizza-delivery guy arrives at a fraternity house where several nubile co-eds are slathering their skin with tanning oil and dropping their tops. Dom searches for his lost wife, having exhausted every avenue available in the past. The Pizza guy coyly a...
Gears of War 2 is the direct sequel to Gears of War. It follows the footsteps of the previous game and innovates in aspects that really let you feeling that something has been brought to the table and nothing good about the last game was left out. Of course the main focus of the game is the same, start, pass through some chaotic locations, find some enemies, get cover and fight to proceed. The formula is still fresh and still delivers the fun needed. The game still consists of 5 chapters and the...

I recently finished Gears of War 2 after having my Xbox 360 mothballed for almost a year and I must say: Damn what a reintroduction! Reviewing a game of this nature a significant amount of time after it is released is probably not the most fair thing to do, as much of the graphical wow factor is reduced. Regardless, the presentation holds up really well towards the end of 2009 and I was still surprised at the quality of some of the visual effects. The artistic component of Gears of War 2's pres...
Gears of War 2 is a continuation of the smash hit 360 game Gears of War. Unlike the trend these days though of rehashed sequels, Gears of War 2 offers the same intuitive and easy to play cover and shoot controls of the first but it adds in a much larger scope and a vastly improved online mode. The story has also received an overhaul this time around and the graphics are noticeably better. It is clear that Epic really wanted to stay away from the 'Grayness' of the old game. Gears of War 2 is easi...
Marcus and Dom are back, and Gears is bigger and better than before. Gears of War helped define this generation of consoles, and the sequel improves on the original in almost every way. The action is grander, the 3rd person combat is refined, and the environments are varied and beautiful. The addition of the cooperative Horde mode, where you face waves of enemies, and excellent multiplayer maps, make Gears 2 the most complete shooter available. ...
After much delay due to technical difficulties on my end, I present my video review, of Gears of War 2.Gameplay footage by Skorch82....
This game is a game that draws you in from the beginning. The gameplay is about 10 hours long and the ending resolves close to everything so that u aren't left with questions that NEED to be answer, but leaves enough for another game.compared to the first:better graphics better story better blood effects better weapons the only way gears 1 is better is the fact that it was a new series When i rate a game i ask myself the question, will people be talking about this game in a year? And people w...
Gears of War was a landmark title when it first debuted along with the Xbox360. Aside from looking gorgeous it had solid gameplay, unique twists multiplayer modes, and some badass characters. Its clear that the team at Epic aimed to make Gears of War 2 bigger, better, and more badass in every way. In terms of story the game takes place approximately 6 months after the first game, humanity is making its biggest effort to end the war against the Locust from they're last remaining city of Jacinto. ...
Gears of war 2 had a lot to live up to, considering it is the follow up to one of the biggest games released on the 360. When the original GoW came out it made almost every other TPS before it seem outdated. The cover system worked perfectly, the co-op was mad fun, and entire campaign felt like a bad ass roller coaster. While the first two remain true for GoW 2, it doesn't feel special anymore, and the later couldn't be more off. The cover mechanic is still the best out there, but it honestly ...
Gears of War was THE reason to buy an Xbox 360 in 2006 and kept that title until 2007 when games like Call of Duty 4, Bioshock, and Halo 3 released and pushed Gears out of the limelight. Well the boys at Epic weren't gonna take that and announced Gears of War 2 featuring an upgraded Unreal Engine 3, more stunning visuals, a more engaging story, and more color.Gears of War 2 picks up six months after the end of the first where Delta Squad (Marcus Fenix, Dominic Santiago, Damon Baird, and Augustus...
Has all the things that made the original so good, with some sharper graphics and a nice lean campaign. I haven't even gotten stuck into the multi-player component....
Gears of War 2 is a wild blockbuster style romp that delivers stunning visuals, decent sound and fabulous gameplay, but skimps on story and depth. In a way, Gears 2 is like a summer hollywood blockbuster - full of continuous battles, triumphs and losses, but it's not going to win any oscars. If you're willing to check your appetite for realistic shooters (with a passable plot) at the door, Gears is one-of-a-kind.The gameplay in GOW2 is spectacular. The "cover system" unveiled in the original rel...
Gears of War 2 is the follow-up to one of the most popular Xbox 360 games on the market. Indeed, the original Gears of War was a hit, with a multiplayer that was almost as popular as the likes of Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4. Epic has now delivered the second installment in what will undoubtedly become a longlasting franchise, -- even already with movie plans and whatnot -- and for the most part, it delivers.Gears of War 2 can be broken up into three modes. Campaign and competitive multiplayer obvi...
Gears of War was always my personal favourite on the xbox 360 it bought a new level of tactics to a tired genre. When word of a sequel surfaced I was interested but had a reaction of "yep, another gears game that will be cool." A year later the game is finally here and it really is everything needed from a sequel.Gears of War 2 picks up a while after the events of Gears with a intro cut scene filling the gaps. The first thing that struck me about the game is how much bigger the scale of the game...
This Review was written on Nov. 17 2008SPOILER FREE REVIEW I have to say that the story in this game is down right horrendous and borderline stupid. I just get this since of confusion after beating this game story wise. It is almost as if the game was broken up into 2 games. You have gears of war and then you have the Dom show. In all the story just feels kinda forced down your throught with all this drama when all gamers really wanted was an extension of first game. Not the mess that we were gi...
Developers promis a lot of things, but few games live up to those. Rewind to E3 where Cliffy. B promised the world that Gears of War 2 will be bigger, better, and more bad-ass than the 1 game. The time is now to judge it and is it these 3? Yes, yes, and yes. Gears of War 2’s story takes place 6 months after the 1 game. The Locus have started to plunge cities into the ground. The Human race’s Gears team has no choice to go below and rip the Locus a new one and it’s up to Delta Squad and there lea...
Another year, another hit game release. Last year it was Halo 3, this year was the sequel to the 2006 Game Of The Year...Gears of War 2. There are many things to talk about with the game, but let's start with the basics. The game has your simple Single Player Campaign, Multi-Player Campaign, and Online Play. Lets start with the campaign. The Campaign follows Delta Squad. Marcus Fenix, Dominic "Dom" Santiago, Augustus "Cole Train" Cole, and Damon Baird. The main story follows Delta Squad 6 months a...
The original Gears of War was one of those really popular games that I, for some reason or another, just did not like at all. I thought the action was weak and boring with a dry single player to boot. The great graphics where offset by the assy weapon sounds, bad dialogue and that the combat felt sluggish and was overall very low impact. So naturally when I heard about Gears of War 2 I wasn’t exactly hyped out of my mind like all the others in the gaming community. I will admit after seeing the ...
