You know how games can get incredibly dull and boring if in some spot your character gets too powerful and unbalanced, but you did nothing to achieve that? And you only bother to play it because of the awesome setting, great idea, interesting plot or a somehow innovating gameplay? This is the case with THQ's Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, which tries to put some badass heroes and villains to kick some ass all over the known locations of the Marvel Universe. But first things first. The Basics. The plot ...

Marvel Ultimate Alliance is the best Marvel game out there. 3

Marvel has been coming out with good games in the past 20 years but Marvel Ultimate Alliance is by far the best one.The whole story of the game is that Dr. Doom has risen in power and is unstoppable. He has created a group of badguys. (I forgot what the group is called) It is your job to stop them. In the game you can choose over 20 characters. In each mission you can choose a team of four or you can go with three, two or even one character. You got your main characters in there, you have spidey...

Ultimate Alliance has its problems, but it's definitely fun. 1

Important disclosures prior to the review: I strongly advise that any prospective players turn off the SIXAXIS controls via the options menu before beginning the game. The controls will cause problems throughout the campaign due to lack of sensitivity and poor registering of actions. Having the tilt controls on will make the game a great deal more frustrating and difficult.Marvel Ultimate Alliance has a lot of problems. It has so many problems that I had to make a list of them, and I’ll cover th...

    A missed opportunity 0

I received a copy Marvel Ultimate Alliance (MUA) as part of my Xbox 360 Elite and from the outset I have to admit that it is not the type of game that I would typically buy. The game sat on the shelf for a while but due to my growing interest in comics I decided to finally sit down and play through the game.MUA is a brawler/RPG hybrid that allows you to control 4 super-heroes. At any given time the player controls a single character but is able to send basic squad commands to AI controlled chara...

Marvel: Ultimate (Xbox 360) …The Ultimate of Marvel? As far as games go, Marvel have had their fair share of great, mediocre and poor games, going as far back as the commodore 64 in the 80’s. Generally however, as technology has progressed and video games have been growing in both technical and entertaining aspects, Marvel games as a whole have began to flourish along side them. Marvel: Ultimate is that next big step as the industry finally settles into the next generation and offers play...

I wonder if Captain America likes Chinese food..... 0

Marvel: Ultimate alliance puts together lots of Marvel characters from the comics and lets you play as them to take down a mysterious team made up of the Marvel baddies. This is essentially an action game, and as an action game the main focus is wandering around different levels taking out bad guys. And that it does very well, but the the problem is that is all it does. There are no minigames or anything to pass the time, all it is a wandering slug fest. Now that that's aside, i'm going to do thi...

I'm not sure how well it works playing by yourself, but it's definitely a fun party game. Playing with three friends, working together, using your powers to help each other out, and ganging up on helpless enemies can be a blast. I got pretty far in the game on the Xbox, but we ended up never finishing that game, and I didn't see the end until I played it with a mostly different group on the PS3. It was just as fun, and looked better (besides the always horrid in-engine cutscenes), but the added ...

The galaxy is at peace 0

The original Marvel: Ultimate was released in 2006, a simpler time for superheroes. Back then, superheroes weren’t at war with each other over some kind of ambiguous superhero registration act and the comics weren’t trying to reflect reality with a social commentary…or at least they weren’t as obvious. Ultimate took place back when Captain was Steve Rogers and not the three or four people that have since tried to fill his HGH-filled shoes. And with the new Ultimate Alliance 2 game seeking i...

Put on your spandex and swing the night away 0

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance gets all the basics right.  It's a bit unspectacular and leaves something to be desired in terms of replayability, but I certainly can't fault the core gameplay or the fun selection of characters.  It's ultimately a good game that could have been amazing, but falls just short.  GRAPHICS AND SOUND:  Ultimate Alliance doesn't have many tricks in its bag visually or aurally.  What you get is a pretty solid basic look.  The playable characters and villains look good, and th...

    Pleases my inner nerd. 0

I was a fan of the X-Men Legends games, so it was natural that I enjoyed this one. But instead of just X-Men characters this time around, you get the entire Marvel Universe. While at first glance the gameplay seems extremely similar, it would be wrong to dismiss the changes that Raven made. For one, leveling up your characters are more accessible, but that also means the power trees are gone. Sure, a little depth is gone, but it makes the game more fun. Another noticeable change is the new healt...

Unless you've run out of good rpg hack 'n' slashes, don't bother. 0

I'm a big comic book fan and my collection consists of about 900 right now, so when I got this game I was so excited. I thought I was going to make my own team of my favorite super heroes with their own customized skills and costumes. In a lot of ways I got my wish, but the game was dragged down by less than average gameplay and awful graphics that  just took away the the fun. At first you are impressed with the game when you see the opening cinematic, It has amazing action pretty good voice act...

Marvel Ultimate Alliance was a mess from start to finish. 0

I had so many problems with this game.  First there was alot of bugs and glitches.  One instance I was playing as the Thing and Rhino trapped me in a wall, and I couldn't move.  Another instance I was playing as Ghost Rider and I some how was thrown off of a ledge by a glitch.  Another time I was playing as Blade but the Vision thought I was wolverine, and the Blade started talking as Wolverine.  The biggest glitch of all is when I reached Act 5 in the game, I saved it the night before, and went...

Exciting concept but doesn't quite pull it off 0

First and foremost, I didn't finish this game so my review of it is pretty shallow. Then again, I guess that should say something about the gameplay. I say this though because there's certainly elements to this game that I missed and can't be taken into account. This also most likely isn't the fairest review as I was never really into comics, and as much as I keep trying to convince myself otherwise, apparently I'm not that big on RPGs either (or rather just very finicky - I mean I absolutely l...

Marvel Ultimate Alliance is the perfect package game. 0

When i first got my Xbox 360 it came with two game. Forza 2 and Marvel Ultimate Alliance (MUA). I knew Forza 2 was an awesome racing game, but i wasn't into the racing genre. So I went into MUA not expecting much. But to my surprise was a game i truly enjoyed. MUA is a marvel game and it starts you out with super heroes. Later into the game you unlock more marvel super heroes and create a new clan. I am not into marvel or super heroes. But the thing about this game is that you don't have to be ...

Anyone who is a fan of the X-Men Legends series have probably all tried this by now, but here is my take on MUA. Story: 2.5The story I feel is very good. As the game progresses, you will definately feel the sense of urgency and despair as Dr. Doom steps closer and closer to taking over the world. You'll find the main quests and sub-quests to be quite compelling and fun to complete. Once the game is over, you'll still find yourself wanting more and playing through several times.Gameplay: 3.5This ...

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance Review (X360) 0

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance takes the XMen: Legends experience and makes great improvements on it. Ultimate Alliance is a beat 'em up style game with role-playing elements for added depth. The game offers many characters from the Marvel universe, including well known heroes such as Spider-Man and Captain America to some lesser known characters including Moon Knight and Doctor Strange. All of these characters have their own unique costumes to unlock, as well as their own set of powers and moves tha...

When Dr Doom threatens humanity can Marvels favourite superheros 0

Over the years many superhero games hit the market. As they come and go they seem to just be another attempt to advertise there latest movie. With not much ambition actually coming forth in the games; this time it’s different though, there back, with the ultimate alliance. Marvel Ultimate Alliance is a hard hitting superhero RPG. You assemble your team of up to four superheros from a series of Marvel franchises. Then take the action to the extreme. You can switch between your selected four hero...

A great follow-up to the Legends series. 1

The first thing you will notice when you start the game is, wow, this is a lot like X-Men Legends. The reason why you are getting that feeling is because this game is, almost exactly like X-Men Legends, with some exceptions. But make no mistake, this game is much better, more expansive, and altogether fun to play. The game boasts 19 different playable Marvel super heroes, spanning the entire Marvel catalog, everyone from Spider-Man and Iron Man, to Ms. Marvel and Spider Woman. If you aren't fam...
