You would think we should know about every video game coming out this fall already, but Konami only decided today to nail down a release date for the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection: November 8.

The collection bundles together high-definition versions of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, in addition to ports of the MSX2 versions of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake.

The only thing the package is missing is the original Metal Gear Solid, which you can purchase over PlayStation Network. Xbox 360 owners are out of luck for the time being, and Konami appears to be conveniently forgetting the Metal Gear Solid remake that Silicon Knights worked on.

I’m actually looking forward to finally playing Peace Walker, which I’d passed over because I didn’t feel like playing a modern Metal Gear Solid game without a second analog stick.

Patrick, The Twin Snakes was co-produced with Nintendo's help. Are you sure that Konami would be able to release it on a non-Nintendo platform?

Yeah The Twin Snakes is Co-Produced by Nintendo. They own half that game which is why it will never be rereleased in HD on another console. Funny everyone bemoans the lack of it in the collection but nobody paid enough attention back in the day as to why it was a GameCube exclusive. I

Ok awesome, but is thie original MGS on PSN going to be a remade HD version or just the original?

I pre-ordered my LE game yesterday. Pretty pumped to play through these games for the first time in years.

Luckily, the PS3 is region free, so just import.

Loved Peace Walker, glad more people are going to get a chance to play it.

So how did the old Metal Gear Solid 2 X-Box Edition play? I'm betting the controls from it are being used for this collection (minus the change on the Black/White buttons).

Honestly don't care about the MGS re-release/remake whatever we call these. What I DO want to hear about is the Zone of the Enders remakes. ANy release schedule on those?

Glad it's coming out. Peacewalker deserved better than the PSP

Looking forward to this. I personally love these HD remakes, the originals are hard to go back to on an HDTV. Wish we were getting the other PSP games, though.

I think I'll pick these up. The lack of an MGS 1 update is a bummer (the one on PSN is just a straight port of the PS1 game, I believe) but Twin Snakes being exclusive to the GCN means that I'm not surprised it's not on here.

I actually completely forgot there was a 360 version. I'd actually prefer to use the 360's controller, and I don't mind waiting for the game, since there's so much else coming out right now anyway.. but yeah, importing is easy enough if you really want it now (and have a PS3).

That Silicon Knights remake was actually pretty bad, I thought. They just inserted bullet time into every cutscene, re-recorded already great dialogue, and somehow couldn't make the game look as nice as MGS2 on the PS2, even though the GameCube was much more powerful. The controls were awful too. I prefer the PS-X original.

I'm a little more bummed at the lack of Portable Ops. I bought that on the PSN store when I had a PSP a while ago, but I don't have one anymore so I haven't played it much.

I can't remember, but are the face buttons on an Xbox 350 Controller analog? If I recall, MGS3 required a lot of analog control regarding the face buttons, and I am unsure how an Xbox 360 controller can handle that if it's not capable.

This is a cool package if only to explore Peace Walker's multiplayer options. I missed out on that because no one I know owns a PSP, but those Outer Heaven mechanics were extremely addicting. And MGS is a fantastic series, even when it gets weird. Experience it again for the first time remixed in a different package!

I kind of just want that version of the original Metal Gear.

Personally, I could care less if they never re-release Twin Snakes. The cinematics were a bit too "Matrix" for my tastes, and implementing MGS2 mechanics into the original game was damn near cheating.

What IS cool, however, is that the version of MGS3 featured in the HD collection is Subsistence, which included ports of the MSX versions of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. So, technically, you're getting FIVE games.

No I'm with him on this one. I've played so much Metal Gear already that despite loving the series I'm kind of done. MGS4 wrapped things up for me quite well. On the other hand I LOVED Zone of the Enders 2 - my FIRST Playstation 2 game and one that I have super fond memories of to this very day. Dipping Ken into lava so she'd only be wearing underwear in the cutscenes following that level..ah...fond memories...zero shift..

Can't wait to play it in Hi-def ULTRA quality 16:9

You're totally right. I had planned to get this on 360, but I hadn't even thought of that. Like IIRC, you would press square to ready the gun and release to shoot, but if you slowly released it then Snake would lower the gun without shooting. I wonder what they'll do with this.

Those Chip and Ironicus videos got me to try MGS4 and now I'm hooked HARD. I want to play them all. The Nov.8 date is just fine with me!

I couldn't be happier to hear that they're still set for the Nov 8 release date. MGS HD collection IS my big fall release. I've been wanting this so bad, because I just love the games, and am so looking forward to playing Peace Walker with decent controls. MGS2 and 3 are also easily 2 of my favorite games.

@PollySMPS: As far as I know, Subsistence is the version used in all copies of MGSHD Collection. As it should be, in my opinion.

Playing MGS2 (and 3, IIRC) without pressure-sentive buttons is gonna be weird.

In regard to the issue with the face buttons. I just got done with replays of both 2 and 3 on the PS3. I thought the buttons might be an issue but, for the most part they weren't. For weapons like the AK and Patriot I was able to lightly press square to aim and push harder to fire. This wasn't an issue at all for 3, but seemed to have some accidental firings on 2.

Also someone was wondering about price. I believe Amazon has it for 50 bucks (US).

Since, I own both 2 and 3 I'm going to pass for now. Nice as it would be to play in HD and try Peace Walker, I can't justify 50 bucks for it. Certainly when we see a price drop though.

The dialogue had to be rerecorded. The sound files for the original recording were too low-quality to be usable in the remake. And graphically, Twin Snakes was not any worse than MGS2. As for the complaints about the controls and cinematics, that's just subjective.

would of been nice if they could of added twin snakes in, if that was ever a viable option, Hd collections dont tickle my fancy much but i never did play Mg Mg:solid snake or peace walker so i actually have a reason to buy it.

@patrickklepek yeah you probably should mention that with this announcement it was announced that it won't be released in europe until February 3rd next year.
