E3 2012 - Microsoft Press Conference Discussion

Trey and Matt was easily the highlight. South Park, Tomb Raider, and Halo 4 all looked good.
The South Park stuff was the only part that interested me. Everything else seemed lackluster and predictable.
ok.it's over. my final count is six rolling rock and one and a half sparks...so yay? if i had been playing last year id be dead instead of pretty drunk.
Call of Duty Black Ops 2 has escort missions. Woo-hoo, escort missions.
Well, I liked what I saw of Halo 4, Tomb Raider, Splinter Cell, and the South Park game. Everything else was rather "meh". At least the boring parts weren't too long.
Next up EA.
Compared to last year, I thought this was pretty good. With the exception of Wreckateer, there was no bullshit casual filler and (with the exception of Nike and the content partners announcements) was generally focused on core games. A solid B.
The gametrailers stream is pretty sad right now. Desperately trying to keep the complaining of the panel to a minimum.
Trey Parker and Matt Stone making fun of the stupidity in the conference was the only enjoyable part of that whole thing.
Edit: Oh, and LOCOCYCLE. Only because it's a fucking hilarious name. I can't wait to hear what Jeff thinks of LOCOCYCLE.
Stoked for Halo 4 and the South Park game. Didn't care for the Blops 2 demo; I was pretty bored throughout. Oh yeah, almost forgot Loco Cycle. F yeah Twisted Pixel.
A huge disapointment... I understand the focus on interactive stuff etc but the quality of the games was terrible. Lots of well worn franchises, most of them into their 4th or 5th iteration, and a few new IPs given short shrift and not looking very interesting.
Lots of first person shooters as well. For an industry which is supposed to driven on innovation I saw nothing new apart from tinkering around the edges. Really lazy and shallow.

And holy shit, the GB chat sucks. So many "funny guys".
Yup. It wasn't a great show by any means but the amount of bitching and snark in the chat was annoying as hell. "Hey I'm gonna shit on everything I see cause that's awesome right you guys? Right?"
Halo, Tomb Raider and Splinter Cell all looked great. Pretty interested in the XBLA stuff, they didn't actually show much but I'm curious what those games are about. And South Park is gonna be awesome, stoked for that game.
All the Kinect and Sports stuff looked great for what it is but I dunno if some of that needed to be in the show. And Usher? What?
God that live stream chat was god awful.
Also, fuck the haters. Tomb Raider, Halo, Splinter Cell, Forza, and South Park were awesome.

Not if you don't like Usher.
Well at least MS set the excitement bar low. It can only be up for Sony and Nintendo now.
Or can it?
The south park bit was rather funny when they came out and made fun of everything Microsoft had done up to that point. Was nice to see some gameplay for Tomb Riader, but the 360 exclusive shit really made me dislike that game at the end of it. The unintended usher pun made me chuckle. Otherwise rather boring and uninteresting video. Looks like they are just doing more of the same shit that I have no interest in.
Oh well.
Yeah, it was pretty awful. The only good part was Trey and Matt giving the integration stuff some shit.
I think the biggest bummer has to be Splinter Cell. Man, anyone else remember how fucking good Chaos Theory was? It's so incredibly sad that they could go from that, to this weird ass automated third person shooter thing they have now.
I didn't mind last year with all of the kinect games, at least it was semi-interesting to watch most of the time. But they barely showed anything. They showed a couple games, a couple not games, and spent a lot of time talking about things like the history of Nike. And fucking sports. Casual games are fine, but E3 should focus on games of SOME KIND.
That said, Halo 4 and Call of Duty look awesome. Tomb Raider was hugely disappointing and didn't seem to understand how anything works in reality (guns do not have massive clips that let you shoot for minutes at a time, nor do they rip apart stone walls, or bust barrels in half) and was WAY too shooter-y.
Really weird that Dawnguard wasn't shown, given how big that should be and how little else they had to show. Might have helped with the filler being so pervasive.
Jupp, I also liked the Tomb Raider demo(despite it having no Tombs or Raiding), but besides that it was pretty boring and at times mind numbing.Trey Parker and Matt Stone making fun of the stupidity in the conference was the only enjoyable part of that whole thing.
In the chat's defense, there's not really a whole lot you can do when you have hundreds of people talking in a short instant chat window.@PeasantAbuse said:

when one of the common 'highlights' was a 30 second voiceover accompanying a logo for an arcade game with nothing else, you know there was a fuck up somewhere
So basically, a bunch of shooters... tomb raider reborn ... as a shooter... and South Park.
The glass thing looks kind of OK... but I am not going to leave my xbox on when I watch TV. Any games that would use it would just be thrown together since it will be better in the next gen XBOX anyway.
Yeah, pretty embarrassing.@PeasantAbuse said:

That was pretty poor conference on Microsoft's part, but compared to the Giant Bomb chat the conference was an A+.
That was absolutely terrible. Seeing the South Park guys fooling around for half a minute was the only enteraining part. I didn't see Halo 4, but every other videogame showcased was bland at best.
Geez, and I thought last year was bad. I guess there truly is no rock bottom until we reach the point where there are literally no more videogames shown and only "interactive experiences".
Tomb Raider seemed tight, new Splinter Cell could be awesome, South Park has positional I think, never been a Halo guy but looked like a solid shooter, and Gears looked like Gears. Usher and the other stuff was laughable. I guess making your Xbox work with other stuff could be ok but I'll be skipping on that.
Overall very sub-par. The new games they announced (all 3! woo!) they almost completely ignored them! Just like "Oh yea we have other games... sorta.."
Pretty poor conference in terms of video game coverage, they didn't do a great job selling what games are coming out for Xbox 360. Even Halo 4 didn't get that much screen time and it's probably the biggest title coming to the console soon.
All the Kinect and Smartglass orientated coverage was sort of cool, but again that took up a huge chunk of the conference overall which was a bit disappointing. Seems Microsoft is more interested right now in promoting different functionality for the console than what sort of video games they have coming out for it.
The performance from Usher was somewhat cringe worthy. I couldn't tell was he intended to sing and dance or just to perform the dance routine, seeing him throw in random lyrics to go along with the background track was really odd. I guess it reflects more negatively on him as a performer than Microsoft itself.
Overall it seemed like Microsoft were talking about being partnered up with so many game studios but they didn't show that many games. Disappointing.

Depends how much Sony focus on Move and whatever similar tech they have to rip off the Wii U (you know they will).
In Microsoft's defence, the 360 is obviously ending and they're focusing all their efforts on a new system. I expect Sony to heavily focus on the Vita and have a similar lack of anything exciting for the PS3.
