Wait, HD Wind Waker? Reason #2 for getting a Wii U. None of my reasons entail new IPs, and I don't give a shit.
That's my reason #1... oh wait, no... ZombieU... and yet, it's still nothing a good emulator couldn't solve, but damned if I'm not suddenly intrigued by the notion of an official remastering of my favorite Zelda game.

So I bought a bunch of games for the Virtual Console on the Wii. All of this news is making me consider getting a Wii U now.
Does anyone know if I'll be able to transfer my Wii VC games to the Wii U?
@Alex didn't properly elaborate on it...
So... you can transfer your Wii VC games to WiiU and play them in the system's 'Wii Mode'. BUT, what Nintendo's promoting here, is that if you pay an extra $1 or $1.50, you can play these with additional features - namely save states, the ability to play exclusively on the GamePad, and Miiverse functionality.
I am mildy stunned that an internet wet dream, Wind Waker HD, is actually happening. Nintendo couldn't possibly be actually paying attention to popular internet opinion now could they?
Now the true nerd in me kind of wishes this wasn't just a port of the GameCube game but a greatly expanded version of the game that included the other half of the dungeons they cut but that is probably asking too much. Its still going to be too easy, only contain 4 dungeons and have the Triforce fetch quest padding near the end but at least it will be pretty.

Where is my FUCKING 3DS news?????They clearly stated this was a Wii U showing, they just had some 3DS news with the new Pokemon game announcement.
I realize that. I was just pushing some 3DS bias into the mix. One Pokemon game announcement is not real news, in my opinion anyways.
Okay then, Luigi's Mansion 2 got a release date, Fire Emblem is coming out in like a week or two, Castlevania is out beginning of March, Project X Zone is getting localized (somehow), Etrian Odyssey 4 is coming out soon, there's a Dragon Quest 7 remake, and we'll hear more about Animal Crossing probably at E3.

Not gonna lie, I’m new to Nintendo’s post gamecube systems, just bought a 3DS.
Which Virtual Console… environment is that 30 cent sale on for? The…Wii U one that isn’t out til spring, the Wii (which I don’t have), or my 3DS, in which I cannot find Balloon fight on the eShop.
I might have answered my own question, I’m just confused is all. (Haven't watched the video yet, in class, apologies if it's clear in there, I saw something of the sale on another site)
30 cents for the WII U virtual console
But it's like 30 day trials I think? I'm not totally sure.
I'm very interested in seeing what that cross over game will look like and what gameplay style they are going with. A fire emblem style game with Shin monsters could be really neat. I hope it's not some kind of Persona 4 Arena style fighting game with characters. I'm also happy to see them making a new Yarn game. I love that art style and hope more games get a yarn treatment.
If Windwaker HD looks like the screenshots, a wii u might find a place in my living room. Might. But hey, it's better than me having no plans whatsoever to get one.

I played through Wind Waker once. That was plenty enough for me.
I've played through it at least five times and it still isn't enough. Bring on the HD port!!
(Though, I hope they tune down that harsh lighting a bit. It kind of ruins the cartoon aesthetic.)
Way to go Nintendo, these announcements have made more people in the comments give a shit about your products then I have seen on any other story on the site.
Still wish you had made something that'll compete with the new hardware being released by the other guys but... I still love you. I know my love is blind, and this has become something of an abusive relationship, but I can't make myself not care about you guys. Dammit.

I hope Nintendo goes out of business soon, all they can do is recycle old shit again and again. Draws in all the saps.
Nintendo does not rehash as much as people seem to think, and the games they actually do rehash are still worth playing. I would complain if the games were bad but they usually aren't.

It's incredibly unclear, but I'm hearing that the early launch is the trial. A different game each day for 30 days, buy it for 30 cents and you can keep it. If you don't buy it now during the trial you have to wait until the official Virtual Console launch and buy it at full price.
But again, it's really unclear. It's hard to tell which scenario is true.
Yoshi's Story... Yoshi's Island... fuck Yoshi. That was not Super Mario World 2, no fucking way. That fool was only there to keep me from getting killed in Super Mario World. Yeah, you see this? That is me not giving a rat's ass about your so calld, story, Yoshi. And by the way, your Blue and Yellow brothers were more useful than you.

@MikkaQA remake and a rehash that's the best they got? I'm not surprised anymore, just disappointed. Though another RPG from Monolith Soft is exciting, but I bet that won't reach our shores for a while.Did you not watch the full presentation?
No, there's kinda no point. Once you see Iwata hold a banana, you can't go anywhere but down.

You call the other stuff a remake and a rehash, but a Monolith Soft game is somehow exciting?
I hope that's not the final design for Yoshi. Was good in Kirby, but again? Please no
Xenoblade U looks cool I guess, if very similar to Xenoblade Wii. Wind Waker HD is okay. More interested in Smash Bros and the Platinum Games. Decent Nintendo Direct in all.

Well sure, they make an RPG every few years as opposed to Nintendo proper who releases multiple indistinguishable Mario games a year.
Too late, Nintendo. I dug my old, untouched copy of Wind Waker out a couple of weeks ago and am over halfway through it.
Hmm. I guess Nintendo Direct isn't the place for it, but I really want to see some standard third-party support for the Wii U before I consider buying it. Don't need to end up with another Wii situation, where I was totally comfortable buying only around ten games over the console's lifespan.
While I'm very excited for Wind Waker as I already said, I really hope the new Mario isn't in space again. Call me crazy, but I didn't like the Galaxy games all that much (at least the first one, didn't play 2) because going from small planet to small planet wasn't all that fun to me. I prefer the bigger, more open/natural environments of Super Mario 64. I'd like to see that done on a grander scale.

Galaxy 2 was way better.
I feel like a lot of people have the fanciful idea of Wind Waker in their head, due to the art style, but if they actually went back and played it, they would find themselves bored to tears. Soon after I beat that game, I tried to replay it and I just couldn't muster the enthusiasm to get very far at all. Those handful of true dungeons are long and laborious, the sailing is tedious padding, and I hated ALL of the side activities. The drive to see the ending and the fact that it was a primary Zelda game are the only things that propelled me through that first playthrough. I can see a lot of people picking up the remake and not even getting off the first island, unless they make some changes.
I'm normally against remakes, but people have been wanting Wind Waker HD for a while so sure, go ahead with that Nintendo. I'm more excited for that Monolith Soft game that's probably Xenoblade 2. And of course, Yarnshi.
But Shin-Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem? That's some crazy outside of the box thinking.
You forgot to mention that if you already own the NES and SNES games that they're offering you can rebuy them for $1 each and they'll be playable from the gamepad screen. Also they're running a promotion for the 30th Anniversary of the NES and one VC game a month will be 30 cents. One of which will be Super Metroid.
Just watched this Nintendo Direct and I have to say I'm a little bit excited about just about all these games, I bought a Wii U at launch and I really enjoyed NSMBU and Nintendo Land but nothing has really piked my interest since, I never got to play Wind Waker on Gamecube and because its so hard to find these days for a reasonable price I'm glad they are doing a HD version (it looks fantastic). A new 3D Mario is always significant news so I can't wait for that, Yoshi's Yarn look neat, Having never played Fire Emblem or SMT but heard good things about both I am definitely going to take a look at that, I haven't played a JRPG in years but X looks fucking great. The games by Platinum look also look like fun, a lot to look forward to on this system.
Wow I'm actually excited about the Wii U, even that Wind Waker HD remake is cool as I loved Wind Waker. Nintendo are now making noise to get my attention, keep'em coming.
