Developed by original Pac-Man creator Toru Iwatani, Pac-Man Championship Edition recreates the experience of the original but offers faster, time-limited gameplay with improved graphics and sound.
This was developed exclusively for Xbox Live Arcade by Namco Bandai and Pac-Man creator Toru Iwatani. The game includes improved, high-definition graphics, new sound effects, and features the first new Pac-Man mazes to be created in almost 30 years. While the newer game essentially plays like the original, its levels are wider and are composed of two halves that incorporate new maze structures as you play. Matches are governed by a time limit, after which the game ends. Championship Edition's scoring system is fully integrated into Xbox Live leaderboards.
The game includes six levels (or modes) in the game (Championship, Challenge, Challenge 2, and Extra 1-3), each with their own rules, time limits and mazes. Pac-Man Championship Edition was on the receiving end of overly positive reviews, but was criticized for a lack of multiplayer content, as well as reuse of too many of the original game's mazes.
Pac-Man Championship Edition was the last game developed by Iwatani before his retirement.
