Every game I played in 2020

For whatever reason I decided this year I want to keep a list of EVERY game I play for even a small amount of time. I am mostly interested in my played to finished ratio. I don't know if I will keep this list around for the whole year or not honestly. I will see if it becomes something I forget to update or not.

I created this list at the end of January so I might have missed some games I played before making the list, but I will try my best to find them all.

I will try and give thoughts on all the games and what platform I played them on. I will try and go back and update those thoughts if I play more later.

Also, yes it seems like I play a TON of games, but in reality a lot of these I play for maybe 10-20 minutes and move on. Some I will go back to and some I will just move on from. I really try to sample as many games as I can to at least give them a try. This tends to be how I end up finding some games I really enjoy.

Games I Played That Are Not On Giant Bomb

There are some games that for one reason or another are not on Giant Bomb. They either just need to still be created, which I will work on or they are homebrew or whatever.

  • Microsoft - The Best of Entertainment Pack (GBC)
  • Pringles Games (Genesis)
  • Cookie Clicker (NES)
  • Pocket Meat (GBA)
  • Somari

66 games and it's 22 days into the year? You're a madman.

@marino: Yeah, I was surprised by how many I played when I sat down and looked at it. To be fair however, a fair number of these games I played for about 20 minutes, or some even less. Thanks to games getting very cheap on sale, or Game Pass I have so many games to play that I play a lot of them but finish less and less of them.

Holy moly! That's a lot of games! I take it a lot of these you bounce off of right away? Or you just want to taste them a bit (like you own personal quick looks?) How much playtime do you generally put into these before switching and what prompts you to switch what you are playing?

Not judging (imo there's no wrong way to game), just curious because your play style very different than mine in an intriguing way.

for comparison sake I've touched ~13 game this year so far that I can recall

PUBG

multiplayer game of the moment

New Super Mario Bros Ustarted and finished
Luigi Ustarted and finished
Phoenix Wright vs Professor LaytonStarted, in progress 25% or so
Utawarerumono: Mask of DeceptionStarted, in progress 25% or so
Thronebreakerstarted, may abandon
Tetris EffectStarted, retired most likely. Didn't like it
Mindustryplayed some multiplayer
Wreckfestplayed at a Lan Party
Splitgate: Arena Warfareplayed at a Lan Party
CounterStrike: Sourceplayed at a Lan Party
Rainbow 6: Siegeplayed at a Lan Party
Rocket Leagueplayed at a Lan Party

That's actually really high for me due to the LAN party. A normal high month for me is roughly 1-2 multiplayer games per month and about 4-5 single player games. Of the above probably only 6-7 of them have been for more than an hour.

How was Sword Art? I've always wondered about that franchise

oh and re: Street Fighter V- I feel like that's a game that wasn't criticized harshly enough at launch, but now doesn't get nearly enough credit for much better thae game has gotten. Really even by Season 2 the game had gotten very good. So I'm with ya on that

@slag: Quite a lot of these games are like 10-20 minutes. I like playing such a wide range of games that I like to at least try a bunch of games. Also with things like the Humble Bundle monthly thing they do and Game Pass that allow me to have such a huge choice of games at such a low barrier to entry I like to try out a bunch of things to see what I like.

I do try and go back to the games I really enjoy and play more of them though. Work situation changed in the past year that left me with a lot less time to play games, so that doesn't help.

Also regarding Sword Art, it seems to be alright. It feels like a pretty typical 3rd person action anime game to be honest. I haven't really gotten much further than the tutorial (which is quite long) but I do plan on going back in to check it out some more.

@bobafettjm: makes a lot of sense. So almost like your own person game tasting event! I got some buddies who get together once a month and basically do that as a group. The "host" brings 6-10 games and as a group they play each one for 30minutes to an hour, taking turns on who plays.

I'm sure you've played enough stuff by this point in your gaming career that you can get a pretty good idea of what a game's about just from a single play session anyway.

Hope the work situation change for you is something you consider to be a positive for your life though!

Hunh I thought Sword Art was a turn based JRPG franchise. Shows you what I know about the series

@slag: The work change was certainly positive as it meant a promotion with more hours, which I wanted. Just not as much time to play games anymore.

I do end up going back to a large number of games at a much later date. I even went back to Dungeons of Dredmor at the end of last year after having not played it since like 2012.

@bobafettjm:
Yeah hard to feel bad about that. Sounds to me like you priorities in proper order. Congrats on the promotion!

I really envy your ability to revisit games! That's something I struggle to make myself do, but I always feels really glad when I have

Funny you mention Dungeons of Dredmor. That was the second quick look I ever watched at GB and the first game I bought because of a Quicklook. I never came close to finishing that game, it's pretty hard! But I did enjoy the couple hours I spent messing around with it

@slag: I kind of dove in to a hole of Rogue-likes after listening to a couple of Retronauts episodes about them and I remembered Dungeons of Dredmor so I wanted to go back and check it out again. It is also the reason for me playing Shiren the Wanderer: The Tower of Fortune and the Dice of Fate.

I don't revisit games as often as I would like to really, especially games from NES-N64 era. There are certain games though that I will play at least some of every year or so.

@bobafettjm: hey man, was just checking into look at your list

holy moly you've touched a lot of stuff this year!

How does the retroachievements thing work? Seems like you are getting to play a lot of really obscure old stuff that way

also how is Bless Unchained? I liked what I played at PAX but it's not on a platform I have access to

@slag: If you go to retroachievements.org and sign up for an account you have a couple of options on how to get achievements. You can either download Retroarch and set up achievements in the menu there or download individual emulators from their site. I actually just modded my Vita and got Retroarch on there so now I can play some stuff on there.

I tried Bless Unleashed for a little while, but haven't dove too far in yet. It seemed like something I could probably get in to if I wasn't playing another long game right now (Yakuza 0).

@slag: I am loving Yakuza 0. I have been taking my time just doing stuff as it comes along and taking it all in. I just hit 20 hours in and am only just starting chapter 5.
