@MoeB:
Yes it was, I reiterate: WAS, but that was a long time ago. Much, much better games have been released since though.

Half-life 2 about 4 times, including the same amount for it's episodes. (I just got this for X360 for the achievements and now it's almost five playthroughs.)
I've completed MGS1+2+3 about five times each.
Oblivion was hard to go back to but I had a yearning, so now it's the third time I've completed it. Same for Fallout 3 (I like this game more than oblivion though, many people may knock me for that comment, but I don't care.)
Star wars: KOTOR+KOTOR 2. 4 times.
Crysis+Crysis Warhead. 3 times.
Neverwinter nights 2. 2 times. that game is just darn fun.
GTA IV+all other 3rd-person GTA's about 2-3 times.
Mass effect about 2 times. (I need to do this another 2 times to get ALL of the achievements available.)

And the list goes on and on... etc, etc.
Needless to say I love my games. ;-)

I don't have any awkard purchases that spring to mind.
But I think my most awkward games return experience was when I had an extra £30 (about $64 U.S. currency.) to spare.
I asked the gamestation clerk (The staff at gamestation are avid gamer's themselve's) what he thought would be a good long game that was worth my £30, and he went into great detail about fable.
Needless to say, going on his enthusiasn and description of the game, I bought it.

I played it for 1 hour and within two days of playing it I took it back thinking he'd been joking with me about the quality and gameplay, I thought it was utter crap. (Not my kind game style at the time, I nowadays ironically love fable 2 though.)

He preceded to spend half-an-hour trying convince me of the mistake I'd be making, he promised me he would never serve or talk to me agian if I got the refund for fable.
The whole time a queue had been forming behind me while he was talking about this mystical game. I thought he'd been playing a different game and confused it with fable. (now I look back it's possible he was Peter Molineux's secret bastard child, judging on how much he was talking up the fantastic-ness of this game, that I thought was complete and utter garbage.)

ANYWAY, I put my finger over my lips and shushed him. Then I quietly put the game on the counter. Held out my reciept in his direction, and waited.
He disdainfully took it and gave me my money back.
I got my money though I was highly embarassed, I had to smile in apology as I walked past all the people who looked at me with grimaces because they'd had to wait for so long.

Now that is awkward.

Something occur's to me and probably many other's... After examining the picture for a few seconds it becomes apparent that snake is young(er) in this teaser. In MGS4 his rapid aging made him look and behave increasingly old. which definitely confirms this game is going to go back into MGS's past some.

I'm slightly frustrated with konami pro' for not releasing MGS4 on the X360 yet (YET being the word in question.) but I am happy they are releasing a new game, even if I never get a taste of it, something to raise the bar for their next release ever higher(they allways deliver) hopefully I will have the PS3 and/or PS4 by then. ;-)

@dogoo:
Dude, you have to take into consideration, the times these games were released.

At the times of release of 2 of these games, there quality level was enough to impress everyone blind.
I mean there wasn't much else out, that was any good that is, when Halo 1+3 (excluding halo 2, since it came out later on in the original XBOX's life-span.) came since they were released near enough when the console's were first released.

Now however, looking back, I have to admit, they were big bangs and flashy special effects, but not a whole lot else.
I still really like the multi-player though. What can I say, I met a few good friend's from playing halo 3's multi-player, and now I don't mind just fucking about on other game's with them too.

In society today the only people that really care to judge other's these day's, are the people who are ultimately two-faced and very transparent, in which case the public will tend to either idolise that person (American Idol's: Simon cowl.) OR really Hate them  (The leader of the suffering african nation: Mugabe.)

I look at it like this: "I'm a pretty normal guy with some normal interest's and some nerdy interest's mixed in too. I'm completely comfortable with these nerdy interest's and if someone/you aren't, then that's your problem because I'm not changing unless I want too!"
Besides why would I change something about myself that isn't harming either me OR anyone else, to satisfy some else's view of me. Whether their view has anything to do with my reputation or my appearance, I could give a shit.

I'm definitely going against the grain here, but I thought the last game, Splinter Cell: Double Agent, was fantastic(btw ppl are welcome to dispute this point, but it won't change my opinion of this game.)
The only problem I had with this game was that for some reason on the PC version near the end where you have to difuse a bomb, a glitch kicks in that freeze's the game COMPLETELY, EVERY SINGLE FLIPPING TIME!!!!!!
This would happen even if I re-loaded the game back up OR even uninstalled it and then re-installed it. AAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh well! I took the PC version back to the store with the reciept and got the xbox 360 version with the money I got back for it plus £10. Which, I think, is really cool because I now have 1000 extra gamerscore points on my account that not many other people will even try to get, MWUAHAHAHAHAAAAAA. lol.

All we need now is the likely, but confusingly unlikely (until later in the year that is), price drop on the PS3 that was "rumoured". And this drop will inevitably happen when their sale's start to droop YET AGAIN due to the high price when it was released, and the fact it is STILL a high price TWO YEARS AFTER it was released.

EDIT: RawShark makes a very interesting point about the music used in Game Ad video's. Anyone remember the spectacularly well done HALO 3 Advert, Now that was a masterpiece in and of itself. (And I don't even like ANY of the halo games all that much either.)

I actually think they already had these 'new' maps (for reference, yes I know they didn't specifically say new, but come oooon...) ready to go with the main product before the game was released to the world.
But they knew that Left 4 Dead was a lot of fun game and a solid concept from the get-go and decided that because of this, they could make yet more money(and rightfully so...) by selling 'new' "movies", and each new bit of content with a short 2-3 month wait in between, just to get people properly salivating for their next fix.

It make's alot of sense when you really think about it, because yeah level design does take a while to do, but only a very short while that is once the game's graphic engine is fully modernised/adapted/created, or whatever, everything else is easier to do.
Plus with co-operative tactic's and co-operation in general in-game(ie: healing your friends up etc.) this would influence people to keep coming back for more and more DLC's. And just like zombie's to an old fart with a gimpy leg we'll just keep on coming till there's nothing left.

Enter Left 4 Dead 2 baby!!!!!!!!!!!!

EDIT: Also hasn't anyone noticed just how much people have complained due to the lack of content, yet also hoped for all hopes that some DLC will be released.
Steam's selling plan did wondrous things for them.
We just have to wait and see, what they do next AFTER they release this DLC.
