I've been a huge fan of ALL id games since the dawn of time, I've even read the book "Masters Of Doom" and I thought Doom 3, was fantastic.

Although I just picked up Dark Souls and it has been consuming my soul...I've been thinking about taking a small break from the game by picking up Rage...though I wasn't sure if it's worth it...

I enjoy all sorts of different games, I do enjoy games like Call Of Duty all the way to Catherine.

I've always had a special place in my heart for FPS as I grew up on games like Wolfenstien 3D, etc. (when I wasn't playing my original Nintendo).

Someone convince me to get this game because all the reviewers have YET to do that...i've heard it looks amazing but it's a lot of the same "song and dance" through out the entire game more or less.

I want to place this but I don't want to get stuck with boring, repetitive missions.

Well this is good because I was pretty bummed out with the console versions so far.

But I'm not getting what a install does, that the disc can't? Odd...maybe they're just making up for the hate they were getting during the Beta and it's lackluster visuals at times.

@White: Yeah I went through the entire area and picked it clean of all the items and I have the "ninja" outfit that is decently resistant to poison, but half of the time I'm in such a rush to get there and avoid the dudes with the massive boulders (though I have beaten them plenty of times before) that I just get poisoned, make my way to the queens liar and chill out at the bottom, leaving me 2 estus flask less than I had started (with 10).

Just after I wrote this I actually went into human form, called upon that Mildred or whatever chick and put up my best fight yet against this enemy.

I found it to be pretty easy and I would have ended up beating her if I had moved around a little more in the area (because the lava eventually surrounded me).

If it wasn't for the lava, I would have had her beat.

When I get back home tonight, I'll be likely to beat her, as long as I can re-summon Mildred again.

It's also notable that it was rather weird that when I was summoned as a phantom in someone else's game and they had Mildred fighting with them, that she died like 10 seconds into the match but with me she only had like 10% of her health taken away. (she took/blocked, most of the damage while I just got close to her front side and cut the crap out of this sexually confusing beast).

I shall report back later with a confirm kill and if you're on my server and see a "I DID IT!" sign in the middle of that area, you'll know it was me and I defeated this pain in the ass boss!

Thanks for all the helpful info everyone, I just had a chance to review through all of it and here is my situation...

First, with the "being" invaded by the NPC demon, this has already happened to me ( I honestly thought it was an actual character and I got super excited that I was FINALLY being invaded...and then my hopes were let down as I realized that it was just a NPC, that I disposed of insanely quickly.

So after that I had put a few summon signs down while human and waited, waited and nothing. (this thing where their servers are too empty is starting to get to me).

So I tried fighting the queen.

After a good 20 minutes, I had her health almost to about 35% when she used that "blast" thing that deals major damage from all sides of her.

And then died.

So I rushed back across the swamp (which is annoying because you get poisoned every time) and went back in hallow form.

This time in hallow form, I had my summon sign answered and hopped in another players game which was using the NPC summon you can catch from earlier and the NPC summon was quickly destroyed and I could not use any of my estus flask (I've yet to have this happen to me before, so I don't know why it did now) and of course, like clockwork and with no way to heal myself, I quickly found myself dead.

So it's note worthy to say that I have the best fire resistance equipment on and that I'm a pyromancer.

The weapon I'm using is only getting about 40 damage at a time, I have no idea why it's so low...it's getting very annoying.

I'm at a really bad stuck point right now and it's starting to get under my skin as I'm playing to the best of my ability but it's just not happening, I think a trip back to the firelink shrine to upgrade, etc is going to be needed. ugh

Also, I know I can request to be "summoned" into another players world, but can I summon a player into mine to help me fight this boss? I wasn't sure how that goes exactly...

This really sucks, I'm trying to stay more offensive and get right up in her grill (as most attacks miss this way) but I'm doing such little damage that it's unrealistic in killing her.

I'm guessing using fire isn't a good idea.......sigh...I'm finally at a "choke" in the game and I'm debating going ALLLLLL the way back to firelink shrine to do some of my upgrades, etc.

Sad thing is, is that I don't even think I can make it all the way back.

That's easy!

Because it just happened!

I was fighting the first dragon you face (the one with the teeth in it's belly) and almost had him beat (no joke, 1-2 hits until it was dead) and he had did a charge, I had a full bar of health, was hit and dead instantly.

Oh my way back I was trying to rush through the depths to get my body back and finish this bastard off when I fell down a hole, was surrounded by the frogs who curse you, all I could see was grey smoke, I was slashing frantically and all of a sudden, I turn to stone. As I was cursed.

Oh and I lost a bunch of souls and humanity back where the boss was, I mean like 20k souls and 7 humanity.

And now I was cursed, with ZERO souls and no way to remove the curse besides mindless grinding to buy a stone from someone (which will be on the other side of the universe)

I stopped for a moment when that happened and that "fuck this game" silently to myself...and turned it off for the night.

Right now as we speak, I'm on my way to breaking that curse and shoving a massive sword up that Dragons ass and continuing on.

I finally get to say it, a typical 360 gamer is of course, not going to like this game.

How did you "accidently" attack a merchant?!

I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything but...

That and when the back of a game says "prepare to die" on it, you should know if you're not up for the challenge, to not bother with the challenge man.

From Software takes their games seriously, from Kings Field to even Catherine, they don't play around with this typical "hold your hand to the finish line" crap all these other developers do.

They make real games, for hardcore gamers (not saying you have to be one to enjoy this) but a lot of old school dudes enjoy this game for that simple reason that it FEELS like an old school game in a next generation system, as in difficulty, etc.

I think, personally, that there are harder games out there..Dark Souls is a matter of patience and studying.

Even if you pick up a strategy guide it doesn't tell you what to exactly do, it simple "points" you in the direction and OFF you go to do your OWN work.

I hated Demons Souls at first and then I gave it another chance and went face first into a world of hell and ended up enjoying it more than any game in ages.

Dark Souls isn't for everyone, that's for sure...but to simply hate on a game because you're dying so much and because you're making careless mistakes is downright ignorant man.

Like I said, not being a jerk but come on...

So the chest piece is a good idea even though it's a bit pricey?

I still have a bunch of shards I could upgrade this chest piece with if I bought it, making it even better.

So upon venturing into the "depths", I was going through the sewers looking part and ran into a get sitting down.

He was selling some very interesting items at the time and I'm still next to him and thinking about blowing a lot of souls (in this point of the game) on something.

He has 2 crystal weapons and a crystal shield.

I was thinking about the sword that does 180 damage.

As I'm only a lvl 25 and this seems pretty decent for a pyromancer (I have the strength/dex requirements)

I wasn't sure if the large of the crystal swords is two handed?

Or since it cannot be repaired and only has a durability of 60, if it was worth it to drop 6000 souls on.

I also saw a chest piece of armor that was 10000-12000 souls and it was 46 armor and I'm currently at 35 armor (chest)

I wasn't sure if that was worth it or if I was going to run into something sooner or later.
