Rad, thanks!

And what exactly are the effects of "secret rite"?

I found out that you can kindle any bonfire with the cost of just a humanity, but I'm not sure what this "secret rite" stuff is?

Okay, I think I get the whole "Kindle" thing but if someone could break it down a little more for me that would be rad.

Also, after I did "kindle" (I think I did, I can't remember but I get 10 estus flask from only that bonfire now) I went to do it again in human form and was told I "cannot kindle further without the secret rite".

Just what in the hell is that?

Also, does anyone know where in in the Undead Burg (lower section, right after the boss fight there with the Capra Demon) where you find some NPC who helps you raise your spell level, etc for the Pyromancer?

Sorry about the vagueness in the questions, I''m in a hurry to type them because I'm in human form and just sitting around and last time I did this, my world was invaded. never again.

That's all, I appreciate any of the help anyone can give and if I have any more I surely will ask.

Also, if anyone needs any random basic stuff asked, this is a good place to do it as I know a bunch about the game (but clearly not everything).

Thanks!

This is a easy one for a few different reasons...

First and foremost, staying true to the series is always a noble thing with games that drive as much passion as Demons Souls did.

So with that said, Dark Souls, being the successor to Demons Souls (which was obviously a PS3 ONLY game) it would be correct to buy it on the same platform.

(Every time I see a 360 copy of Dark Souls it makes me feel weird for some reason, like it just doesn't look right)

Second thing being that From Software developed this game on the Playstation 3 and then ported it onto the 360.

We all know when stuff like that happens...remember how most of the time, PS3 owners got the shaft when it came to games developed on the 360 and then later ported to the PS3? There are frame rate issues, graphical issues and other odd problems always with ports.

But From Software has even said it themselves, the PS3 version while not being dramatically different from it's 360 brethren, is better in terms of how it was designed to play (with the controller) as well as specific texture/lighting effects.

Lastly leaving to be that the PS3 will most likely be the bigger seller of the two, meaning that more people will be online on the PS3 version than the 360 version.

For some reason I just feel that 360 only owners who will pick up this game will end up hating it because of the difficulty level it presents over time.

I've always felt that the Playstation crowd is the more "core" gamer crowd (all fanboyism aside) and that PS owners appreciate games like Dark Souls a lot more than 360 owners...now this isn't going to say that there aren't dedicated core gamers on the 360.

It just tends to be people who only like super mainstream titles that own 360's and that there are people who don't want to have patience and fully explore a game like this, nor play it the way it's meant to be played.

So yup, Playstation 3 version ALL the way!

I haven't used the guide per say int he game yet, minus how to get past Hellkite and then which I messed up twice in a row and lost a bunch of souls and humanity and I had my first "F*CK THIS GAME" moment haha

But yeah, as long as you kind of just keep on keeping on, the guide can be used minimal however coming online to discuss tips, etc with other players is way better than even looking at the guide no matter what!

I slightly agree with this, however I went through Demons Souls for the most part, without a guide.

On my second playthrough I used a guide and no joke cut my time by about 70%.

What I mean by this is using a guide for basic knowledge, some layouts and basic direction is a good thing but using it as a crutch of what exactly to do/go isn't.

I find much more enjoyment in simply "referring" to the guide when needed and have a good time soaking in the knowledge that it can provide for tons of other basic stuff and to make my mind familiar to the elements of the game that I may have otherwise missed.

I still do a massive amount of exploring even with the guide, because like I said, I use the guide as a basic "beacon" if you will, to simply point me in the right direction and I do the rest of the work.

Even on bosses, I'll go at them a few times and if I'm still stuck with no hope in sight, I'll refer to the guide to help make my experience a little less time consuming/frustrating because let's face it..it all comes down to skill in the end and how you developed your character.

I have a hard time retaining some of the more simple game knowledge and it's a large reason why I could never keep up with games like WoW, etc.

I learn a bunch of things, don't apply those things for a long time and then forget those things.

This game however brings me back to that "old fashion" feel of resorting to my Nintendo Power magazines before the internet was around, to get tips, hints and maps and it leaves me with still a great satisfaction for my experience with the game because I still feel "rooted' in the risk/reward and punishment of the game.

But I understand what you're saying though and this may apply to some people but not always everyone, especially people brand new to the series who will likely get frustrated and quit early on in the game. (because I'm sure there is already a bunch of people doing this, mainly on the xbox 360 which is a platform that I feel this game was never designed for and just doesn't seem like a "360" type of game.

But that's just me, all fanboyism aside.

Thanks dude and ps, rad name Soundgarden was the sh*t back in the day.

Would you say for someone is more close combat and seldom magic (unless it benefits my situation a lot) should drop a lot of points into Attunement first, not really or later in the game?

I'm just trying to mold this character to my playing style the best because I don't want to put TONS of time in a character and then have them be horrible in the end because I'm just putting stuff into random things without thinking or having the proper knowledge of what's best.

I know the pyromancer was a good choice because I like being quick with dodging/moving, I enjoy physical combat but I also like some magic so I don't want to change my class.

I started with a thief and ended up dropping 6 hours into the game and starting with a new character all over again because I was unhappy with that characters performance.

Also, do you know what the pendant is used for? You can get it as a gift at the start.

So this is dumb but I'm new and I've been looking through the strat. guide that I picked up also and I'm having a hard time figuring out what exactly boost your offensive magic spells.

If I put it to intelligence, does this give me a boost in damage for my basic pyromancer spells? Such as the fireball?

I'm not far right now, as I haven't even rung the first bell so I'm still in my infancy of the game.

I've just been spending a little bit of time grinding some enemies and boosting up a tiny bit before I venture forth and I know with my strength I can see immediate damage results but that's not the same with my magic spells.

And is the attunement attribute really that important?

I'm focusing right now mainly on strength, and then evenly on resistance, vitality, endurance, intelligence but like I said, strength get's the most attention (for right now, but not for long).

I'm new to the forums so please bare with me here, as I've been trying to find a good place to discuss Dark Souls as I'm playing! haha
