50 Disappointing Games of the Generation (PS4)

Disappointing =/= Bad

Just games that didn't live up to their potential or expectations in one way or another.

List items

  • Bioware really hurt this generation, Anthem was supposed to be their next big thing and it failed miserably, continuing to disappoint fans.

In a way it's weird that this is a Bioware game because it doesn't rally fit their M.O.

There are elements I liked about it but there is no denying that, especially after the Andromeda debacle, this was just a kick in the gut for everyone involved.

  • After a legendary trilogy on last gen, it's weird that the next big adventure in this universe felt more like a direct to DVD sequel.

I had to force myself to finish this game as I was so uninterested in what it was doing. Rehashed plot points, unimaginative new solar system, boring new races and worse face tech.

The developers really hurt during development too which makes it even worse.

  • This should have been one of the biggest and safest games to make successful considering the Marvel era we are living in, and it wasn't. Sad to see such talent go to waste and such IP essentially ruined. The chances of them turning it around are also slim, sadly.

  • If you waited all these years for this, I am sorry. The game is clearly on a different level compared to the first ones, more of a budget sequel to what were very AAA entries. The combat was awful, the hunger meter was bad and the voice acting and writing didn't even try to improve one bit. The story still is far from over too...

It's a game stuck in the past in all the wrong ways. It might still give you some feelings of nostalgia though.

  • This was Thief's time to come back, and it botched it. I liked the overall aesthetic and direction they went with in this, but there were plenty of odd design decisions and just not as good of an execution of the ideas.

  • Long wait with multiple delays

    Felt Rushed

    Multiple undelivered promises

Showed a version of the game most people didn't get

Large number of bugs and glitches

    Crunch and mismanagement

Would have been easier on it if it didn't go and oversell itself like it did. If you want all the attention, then you got it.

Poor form from the developers of one of the best games of the generation (Witcher 3)

  • After the amazing MvC 3, this was such a missed opportunity. Fairly weak roster and budget feeling.

Crazy how in the age of the Avengers we got 2 marvel games that missed the ball so hard.

  • A followup to one of my favorite PSP games that really wasn't what I expected or wanted.

  • More like Para-gone :,(

A great 3rd person MOBA killed by the success of Fortnite

  • The game died before I could even give it a proper shot. Really sad, such a waste.

  • This could have been a neat product but had a terrible release with both bugs and online issues battling it out for supremacy. It has improved bit by bit over the years and has a surprisingly nice community. But the aforementioned issues, combined with a very archaic engine and other odd design decisions will continue to hurt it.

  • Terribly mismanaged, unbalanced and died pretty fast. I enjoyed some of my time with it and kind of wished it got a sequel and a retry. That probably won't happen and it adds to the disappointment.

  • Short and just kind of generic playing considering the awesome setting it has. Potential that died as soon as it didn't do well enough to earn a sequel. I still hope they will reconsider and do another one though.

  • A very meh entry in the series, it might not be rising again after this one.

  • Wanted this to fill the MotorStorm shaped hole in my heart, but it didn't. It just crashed and burned. Kudos that it tried something new at least.

  • A weak attempt to salvage the franchise after Kojima left.

  • Really wanted this to be the new Banjo Kazooie, wasn't .

  • Cool character models and interesting world, very dull and odd gameplay loop.

  • Seemed like such a promising game with an interesting premise. Didn't really grab me.

  • It needed to be a better game so we might continue to see this series pop up again. Sadly it kind of joins the first one as falling short of potential.

  • Always disappointing when a mediocre game gets a second chance only to receive a mediocre sequel, turning this in a mediocre franchise which is probably dead now.

  • Repetitive and dull gameplay with a pretty good narrative and cast of characters. Wasn't the quality people wanted.

  • Didn't reach the heights of Until Dawn.

  • Didn't look anywhere as good as what was first shown and really put a bad taste in everybody's mouth with that. The game itself also didn't have the best story and main character, but it still provided some semi fun open world hijinks so it wasn't all bad. Got sequels too.

  • Lots of issues at launch on new consoles, also just a big step down compared to Black Flag.

  • Really wanted to like this as a fan of Gothic, the combat is really terrible and I struggled to enjoy it.

  • Wanted to enjoy it but just couldn't.

  • Didn't reach my expectations.

  • Felt overly produced and tried too hard, a subtler more "indie" feeling game would have worked much better and cost less to make too (didn't uphold the spirit of the movie)

  • The IP got a second chance and didn't do anything too memorable with it.

  • Seemed like a cool idea and possibly a great new IP. Didn't deliver and the IP is never coming back.

  • Cool idea and could have been this gen's Twisted Metal. But it was poorly managed and just too off-putting to become anything but a faded memory.

  • Really wanted an amazing Predator game. Wasn't all the polished and seems to have died out.

  • Low expectations for this one and I actually ended up really liking it more then I thought I would. But the game didn't last, dying quickly and making it hard to find matches anymore. It also got mismanaged a bunch.

  • Could have been a cool new IP

  • Performance issues and just didn't really grab me

  • Didn't have such high expectations and was even pleasantly surprised at times by it. But the repetitive nature of quest design and the lack of co-op were puzzling.

  • Very weird plot that ends in a cliffhanger that will never be addressed, poor visuals for a new "next gen" game, weak multiplayer, didn't bring anything new to the series.

  • A weaker followup to Darksiders II.

  • Wasn't really the direction people wanted from Wolfenstein. Also, it's weird how the tech in the world is still so similar so many years in the future.

  • Single player was one of the best in the series, multiplayer was one of the weakest and a carbon copy of the one in Black Ops 3. People were also tired of future jetpacks by now.

  • Didn't enjoy the multiplayer in this one as much as the first.

  • The launch was disastrous and filled with lies so that automatically drops it's max score threshold. The game did turn itself around however and is a lot better presumably, I still haven't clicked with it yet.

  • Had pretty high expectations for it after it's reveal, didn't deliver.

  • Looked good but cop chases were weak and the story wasn't what I thought would be.

  • Long wait, felt unfinished, lots of cut/altered content that was previously shown. It's a solid title but it also left a sour taste in my mouth because of all of the above.

  • One of my favorite games of 2015. But the scrapped final chapter, weaker narrative and boss fights left me with a bit of a bad taste in my mouth.

  • A case of showing a better looking game and then not delivering on that at release is always a recipe for disappointment. And that was the case here, even thought the game itself still looks good and was pretty fun.

  • For a remastered PS1/PS2 era platformer, this wasn't bad at all. But that's not what this was. Also, wasn't really much of a platformer either but I did enjoy going in it with low expectations.

  • A terrible launch and just did't feel like a big upgrade over SF IV. It did get better with time.
