Top 20 Dragon Age characters

Honourable mentions AKA characters from the Dragon Age Novels, Stolen Throne and The Calling who for obvious reasons do not have entries in the GB wiki-database:

    Prince/King Maric Theirin
  Prince/King Maric Theirin

King Maric started out life in Dragon Age: The Stolen Throne as a teenager following his mother, the Rebel Queen and her army around. But he soon learns of the hardships of having an entire nation depending on him. With his best friend, a young Loghain Mac Tir and his soon to be wife, Rowan he sets about freeing Ferelden from the Orlesians.

Watching Maric sacrifice his happyness constantly for his country throughout The Stolen Throne and The Calling made me feel a bit sorry for him. He turned out to be a great character, unlike his son Cailan.

I was also a fan of Queen Rowan and Katriel the Elf.

List items

  • In my two playthroughs of Dragon Age: Origins I killed him, then I read The Stolen Throne and The Calling and I've sent Alistair packing ever since. He's a genius tactician and I don't blame him for abandoning the battle at Ostagar. It's just a pity that it caused the death of Duncan.

  • Not to spoil the events of the DLC Witch Hunt, but I got what I went for. Here's hoping she appears in DAII.

  • Hero of Ferelden, Warden Commander. Known to be an Elf Warrior one day and a human Mage the next. Hawke can't match up to him surely. I hope not.

  • Was one of my favourites originally and then his "origins" in The Calling cemented his place in my top 5.

  • Enchantment? Enchantment!

  • An around bad-ass complete with great quotes such as:

    # Warden: "Tell me about the qunari."

    # Sten: "No."

"If I were indeed hostile, you would be bleeding."

(Sten consoles a widow) "The man you love has died. It seems you could have chosen better."

    # Warden: "Elves have strange powers."

    # Sten: "Being easily conquered does not constitute a 'power'."

(Upon finding the Urn of Sacred Ashes, to which Leliana, Alistair and Wynne treat as an once in a lifetime honour) "Congratulations, you've found a wastebin."

"Where is the cake? I was told that there would be cake. The cake is a lie."

  • Either as an old mysterious Witch or a young seductress Flemeth is one of the more complex characters. Looking forward to seeing what she does in DAII. Hopefully her plans are revealed.

  • I called my dog Jim and he never left my side, here's to you Jim.

  • Wynne saved me in-game more times than I can count. She has good advice and the body model of a young woman, can't complain about that!

  • Shale should've been in the game from the start, a good tank and a fellow hater of birds.

  • I was very happy to learn what Oghren had been up to between Origins and Awakening, perfect writing for him by the writers. He also sees Wynne's youthful model for what it is.

  • Anders was a funnier, more useful version of Alistair and came without the baggage that Alistair had. Mr Wiggums and Ser-Pounce-Alot have given me a much better opinion of cats!

  • At first I just assumed that Nathaniel was going to be a complete asshole like his dad but to his (and the writers') credit he was a decent guy, most surprising character in Awakening.

  • Justice had the best look of any character in the game, even the wife of the man whose body he's using was terrified. He's pretty good to play as too.

  • Poor Jowan, he only realises what an idiot he is after he does mistake after mistake. Even his redemption was taken out of the game. He'd make a great party member in DAII.

  • I hate Alistair's royal blood as much as he does. Without it he was funny and a decent Grey Warden.

  • "Shale: I have a question for the painted elf

Zevran: The painted elf? You mean me? I quite like that - go ahead.

    Shale: You are a Crow?

Zevran: Well... not exactly... yes i suppose I am, why?

Shale: So you like to defecate on poor unsuspecting statuary.

Zevran: (in best flirty voice) Given the chance, yes.

Shale: Stand far away from me elf, far, far away.

Zevran: Alas, this is not an uncommon reaction to my presence."

Just one of the hilarious conversations Zevran has, he isn't higher up on the list because I don't use him in my party all that often.

  • I think the fact that I'm more interested in Wynne, play-style and body model explains why Leliana is so far down the list. Maybe a playthrough of Leliana's Song will improve my opinion of her.

  • GRRRRR Anger! Take Morrigan, give her Elven ears, take away the sarcastic humour and add unstable emotions and you have Velanna. She had a mild charm but without her mage abilities I doubt I would've played as her much.

  • I hate this guy. He's had long enough to figure out humans and emotions and he still completely fails. But he's got a good design and was pretty cool in Dragon Age: The Calling.

@Wunder_: Sacred Ashes trailer Leliana was waaay more hot than Sacred Ashes trailer Morrigan. In-game I just can't leave my witch-bitch.

This dude knows the score. My first playthrough was awkward because my female character looked a whole lot like Leliana.
