" @The_Boots said: I don't actually have a problem with the ads that have been here - couldn't they just do that more regularly? also get some sponsors for the bombcasts. "
They actually mentioned that sponsors for podcasts are near impossible to land (with the exception of audible.com) when they announced the split podcast plan. As for ads, I can't imagine they pay as well per user as a subscription would, so the number of ads would probably increase by a fair number.
" Officially extended to the 15th. This is a done deal. "
Okay, to me this seems obvious that they are just trying to get people to subscribe by using the Bombcast. Which seems pretty dirty to me. "
I agree and I don't. The whole thing with splitting the Bombcast was a two way thing. With how long theirs runs, I can completely understand that their choice is to either cut it to half length, or use part of it as an incentive to subscribers. I don't really know that they picked the lesser of the two evils so much as the one that made the most business sense, but I'd hardly call it dirty.
@MattNaylor: Hate to break it to you man, but they don't. Every single profitable gaming site is supported by ads, subscriptions, or some other form of revenue. Money just doesn't fall into their pockets. Some of those ads come in the form of previews etc I'm sure, but after the whole thing with Jeff and Gamespot before he helped start this site, I doubt that they would accept money for special coverage (see their stance on doing a review for Bastion).
I'll admit that the Comic Vine stuff was slow, but it's no reason to hate on the site. AnimeVice...ok, I love the stuff Tom puts up, but I always thought he was more of a Whiskey Media floater (posts on Comic Vine too). I'm not even sure that AV has actual staff anymore. It's just him keeping the site alive by his own force of will and curiosity (he's no anime expert, but he's definitely interested in the medium). As much as I love the stuff he puts up, this really should change.
