As someone who's played and loved all the Metal Gears I'm still unclear on who Original Big Boss was, so seeing the "transformation" feels besides the point since I'm not sure what his personaliy is supposed to be anyways.

I mean was he really an evil person in MG1 & 2? And didn't he always believe he was fighting for the greater good? The greater good just happened to cost many innocent lives.

I should replay those games..

You know.... the more I think about this, the more I like how Arkham City had political Prisoners as an "idea" of citizens..... but yeah, it's ridiculious and stupid.

Yeah, totally. I do hope there's some equivalent to that in AK, every now and then it's nice to rescue someone/interact with a human you don't just pummel into dust.

Not sure I'd care too much. There was a quote from one of the Rocksteady guys about including the Batmobile where he said "It wouldn't be much fun if you were driving around Gotham trying to avoid pedestrians" or something like that, which sounds really reasonable. Unless the driving was on rails, you could potentially spend a lot of time dodging around people, which doesn't sound fun for the type of game they're making.

Did you ever play Driver?

In those games (or at least the first two) all the civilians were just master dodgers. They'd juke and dive out of the way and were pretty much impossible to hit. It was hilarious of course so maybe not great for a dark Batman game, but, who knows, maybe that could work.

Having seen what a civilian's worth in past open world super hero games like Spiderman 2 and inFamous, I just can't bring myself to care one way or the other.

Way too many people to rescue in Spiderman 2. It got to the point where I resented people for needing to be rescued, which, now that I write that out, seems like an interesting perspective into a life of fighting crime.

So once again we'll be playing as Batman in a Gotham City that has been evacuated/it's christmas/everyone is on vacation.

No civilians! Bad guys only!

Of course there are great gameplay/narrative reasons for this but it got me wondering if we'll ever see a Gotham a la GTA with civilians in it.

Are you bummed? Happy? Don't care? How would you deal with civilians in a Batman game?

Is Threes really the first game of its kind?

And so what anyway?

If people hadn't aped Mario for 25 years where would we be now? I mean shit if 2048 is a clone of Threes isn't Rayman a clone of Mario? A little reductive maybe, and I get why it's so frustrating - especially on the mobile space, where any game that comes out and is even moderately successful is instantly cloned a thousand times over - but yeah, seems like a waste of energy to get in a fit about.

Imagine how impossible it would be to draft some kind of legislation that stopped game cloning.

Seriously with this thread?

Pretty lame to go on a website forum to diss people on a forum of another website.

"Hey video game nerds can you believe how uncool these other nerds on the comics site are?? Isn't that SOOoo funny!??!?!"

Yeah. Hilarious.

No sane person categorically likes one dimension of perspective better than another.

There are great 2D games, and great 3D games. Comparing them is bananas.

To be honest I feel there is less comm chatter in all the games I play these days.

Even the PC Titanfall beta was largely very quiet.

So I don't think it's PlayStation specific, but I get your point. It definitely could be that years without a headset has made the general PS crowd less likely to use a headset.

And while that sounds rightish, I stand by my first statement. I feel all the games I play have less people talking in them then they did 5 years ago. The only exceptions are obvious ones where voice chat is far more necessary (Arma, L4D off the top of my head).

I think what happened is that for a period lots of us did login with headsets, but you would just end up muting 99% of players and at some point you realize What's the point? and just forget about the headset.

To end a long post:

Unless voice chat is necessary or a massive advantage to the game, it makes sense that people wouldn't use it.

yeah just play FTL already, for fuck's sake.

It's so naturally episodic/exciting/interesting.

He should wait for the AE and play on hard, that'd be cash money.

That's really cool about Mercenary Kings. Excited to try that.
