Playstation Move kind of looks lame

Remember when Sony had their demo of the "Move" during E3 09?  People were divided into two camps.  People who said "Fuck this shit, it is the poor man's Wii remote!!!" and the people who said "This really looks like it has a lot of potential."  I will say I am in the latter.  Looking at the tech demo they had, everything about it blew me away.  First was the fact that the pointer didn't twitch, which is comparable to the Wii which is quite frequent with the exception of a few games (e.g. Dawn of Discovery).  I was looking forward to Move because it seemed more intuitive and smoother than the Wii remote.  Now it seems like they are just imitating Nintendo then out doing Nintendo.  No matter how impressive the hardware is, you need software to back it up.

SOCOM 4: US Navy SEALs

They have a nice idea with this game.  It was the kind of support people wanted with the Wii remote when it first came out, only left dead at the alter for the lackluster Red Steel.  A game  that controlled poorly and didn't show off the best of what the Wii can do.  I played SOCOM game before on the PS2 at a friends house.  It was then that I learned that I was Dual Analog stick illiterate when it came to First Person Shooters or for that matter, any shooter.  The Wii remote was the first time I showed any interest for the Genre on the consoles.  Still not as good as the Mouse and Keyboard but at least I can play the damn games.  The game itself is very conduitish, in a way that it still makes it seems boring regardless.

TV Superstars
Did anyone really care for You're in the Movies?  Apparently 450,000 people actually did.

Just look at that video.  What so interesting about this game?  So you launch dudes into the sky and play jump rope.  It feels like Sony is trying to make a cheap knock off of what Microsoft attempted, and it seems like they are doing worse.

The Shoot
I don't hate rail shooters.  The problem is that they are forgetting the appeal of what made Rail shooters so awesome.  People like these kind of games to have an arcade feel to them.  The Shoot just looks like it is a flash gameplay with polygons. Take Link's Crossbow Training for example.  It was simple, accessible and fun.  The might as well throw Time Crisis 4 in the mix because has some pull for me personally, and it was already made for the PS3.

Motion Fighter

Lame.  Maybe it is just poor presentation, but it looks so fucking slow.  Wii Sports Boxing was pretty frantic, a much more interesting take.

Eyepet

It's not that bad of an idea, sort of looks like Nintendogs.

I want to have sex with my Eyepet.

Move Party
Sony is jumping the gun.  They need to wait for the casual crowd to care about their new Playstation Move first.

Sports Champion

Looks like Wii sports, but trust me, it isn't.  They lost it somewhere in translation and it seems to be missing that Charm.

Maybe it is because they are using realistic looking characters?  Maybe trying to look too technical.  I don't know, I might pass on this since I already have Wii sports resort.

LittleBigPlanet

It actually makes it compelling in the same fashion as physics puzzler.  I actually liked World of Goo, so perhaps this could be up my ally.

Well then I guess the Wii was shit as soon as it launched.

Not a single thing on that list interests me.  Maybe at a stretch, LBP.  It just doesn't excite me at all.  Maybe a year down the track something compelling will come along, but the developers need millions and millions of these controller in homes to justify the development cost.  With one controller pack, in my currency, it will push the cos of the PS3 up to $700, so I am going to give it a big miss for about $300 price reduction's time - not soon.

Very interested in the table tennis game, then again, I really play and enjoy table tennis in the comforts of my own home.

I agree with you, it lacks the Nintendo charm. It seems too serious and stiff.

Being a person who thinks the Wii Sports series are the only games that have justified motion controls, I find the Sports Champions game to be interesting.  The gladiator stuff in particular looks to add more depth to what Wii Sports Resort did with sword fighting.  The art design is extremely generic though.

So maybe they shouldn't show them. The public isn't generally very forgiving or visionary with alpha versions.

Yeah, I don't think what happens at GDC is supposed to be intended for the public, even though we got to see it? I don't know, I am not Sony. But maybe it will look better for people come E3 time.

@Jeust: You gotta remember that the general public generally isn't gonna see this stuff. The dev conference is not a public event. Still, the games looked really boring and dull. When they pulled out the 'nunchuck', I almost spit out my drink. Are they serious?

Yes but we understand the implications of an Alpha demo, so when most of us interpret it to say, our less-informed friend, we aren't likely to just say "zomg it sux".

I still think they're searching for their "killer-app", but so long as the technology has potential then we have to assume the games will come.

There was a survival horror type "torch" demo thing in the show-reel which would be cool. The game's they showed looked fun, but I'll agree they weren't totally inspiring. Having said that, it's nice to see the thing demoed live with a name, etc.

I'd assume this isn't their full hand. These games seem like easy digestable demoes to get people hands-on with the tech.

The potential's there, they just need a killer-app to propel it past the "we've kinda seen this on the Wii" stage.

B; its had enough time to feature software worth buying it for

Don't get me wrong, I'm barely even interested in move but come on the freaking thing isn't even on store shelves yet.
If by the end of the year its still a "lame" product with nothing interesting or compelling to justify its purchase then you should complain about it.

Around 5 years ago it would have been accurate to say the 360 didn't have much going for it.  Nothing in history has ever launched as a 'must buy' for everyone, these things take time.

I'm not surprised you think it's lame, you're most likely not the demographic they are aiming for with it. Two of the videos I saw had kids playing the game. The other vids just seemed like they are targeted at people who don't regularly visit gaming forums (meaning casual, or a.k.a a large portion of the Wii audience.)

I think that they have something good here, casual gamers who have the money are going to enjoy it, and children are going to love it. I'm personally not interested in it, but that's for the same reasons I already mentioned.

Now I'm more curious about the Natal's business model. With the success of the Wii, I expect other business's to try to take some of the audience. GTA was highly successful, and how many clones came out of that? Same principle here.

I think it looks better than Natal, but at least Microsoft didn't just rip off what the other guy was doing (for once). Sony's level of un-originality is disappointing.

The launch of the Wii did kind of suck. There are only a handful of launch games that looked interesting.

-Trauma Center
-Wii Sports

I wish they kept in the style of the original tech demo showed at e3.  I think that would have been a nice design, oddly enough.

I hate rhetorics like that.  "Well it is pre-alpha."  It looks like it is almost developed and complete.  It is the same shit with The Conduit.  "Well the engine is complete, so be considerate."  That game sucked.

Just look at the direction they are taking with the games with "Playstation Move".  That doesn't look like it is "pre-alpha," in fact it looks quite playable.

It would be nice if they out shined Nintendo.  Sony obviously has some potential, I just think they are not meeting up to it.  It just seems like a really lame way to launch a new piece of hardware.

1) I'm not judging the software as some as the software being offered at launch
2)Yet this is the direction they plan on taking with Move based on the games being developed.

I was actually quite interested in Move when they first showed it off at E3 09.  They seem to be doing the Quantity over Quality which would upset a potential buyer such as myself.
The Xbox360 actually had some decent software to show in 2005.
-Call of Duty 2
-Project Gotham Racing 3
-Geometry Wars
-Dead or Alive 4
-Need for Speed Most Wanted
-Condemned
- Perfect Dark Zero
-Kameo

While they aren't exactly the cream of the crop, they are still pretty good games.

Most Launches have some notable titles to go along with it. This is only a small list, not the entire list.

NES
-Super Mario Bros.
-Duck Hunt

Genesis
-Space Harrier 2
-Alex Kidd
-Altered Beast

SNES
-Super Mario World
-FZero
-Pilot Wings

Sega Saturn
-Virtua Fighter
-Panzer Dragoon

Playstation 1
-Rayman
-Ridge Racer
-Wipeout

 N64
-Super Mario Bros. 64
-Pilot Wings

Dreamcast (One of the best launches in History)
-House of the Dead 2
-Monaco Grand Prix
-NFL 2k
-NFL Blitz 2000
-Power Stone
-Ready to Rumble
-Soul Calibur
-Sonic Adventure

Playstation 2
-Dead or Alive 2: Hardcore
-Tekken Tag Tournament
-Time Splitters

I could go on if I wanted.

In all honesty, I thought SOCOM 4, Move Party and Sports Champions all looked good -- without ever reaching that "ohfuckthatsawesome" stage. I'd actively like to play said three games, and will probably buy them at launch.

If that pads out their launch list then so be it -- what Sony now need is the "ohfuckthatsawesome" piece of software. Problem is - it's really hard striking something like that.

In some ways, as excited as I am for the possibilities of Move, I wish Sony weren't pushing this quite so hard. They've been really successful with just straight-up, plain-old software lately, and while they absolutely have to bring "new" ideas forward to stay relevent - I hope they don't push this too hard.

Obviously, work to make Move a success. But the Playstation 3 has had a resurgence over the last 12 months through good ol' traditional software, and in many ways I hope that's top of their list, with Move in second.

I think it's silly to keep seeing these threads. The Natal and the PSMove are both cleared going to be marketed as family oriented products with a hint of maturity as to suck us in and try them out...

The real question here is:

How am I going to be able to keep my Wii Sensor bar, Natal Camera and Eye Toy on my TV so that I don't have to keep swapping them out to use them?!
