But why would a system change stop them from anticipating it? People are excited for Dragon Quest X, they aren't excited about it because it's on the Wii.

Dude, the series is really fucking popular over there. Not having been talked about for a while isn't going to do anything to stop the anticipation.

I think I'm gonna have to go against the crowd a bit with Resonance of Fate. 15-20 hours into the game, I thought it was one of the best RPGs of last year, but by chapter 13 I had lost all interest.

It's enjoyable, but I thought it got kind of old towards the end. Having to constantly walk from one end of the world map to another is tedious, and it's plagued by random battles that take way too long, yet are boring and unchallenging.

The game is excellent during tough fights, but once you get a hang of the battle system it just gets kind of easy, and very few fights are challenging. There's also a bunch of really annoying points where you don't have your full party with you, and that really killed it for me.

There aren't really many good JRPGs for consoles this generation. You'd have better luck getting one on a portable system or downloading a PS1 game from PSN.

" @Vodun:  In my personal opinion, I think violent behavior is to complicated to boil down to one causal factor.  Plus, I think mental disorders are just an extension of one's environment, social support, family support, and sense of belonging that have affected the nature of one's cognitive processes which, in turn, affect one's behaviors and emotions. "
I definitely agree.

I think one of the biggest misunderstandings people have of psychology is this idea that the causes of human behavior can be nailed down to just a few issues. It's much more complicated than that.

" @JasonR86: Wow, this is exactly the kind of response I wanted from this thread =)   Are you saying then that the general situation the mental disorder places the person in is more likely to be the cause of their actions. Rather than the disorder itself?

Absolutely. People with mental disorders go through stressful situations, they have trouble getting work, people may not trust them, and they may feel they can't trust anybody else. The overwhelming burden of these problems is what can contribute to the violent behavior, just as it could with somebody who has no mental disorder.

@Vodun said:

" But aren't there disorders which make a person more prone to violent acts? "

It is greatly exaggerated how dangerous some of those illnesses can make people. The vast majority of people with mental disorders are not dangerous under otherwise normal circumstances, and most of them would be more dangerous to themselves than others. Even among those illnesses that can make people more violent, the majority of people with those illnesses have not harmed anybody.

I would if they didn't enjoy fusing or grinding(like, at all. They hate fusing with a passion and are not fans of grinding). They didn't like either of those things, yet they spent obscene amounts of time doing them.  It depends if you'd define "lack of understanding with regards to the game's basic mechanics" as "lack of skill", if you do, they lacked skill, if you don't....well your mileage may vary!  Disregarding the word "skill" for a second, I would definitely consider them bad at the game. "
I agree entirely.

I had played through the game several times first, so I found it absolutely maddening to watch them play the game.

The fact that you accidentally hit a button that caused you to do something you didn't want to do is your own fault. It's not the fault of the game. You could accidentally hit the wrong button in any situation, in any game, causing any number of unintended problems. You could accidentally throw a grenade in an FPS when you didn't want to, you could select the wrong enemy to attack in a turn based RPG, or click the wrong unit in an RTS. That's just the nature of video games. Hell, there were times in Mass Effect where I accidentally clicked the wrong dialogue option but I didn't blame the game for it.

Also this thread just inspired me to start up a new file on the game.

Are Vaan, Fran, and Balthier your only party options at this point? "
No. We just released Basch from his cage but he's apparently weak as butter. He was going down so fast and I wasted all my Phoenix Downs on him. "
He'll get much more useful later, he'll find some armor and weapons later in the dungeon and he'll be able to help you out much more.

But seriously, use Libra and find out if the spiders have a weakness. Somebody else suggested that they may be weak to Ice, if they are then that may make things easy.

Almost as if the entire world population is at the very least willing to swing both ways, and that's just not natural at all. It makes it obvious that this was a forced decision during the development of the game.
Openness to homo/bisexuality isn't necessarily consistent across cultures. Just because in our own culture it's relatively rare doesn't mean it wouldn't be more common in another culture. For example, in Ancient Greece it was very common and not at all considered to be a deviation from the norm. In fact, they didn't really identify themselves based on their sexual preference, because it wasn't a big deal to them. Who's to say that in a fictional, fantasy setting it couldn't also be very common?
