Why exactly does loot appeal to you less when there's no exp/leveling? I've only played up to the 2nd level boss so far, but so far the fact that there's no exp means that the loot is exponentially more important! Especially that it forces you to focus more on how you're equipping your characters. I'm playing as Shanoa and to keep her fireballs doing max damage I've been sacrificing str and def in order to equip whatever minor int increasing items I have available to me. That appeals to me a lot more than just grinding her up 5 or 10 levels so that she's powerful enough to just attack through everything." Well I'm a loot person but loot doesn't appeal to me when there's no experience, no leveling etc. :( "
I was really bummed about the lack of exp at first too, but after thinking about it, all of the Castlevanias up until now have had a de facto "max" level where the player is just overpowered to the point where leveling doesn't matter anymore. I think you might just be more upset at the loss of the direct numerical gauge of how powerful your character is. I prefer this system because it makes every incremental item upgrade that I get that much more meaningful where in past Castlevania games most of the loot was trivialized because the game was so easy to breeze through with your favorite weapon and whatever the highest defense gear was that you could come with.
