Uh, I guess? I dunno, I handle disappointment pretty well. Unless something is offensively bad, I'll usually give whoever's behind it a new chance in the future. It'll usually take many failures before I'm "done" with something. Even then, I won't stop liking my favorite band's older work after say 3 bad albums in a row.
For example, Dragon Age 2 was very underwhelming. At the same time, I neither thought it was the "worst game ever made" or that all of Bioware's future games would automatically suck because of one dud. The SomethingAwful forums were fucking terrible with this, even going as far as retroactively declaring DA: Origins, Mass Effect 2, Jade Empire, even KOTOR and Baldur's Gate to be bad games after DA2 was released.
Another example is Star Wars. I grew up watching those movies and I still think The Empire Strikes Back is one of the greatest films ever made. That doesn't make me freak out over Kinect Star Wars or the other crappy games that come out of that franchise. I'll just shrug and acknowledge that it's not for me instead of going for the typical "George Lucas is raping my childhood again!" reaction.
I went to university from 2008 to 2011, studying Interaction Design. Not finished yet though, since I haven't actually done my final project. It's been so long now that I somehow doubt I'm ever gonna get it done.
I got the idea a while ago that I should give GT5 another chance. Since I rarely start my PS3 up, I'm always ready for a bunch of downloads. I started preparing for it by downloading all patches and installing them before I went to bed. The next day, I popped the disc back in and... another 2GB patch. At that point I decided it wasn't worth my time, no matter how much they've improved the physics. Patching stuff on the PS3 is a goddamn nightmare.
I second (third, fourth?) getting an actual PS2. The old PS3s are all starting to die, so spending so much money on something that's likely not going to last would be a waste. We stopped trading in the 60GB model at work since there's no way of replacing them nowadays.
I really liked the core of the game. Shooting felt great, the gadgets were fun to use, the vehicles handled well and the game ran really nicely after they patched the PC version. What I would have liked was better writing and a better world. It was too dry and serious and the world just wasn't that fun to explore. Give the characters some more personality! The designs were good, as were the animations, so they really need something more interesting to say. Take a cue from Bethesda on how to build an open world game. It doesn't need to be as vast as Skyrim, but fill it with cool stuff for the player to find.
Another vote for Retro Gamer! They usually have awesome retrospectives covering single games, entire series, developers and consoles/computers. The magazine is also free from typical rose-tinted glasses nostalgia, as they will go through what made me the game great in its time and usually say how well it holds up. The staff are all good writers with a nice sense of humor. Also, the "OLD!" label on the cover is adorable.
