I too enjoyed the Final Fantasy XIII-2 Demo, and what felt like non-stop apologies about the last game from the few dudes running the demo kiosk :P

They were nice dude's though, answered all my obnoxious questions about the game to the best they could. They're shooting for one disk on the 360, might give you an idea regarding the amount of CG cutscene's this game is not apparently going to have.

But yeah, I thought the QTE would feel out-of-place. It didn't, and it actually made sense. The storyline seemed cryptic as hell. Multi-dimensions? Giants appearing in-and-out of planes of reality? What?!

I really liked what I saw. I hope it continues moving in the direction that was on display. At one point near the end, you're given an option to use a device to power-down a boss, or go at it head-on. There was also four options to ask characters for advice given the situation for this choice. I wouldn't have minded a more traditional, Final Fantasy XIII with some bloody towns and actual exploration, but I was not ready for multi-linear story options. How this will effect the long-term out-look of the full game is yet to be determined, but it looked pretty neat. I'm really curious how that game is going to unfold.

Oh, and Pulse is in the sky now? AHHH! DIMENSIONS!

Tomorrow I'm hitting up either Skyrim/Rage/The Darkness 2 or Mass Effect 3.

Suffice to say: I am ready to stand for a long period of time.

Haha true, new Endurance run will be sweet. I'm guessing Catherine, but I'm hoping Persona 4.

Show was great. Vinny was on fire. Just wished we could get some Jon Vignocchi in there.

Oh they just said there's going to be a new endurance run but didn't say which game? I hope it isn't Catherine. They already know how it ends.

They made a joke congratulating that no one asked them if there was going to be a new Endurance Run...and then they announced a new Endurance Run.

*Giant Round of Applause*

They also said more subscriber only video's were going to appear, and Jeff is getting his own "Wall of Fame" series or something.

So, yeah, it was actually a very informative and entertaining podcast.

Alright: Message received loud and clear EA. Was totally not planning to do that. Hopefully you can come to your senses and give an opt-out option you imbeciles. I would like to support Dice, thank you very much.

Splicing game mechanics into different genre's is a concept that has been around since gaming's inception, and RPG's have been flirting with different non-traditional mechanics for decades
Deus Ex says hello, and Japan was messing around with real-time battle systems for years...
Or are we still not considering those part of?...Ugh, I can't follow this anymore. This is what happens when I read something comment worth at 4 am.

Anyway, I think he should have framed that a bit better. It's a little disconcerting when someone you would assume should know their own genre's past history, make broad statements like that.
But he's in "Let's sell a crap load of Mass Effect 3 copies"mode, so I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.

I think RPG as a genre term is becoming less relevant. Nowadays where everything has at least a  touch of RPG in it it's become more of a gameplay mechanic than a genre.
How dare you define a game genre, based on shared mechanics and design.

Beth's Cafe - 7311 Aurora Avenue North

Beth's Cafe is a 24 hour diner conveniently located next to a great shitty bar, named The Duck. Beth's was briefly featured by the Travel Channel for its Dozen Egg Omlette. The food is of a varying quality. How well the food is prepared is directly linked to the sobriety of the cook, however more sober does not always mean more better. The waitresses are just as likely to sweet talk you as they are to kick your ass. Cries of "Bitch" and "Motherfucker" by the staff color the place quite nicely. Beth's has been here as long as anyone can remember, and will continue to be here long after anyone is left to remember. No matter how bad the food or shitty the service, Beth's will continue to be packed each and every day. The wait to get in for breakfast can be as long as an hour on a busy day, and people happily wait it. Just whatever you do, don't drink the coffee. Nothing good can come from it.

I approve of Beth's, and it's ability to feed me at hours no normal human being should find appropriate.

@BlazeHedgehog: This is an absolutely fantastic read, and your solution is so simple it infuriates me.
It's not perfect, but I can see it working. I wouldn't have bought Doom back in the day, if it wasn't for it's shareware release. While those glory days are over, there was a part of me the other day questions why there wasn't going to be a Syrim demo.
Yeah, sure, a huge RPG is not an acceptable game to make for a demo...But wait, why not? Why not give us a few quests to check-out? We have the technology, to then continue your character into the full retail product. Why isn't this happening?

I assume the reason is not much a developer issue, but a publisher one. In this age of making you pay extra money, for a used game: I'm surprised that we get so many demo's these days. Making a demo requires it's own scheduling, and money. It's also something that's designed, by itself, not to make money. In other words: You would have to convince the big-boys up at the top.
It fluctuates from project to project, but in turn, you are correct about this: Not many people know how a game is going to play most of the time, until they buy it. Give people a reasonable out-let to try your game, and go back to creating interest via the actual game, and not poorly staged quick-looks with deadpan developers staring into a camera.

It's bothersome that the reasoning the large majority of people here have on not having Link talk, is strictly based on the assumed poor quality the voice acting would be.

I don't mean that as an insult, or a negative downplaying of that opinion. In-fact, I agree with it: I just don't have faith Nintendo could pull it off. It's depressing regarding the fallout concerning how they handled Samus in Other M, I was really excited to hear her speak. If there was something that actually bothered me during the later Metroid Prime games was her lack of voice.

I find unvoiced main-characters to be an antiquated concept. I just don't get it anymore. Unless your writing is strong enough to perhaps invoke a feeble connection to said character, (Bioware) I doesn't make sense. There are exceptions to perhaps certain deliberate characters, Gordon's lack of voice is iconic in nature. But I don't think Link qualifies, and I know that the rest of Hyrule is not immune.

Yes, I would love to hear an protagonist in a long running action adventure game series speak more than grunts. I believe it is completely possible to have Link speak, and to have a good majority of us enjoy it.

Do I think Nintendo can currently pull that off?
No.
In the mean time, I think it's perfectly acceptable to ask for NPC's to be voiced.
