minor update for those not in the know ... the game is on a DVD that has both versions (PC and Mac) on it, no need to pay attention to which version you get., kinda renders this whole topic moot.
admittedly i thought the topic meant regular vs Galactic Edition (Galactic for me)
i have little or no respect for the (new) gamespot as an unbiased review site, so their rating has VERY little (if any) impact on my view.
I did read one of the user reviews (that gave a lower score) and noticed a few points (that I disagree with), namely that the reviewer didn't think much of the RTS part of the game and such--which I found as ridiculous as Spore was never marketed as such (I would have commented on it but I have long forgotten my login info for that site and didn't care THAT much to respond). I also noted a few opinions that the game is generally 'short'...that is it could be 'beaten' in several hours... again, this isn't the focus of the game as I understand it. The point is to have fun developing your own species and just see how they perform in a completely custom environment and so on and so on...
The way I'll approach it when I get it will be a nice and casual fun game to pass several hours by at a time, much like how I play Civ IV (note: i'm NOT comparing Spore to Civ IV, other than to pass the time by :) )
Personally I'm looking very forward to the spaceship builder and such...
'Digital Rights Management' (depending on who you ask), an antipiracy scheme. in this case its SecuROM and EA's set it so that you can only (re)-install Spore a max of 3 times (tho potentially if you need more, you can call them up and ask for a new unlock code or some such).
by definition a toy is any device whose (sole) purpose is to provide entertainment/fun, and that is indeed the purpose of video games.
i know, the PC also plays games, but the PC can do other things too, and is more aptly named a 'tool'--unless of course the user ONLY uses it for games, and then it becomes a toy :P :)
i think that the main reason for lack of posts is ...well yes alot of us are burnt out on it until the full game release, but also it's just so much easier and ...convenient to upload them to the official sporepedia via the game instead of having to upload them into a posting here.
well its been a while since anybody's followed up on this thread, but EA has announced that it's gone gold (aka, its on its way to mass production), so no more delays, on target for September 7
the PC version (Galactic Edition), i may also get the DS version later based on how much I enjoy the game (yes, i know the DS version isn't really the full-fledged game as on the other platforms)
VoidPresence is a oxymoronic title I gave myself several years ago that kinda embodies the Buddhist idea of 'emptiness is form'... to put it as simply as I can
