I think he is a fantastic reviewer and yet I hardly ever agree with his reviews. He is the only person in the games industry who correctly uses the 10 point scale.
" In my opinion he becomes more of an unlikeable character as the books progress. He starts to make bad, irrational decisions and becomes extremely temperamental. The good news is that every other character in the series becomes pretty cool. "
Yeah, Harry upped the amount of TEEN ANGST™ which was a bit of a letdown. He doesn't so much become "badass" as much as his self esteem starts to raise and he becomes a little arrogant over being the Chosen One during a few points. Even though the books are all about him and his adventure, you mostly want to keep reading because of all the people he meets because they're loads more interesting. In the books, Harry had more a snarky, I-Don't-Give-A-Fuck, rebellious attitude that was toned way down in the films.
If anyone became more badass and awesome, it was Neville Longbottom. He's probably my favorite student in the series.
Harry Potter was never about being a badass. Dumbledor knows amazing magic but you only see him use it a few times and he never goes over the top he just does what he needs to. Voldermort is just cold and does what no one else would. Harry Potter is a story about a person being thrown into a situation where he has no control of his destiny and living with it through whatever means necessary. Harry is brave but not a bad ass.
I assume you are from the USA? If you are I suggest watching one of the games in a bar or in a setting with other USA fans once you see how passionate the fans can get I'm sure your mind will be changed. Or better yet come to England and soak up the atmosphere here.
