Andrew Ryan, the creator and designer of the city known as Rapture, once said, "it was not impossible to build Rapture at the bottom of the sea -- it was impossible to build it anywhere else."

If Andrew Ryan asked you, before it went to hell, Would you move to Rapture? Leave everything for a utopian society?

Eutopia is synonymous with distopia. Perfection can never be achieved, and to attempt to do so most often results in cataclysm. So I vote "no."

Hell-fucking-yes I would move to Rapture. It went to hell for a reason sure, but I've played the game. I can advise him on how to avoid this, all I need is a wrench and the lightning plasmid and I'll take out that Frank Fontaine!

Remember, you don't know that plasmids would exist.  So an ADAM addicted society would be impossible to exist.

It wasn't even Utopian before it went to complete hell.  People were promised a better society and were enslaved by Ryan before Fontaine made it even worse.

Maybe if there weren't plasmids or people with huge egos at every turn. I'm all for a community made up with the elites of society, but most of audio logs made the smart dudes sound like total pretentious dicks.

Probably not, 'cause then if I disagree'd with him, he'd probably either kill me himself, or have me turned into a Big Daddy, and that doesn't sound pleasant. Ryan only asked the best of people in their field, and well, I am not the best in anything I don't think. Now, would I want to visit Rapture before it goes to hell in general? That's a question I was going to ask on here a few days ago, and a question I was thinking about for myself to answer, and I'd say yes, most likely, but would I have knowledge of it going to crap or not? That's something else I was thinking, if I did, it'd make the journey there even more scary, but I may still do it.

Can you set me up with a well paying job?

Can you set me up with a nice place to live?

Can you ensure that the area is interesting and I'll have things to do?

Can you ensure that the people in the area will be interesting?

IF you can answer yes to these questions, sure.

In real life, once you really hit the job market, you will be asked to move upon finding a new job, or sometimes you just want to run away. You simply have to ask yourself these questions and see where life takes you. Sometimes you end up in the lap of luxury, sometimes you end up in a shithole for a certain amount of times. And, in the case of bioshock, sometimes you get both.

In the context of the game, this would be the mentality of the parasite. Ryan would say he owes you nothing, it would be solley your responsibility to create your own living within the framework of complete freedom he's created (and start paying him for the use of his breathable air and other property). Frank Fontaine on the other hand would happily hook you up, just as long as you did him a few favors here and there...

Most of these responses take into the account of knowing what happened throughout the timeline of rapture after the events unfolded. No one knew it was going to go to hell, no one knew people would do the things they did. If you take into account how rapture looked at the very beginning, or the very idea of it then it is incredibly enticing and promising. But obviously that we know what happened and how it turned out, of course people are going to say no because they feel smarter about the scenario.

If I thought the system would work I would. I would love to live in a place where the the ideals of rapture are reality but I'm skeptical as to whether it's possible. I'd probably go as long as I knew I could leave at any time.

I don't have anything tying me down to where I live currently, so yes, I would go. I would also be a part of the problem and abuse Adam and Plasmids, because who doesn't want to start fires with a snap of their finger? Eventually I would have wound up as just another Splicer.
