E3 2009 Interview: Left 4 Dead 2

im lookin forward to this ,i never got # 1

I hope they continue updates for Left 4 Dead one. I expected more than match making updates.

Never got the 1st one I think there needs to be more levels in this one.

I always wanted to get the first but it seemed like the kind of thing that wouldnt work with randoms on the internet (lack of coordination and whatnot), and im the only with of my friends with a 360, so I never did... can someone confirm or deny that the game works well with just random players, so i might look forward to the sequel or not?

Slowly convincing me that a sequel was a good idea... but still disappointed with the lack of map updates with the first one.

I think Valve did a piss poor job of getting across the "added value" sentiment for L4D, which was it's replayability.  If anyone has ever played CS or CSS, you know what I'm talking about, but all I hear from people is the lack of content in L4D.

I played the shit out of L4D, and got more than my money's worth, so I can't wait for L4D 2.

they should have called this L4D: Episode 2

Glad to hear about the 4v4 matchmaking they're developing atm for L4D 1. Also, I'm slightly optimistic over what he said about integrating the two games.

If I buy a game, I feel it needs a strong single player campaign mode. 60 dollars for multiplayer just won't cut it for me. I don't always have the time to jump into a multiplayer game that I can't pause, in fact, that's very rare. I played the first game, but only rented it, and was not at all sad that I sent it back a few days after I received it.

Best news of the show.   Particularly that you can still play the old maps on the new game.   L4D was by far the best MP game of the last year.  The New Orleans setting is inspired.  DAMN I can't wait for this to hit the street.

"Competetive website"? GiantBomb is the only videogame website in my World. I am not too sure about the new Left4Dead. It looks a bit dated.

Look, as long as the original campaigns make it into this game...i guess ill be happy.

I liked the first one and this one seems just as good, if not better than the first with the new weapons and levels, only grudge is that I felt (and still feel) that there isn't enough content to drop that much money to buy the game IMO... I mean don't get me wrong it's a great game, but I expect more content than what I'm paying for. Also, I feel more and more that they'll drop or slowly drop support for the 1st L4D )= Either way I'm waiting to hear more about it before I decide to drop money for this one.

More Pills Please

I loved the original and bought it on both the 360 and PC. It'll be a long, long time before I decide to pick this one up. And if/when I do, it will definitely not be for full price. Everything that guy said about sounded like DLC to me, not enough for a whole new full price game.

I'm off to GameStop to reserve this RIGHT NOW.

L4D2 is coming way too soon imo.  Kind of undermines my decision to buy the original game.  This interview makes it sound like this is the game they wanted L4D to be originally and that the first one was nothing more than a test to see if this kind of game would sell well. I guess they're just trying to strike the iron while it's still hot...?

I'll buy it, and I can see there is a lot of content in it that makes it worth buying. But... come on valve, this just isn't you.

pretty awesome. still not clear exactly how many new infected types there are to play.  Just one (charger)?  Or 4?

It's not like they can easely add new campaigns as patches as a campaign has multiple levels, multiple unique models/textures and so forth.

I understand dude's point, but there's no real way to get around that consumer reaction but wait it out. I myself havent even got L4D yet and I love Valve's games, I'd like to play that while it's still fresh but now they're making a sequel already.

On top of that, if they can completely change Team Fortress 2 over time with updates, what's stopping them here?

Can't wait. Hopefully what he said about all the new content in L4D2 will silence the "OMG ITS TO EARLY WTF THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN THIS DLC" people out there.

NIce interview, and I understand more why it's a sequel now. I still hope there's more to it than that, but it's a good step forward in explaining everything.

Man, I love Left 4 Dead, and am SO ready for more. I have two issues however.

1. They HAVE to bring out more 'movies' for the campaign of the first title.

2. Is it me, or does Chet appear heavily medicated during this interview?

Still frustrated. It just kind of seems like it wasn't really worth purchasing L4D the first time around with it happening like this. Like... it's a squel to a game that hasn't been out for very long and has the possibility of simply invalidating all the original L4D content, rather than making it a secondary option.

This solidifies my confidence that L4D2 is worth my time.
