History
Sub-Zero is actually the name of two separate characters in the Mortal Kombat world - two brothers, both warriors of the Lin Kuei. The first, merciless Sub-Zero was the killer of Scorpion, and participant of the original Mortal Kombat Tournament. However, during that tournament, the undead Scorpion had his revenge, ending the older brothers life. This deceased Sub-Zero, was banished to the Netherrealm and became the undead fighter Noob Saibot, while his younger brother partook in the second MK Tournament in order to complete the mission of his fallen brother. He is known as a kinder, balanced warrior who fought out of justice, not cruelty and anger, and so when Scorpion witnessed him spare a kombatant's life, he realized this was not the Sub-Zero he loathed. Since this time the younger Sub-Zero has become older, stronger and wiser, growing out of the shadow of his brother's legacy and transforming into a powerful leader in his own right.
Sub Zero through the ages
Endings
These are the endings that you receive after beating the game as Sub-zero. These are directly from the in game messages right after you beat the main boss.Mortal Kombat I
"After receiving the title of grand champion, sub-Zero disappears back into the shadows from where he came. His only goal in the tournament was the destruction of Shang Tsung. He was paid a large sum of money by Tsung's wealthy enemies. With his mission accomplished Sub-Zero will collect his fortune and retire from his dangerous fortune."
Mortal Kombat II
"When Sub-Zero failed to return from the Shaolin tournament and rumor of Shang Tsung's survival reached the Lin Kuei, they immediately sent another assassin to complete the task. This new warrior is actually the younger brother of the original Sub-Zero. He enters the Outworld contest and accomplishes his task. He learns of scorpion's foul vendetta against his brother but will never know why his life was spared. Perhaps a third tournament is is in his future. "
Mortal Kombat III
"In vicious battle, Sub-Zero faces Cyrax and Sektor: but not alone. He finds his third Lin Kuei assassin - the elusive Smoke. Before automation, Smoke and Sub-Zero were allies. Sub-Zero helps Smoke recall his past and gains him as an ally once again. Sub-Zero defeats his cyborg assassins with the help of Smoke and finds it takes all of his own inner strengths to defeat Kahn and his Outworld minions. The former ninja once again disappears into the shadows, his legacy known only by a select few."
Special Moves
- Iceblast: A blast of ice that freezes the opponent long enough for a free hit. If a second blast hits a frozen character, Sub-Zero himself will freeze.
- Ground Ice: An ice blast sent to the floor leaves a large frozen patch - any character to walk over it will slip around uncontrollably.
- Ice Clone: Creates an ice replica in front of him. If an enemy touches it, the clone smashes and freezes them
- Slide: Crouches and slides along the ground, knocking down an opponent.
- Iceshower: The same principle as the Iceblast, except he fires the blast upwards off-screen. The blast will then come back down on top of the opponent if they have not dodged.
Fatalities
- Spinerip: Arguably the most infamous of the fatalities, Sub-Zero rips the head, and spine, out of the back of the enemy.
- Deep Freeze Uppercut: Freezes the opponent, then uppercuts, shattering the character. Two separate button combinations were required (one for freezing, and one for the uppercut).
- Snowball: Sub-Zero throws an explosive snowball at his opponent, causing them to detonate in a spectacular fashion.
