It's not a game based on microtransactions. You can play just as well without using the store as you can with items from it. Most of the items from the store can be earned in game too.

I was expecting to buy this game after the week was up with a few friends of mine. This is great news, more money for hats!

This is an outrage to people who bought the game! I paid $2.49 in a sale almost two years ago and I've spent well over 100 hours in the game and now it's free? I'm boycotting Valve forever! 
 
...or something like that. I'm sure I'll find someone saying something that stupid if I head on over to the Steam forums.

Considering the way Valve sells TF2, I'm surprised they didn't go F2P months ago. Still, good for them. Now everyone can trade hats, be they rich or poor!   
 
On another note, cool video. Not nearly as many good lines as Meet the Spy, but it'll sate my appetite till Meet the Pyro releases alongside the trailer for HL2: Ep3.

Some of my friends who didn't own it before are getting excited, its nice. 
I'm not interested in the game anymore myself. Played it for a week before I got bored, and I only check it out occasionally. It was a pretty terrific first week though.

Great! More free things is always a good thing.

First the free Portal 2 Soundtrack giveaway and now this? Valve is doing EVERYTHING in their power to make us forget about Half Life 2: Episode 3 and by god I think it's working. Seriously though, I just got a new laptop to game on this past Tuesday and I was thinking about investing in Team Fortress 2. Personally, it's awesome that this happened. Free stuff is always awesome.

So what if I paid for this back when it first came out? It was part of the Orange Box. I've probably spent more in the in-game store than I did on the game itself. There's no reason other people who do this shouldn't get the same benefits.

This seems like a good move from Valve, at least for me! I don't own the game but I can be certain that is going to change tonight!

It's a shame that the servers are so rammed at the moment that nothing works

I don't understand people who could only play this for a few weeks, I played TF2 on the 360 with no updates for a whole year before I bought the PC version during the Medic update.
 
And even then I still played the 360 version a lot more until I found more servers on Steam.

I played it a bit on Xbox Live. It may be interesting on PC.

Well It doesnt affect the gameplay or anything, a bigger player base, I dont understand why's there so much QQing and moaning on the steam forums bout this.
 Plus got a free hat cuz of the premium acc, not that im a hat fanatic or something  but it's cool.
Plus Meet the medic is the best from Meet the team
