So me and a couple of friends who are absolute crazy fans of the Uncharted series kind of saw this desert scene coming.  First amazing water then snow and now sand.  I honestly believe if they get it right this could be their best environmental effects ever.  Seeing Drake roll into the sand and getting back up with sand rolling down his pants in shirt.  When he is behind cover looking down you can see the sand falling out his hair and see all the footsteps behind him.  Add in some new mechanics and hopefully we can see a repeat in game of the year maybe. I know you wont let us down Naughty Dog

lol oddly enough, this was one of the first things I got really excited about. Like you said though, the water and snow were really well done in the past titles.

Naughty Dog has an incredible engine team. I'm predicting sand builds up on Drake's clothes and hair like water in DF, snow in AT. 

Am I the only one that wasn't impressed with Uncharted 2' snow :/ ? The ground layer and snow puff effect looked completely separate from each other.

I've met one of the guys who works on the particle effects and these guys do incredible work.  And I know that the whole game will look gorgeous and Naughty Dog will not dissapoint.

The snow in Uncharted 2 really wasn't that good. If that's any indication, then I suspect the sand won't be that good either.

I think both the water and snow in the Uncharted games looked great. Not the best snow or water ever, but still quite good. As for the sand, I assume it will be great. But I don't think that is going to be the reason to buy the game...
 
Anyone who says the snow and water look bad, though, are crazy. They aren't the pinnacle of those effects but they are still better than 95% of the games out there.
