Well I had this question all the time but never found a proper answer . I mean we all know that this console will be dead in no time ,  if we treat it badly .

what is the best plan for using the X360 ?

a plan which take advantage of the console  (hours wise ) while preventing any damage  (ring of death , etc ) at the same time  ?

baste it in olive oil, cook at gas mark 4 for for 1 hour, turn it over, and continue to cook at gas mark 3 until juices run clear (should take between 45 mins and an hour). Take out of the oven, carve and eat. If any is left over store in fridge and use for sandwiches within 3 days.

Keep it in a warm place with not much ventlation. An oven will work well. Make sure to cover your disks in sand before putting them in the console, and always use a mallet to push the power button. Also, the 360 works best at terminal velocity, so i suggest dropping it out of a plane.

To be honest, I have done nothing special with my consoles and they work like a charm. I keep my 360 in a ventilated area (ironically in a room that gets constant sun), and something to support it, and I keep it horizontal. Besides that, nothing really out of the ordinary. As for playing time, I normally don't play when it is very sunny/hot, for heat reasons and it is hard to see my screen. I really play no longer than 4-6 hours at one time, for my health and for my 360.

If all goes accordingly, I will be on my first 360 for two years, in February of 09.

I have 4 friends all with Xboxs. Well, had Xboxs. 2 of them just died on their own accord, one of them has a video card that died and the 4th was dropped by someone, and then they stuck another disc in. After that it just couldn't play DVDs.

Play and pray. One day it'll die. It's a case of delaying the inevitable.

If you worry about how many hours you are playing, then you won't have as much fun.

Just make sure not to leave it on overnight or something. And keep it in a open space so air can get in and out.

    And youll be fine.

Give it room for ventilation, try not keep it on for long periods of times 15+ hours, dust it ocassionally, and give it lots of hugs (this is optional).  I keep my horizontal, I'd recommend that if you have space.

There's also a setting on the 360 that if it's on for 6 hours of inactivity it will automically shut off.  This helps if you forget to turn of your console.  Once time I left for a 9 day vacation and forgot to turn off the console, but I had this setting.

I don't recommend keeping it on overnight. However, I have done this recently, last night I left it on all night and I didn't check how it was, turned it off, and later went to play it again. No problems.

I don't do it often, but I don't recommend it either. Unless you are playing all night, of course.

I own a 360 and my first one died. I had a lot of things around it. As everyone said just keep it with good ventilation and make sure the rooms clean. If you have clothes and things around it, it messes it up a lot. Just do logical things and you'll be aiite. Peace

I reccomend you play it until it breaks down. The more you break within the warranty period the better. It'll teach microsoft a lesson. My 3rd one stopped reading disks on sunday. That's a far more common problem than the RROD. If you live in USA you are screwed. If you live in Canada you get a new free 360.

Also, if the drive stops playing disks, try punching your 360 in the disk drive as hard as possble while it says "reading disk". It makes it read disks again. In my case.
