Sony Announces PSP Favorites, Other PSP Deals

Excuse me while I download.

Need something to download on your PSPgo? No? Well, you might be surprised what you'll find your fingers doing in a few minutes. Sony has announced a new line of 10-dollar downloadable PSP games, dubbed "PSP Favorites," this afternoon (via Joystiq and PS.blog). A total of 16 titles were revealed for the price point, and it's a list that has some great-to-decent titles like PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe, LocoRoco 2, Patapon 2, and quasi-golden oldies like SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo, and Silent Hill: Origins

The full list, excluding the aforementioned, is: Ape Escape: On the Loose, Buzz! Master Quiz, Hot Shots Golf Open Tee, Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow, Twisted Metal: Head On, Justice League Heroes, Manhunt 2, Midway Arcade Treasures: Extended Play, Pinball Hall of Fame: Williams Collection, Sims 2, and The Warriors

No Caption Provided
If newer and cheaper is more your taste, then the newly announced PSP Greatest Hits entrants might be more up your alley. Starting this afternoon, you'll be able to download Gran Turismo, LittleBigPlanet, Resistance: Retribution, and Secret Agent Clank for 20 bucks a piece. If you're a total newbie to the PSPgo, as in you don't even have one, be aware that if you purchase the funny-looking handheld from today until March 31, you'll get a PSN voucher from Sony (via email) for a free download of three different titles: SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 3, LittleBigPlanet, and Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters.

For once, you're not being left out, Europeans. Sony is also busting out an even better version of the latter deal for several regions
== TEASER ==
Starting June 9 and rolling until September 30, Sony is literally giving away a total of ten games to anyone who buys a new PSPgo or purchased one after April 1, 2010. If you qualify, all you need to do is hit the PSN store and download "the new PSPgo theme." From there, SCEE will e-mail you a voucher that'll let you download the following ten games: Assassins Creed: Bloodlines, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, Gran Turismo, James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game, LittleBigPlanet, MotorStorm Arctic Edge, Need for Speed Shift, Pursuit Force: Extreme Justice, 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa, and Wipeout Pure.

You can argue that the US deal is a pretty transparent attempt to get more people buying PSPgos, and then used to downloading and buying games, but this European deal? It seems downright desperate. That's a lot of new games up for grabs for anyone who bothers to buy Sony's smaller handheld. I wonder if this deal will stimulate sales as much as it seems like Sony wants it to.

That's pretty bad. The PSP is a sinking a ship and this is pretty much Sony throwing all the cargo overboard.

Wait, but LocoRoco 2 is listed as being $7.99 on PSN. Does that mean they're raising the price? I wouldn't put it past them...

I still don't regret picking up my PSPgo, it's been great being able to take it everywhere without carrying around those UMDs, not to mention the 5 free games they have chucked at me before and now they want to give me more? sure, i'll take it.

Biggest issues is Sony not being strict enough and forcing a PSN release, not had to miss a game yet, but there's some that are UMD only and worries me something like Peace Walker could be one of those.

Edit: only applies to those who bought it after April 1st... I take back every nice thing I ever said about the PSPgo, Sony is the worst company ever and I'm going to buy a DS and pokemans.

As always, I'd like to hear these explanations

As for me, who doesn't have a PSP anymore, and who hated those fucking UMD discs, the GO seems perfect for me, and this sweetens the deal... however, it doesn't change the fact that there's $15 dollars in my checking account until next pay day.

And the PSP will still be shit. All people do is pirate, or rip their UMDS and play the games on the computer with a controller.

Until it gets a second analog stick, it will always be a failure. That, or change it so the PSP is actually a system that is meant to be played on the go, instead of being a place for half-assed PS2 ports.

As E3 is nearing, and they did this now, maybe they are trying to get rid of a lot of the go's for, I don't know, the next PSP!

Good for the PSP. As for the Go, can it play Crisis Core or Lumines yet? Until then its not a PSP.

Still rocking my PSP-1000 over here. I'm an original! *Insert miracle whip picture*

There are some pretty good games in this list, Pixel junk monsters is a good game, and Patapon 2 is worth much more than $10, so everyone should go get that game.

In an age without bundles,  it looks like software is now the loss-leader. Amazing.  Gotta put that PSPgo inventory into people's hands somehow.  May as well with profitable games.
There must be Sony meetings that go "why is the PSP the only handheld device people don't want four of?"
I've got a 1000 and a 3000, and I'm done, thanks.

I have yet to own a PSP of any kind, and am not directly opposed to the Go, so this is one hell of a deal.  We'll see how money lines up but then maybe I can make the jump.

Since these deals seem to be for anyone who purchased a Go after April 1, it would appear to be a twelve month long program running until March 31 of next year.  Assuming I'm not completely mistaken.

Man, I love the idea of the PSP Go. I think it's a sleek and sexy handheld, yet I just can't bring myself to buy one. I keep thinking about how much life is left before Sony announce the PSP2, and then I'll end up buying that as well. This deal is great, I really want to try LBP, Motorstorm, Patapon 2, etc, but I've pretty much much convinced myself the PSP is already outdated.

10 games is not a good deal. The majority of those games have a lot to be desired. Its just a desperate attempt to look like its a good deal. Sony have tons of great games on the system, but they always seem to screw themselves by not choosing the smart way of doing things.

Shame that $10 = £10 in these cases. £5 for some of those 'classics' is a much better deal.

if this is the beginning to a push towards PSP support I'm all for it...if it's an attempt to off-load remaining stock and make room for the PSP 2, then it's just pure greasy on Sony's part.

...although I'd absolutely buy a PSP Go Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker Limited Edition.  Not sure why the limited edition they're releasing for that is just in PSP-3000 format.

It better be coming as a digital copy. Square-Enix would make more profit because of the lack of packaging and that way they can sell it for all PSP models, not just UMD-based ones.

Sounds like they're gonna ditch the PSPgo pretty soon heh.. anyways, I'm happy with mine - mostly because I bought it for less than half of the full price.

I'm not really interested in anything other than Monster Hunter and MGS Peace Walker though.

Man, a "heads up" would've been nice. I just bought a PSPGo 3 weeks ago.

Not sure why the US deal can't be retroactive.

Still, the price drops are welcome. I can't justify $39 for a download on a portable, but $19 is a breeze.

There is no point in buying a new handheld before E3.  If after that there is no sign of the PSP2, then it's reasonable to invest in a PSP (go or 3000) if you still want the games. Neither SMT: Persona game is on the list and those are the only ones I am interested in.

I like the idea of the go.  Having all my games on the system seems great.  I think it would be nice taking it out and having my choices without having to deal with any UMDs.  The Go to me seems like a step in the right direction.  I just can't get it at that price though.  You can buy a 120 gb elite which has ODST and Forza 3 included for 50 bucks more.  If it was price better (at least under 200) I would probably jump on this.
