it's the more powerful of the two.

The PS3's power is debatable, and even if it is more powerful than the 360, it isn't much.

Anyway, everyone else has already really answered your question. The PS3 displays in 720P natively and doesn't uprez, whereas the 360 just uprezzes everything to 1080P and that's what the TV sees.

that is a shame, I thought the third one was great (didn't care much for the first two though).

Pretty much my thoughts on the series.

I've beaten all three and the PSP game, and out of all of them I have to say that 3 was pretty damned good and two was the worst of the bunch. The first one was OK as a launch game but hardly stands up as anything more than that, and the PSP game is... well, a PSP shooter. I'd have enjoyed the PSP game on the PS2 or PS3, but unfortunately that isn't going to happen.

So, yeah. One noteworthy game, two decent but wholly unremarkable ones, and a stinker. Too bad the series is getting flushed just as something worth playing comes out of it, but oh well.

EDIT: Except for Burning Skies. That seems to be the last flicker of hope for this series. Hopefully it will stand tall and bring it back with a new developer who can do the series justice.

I'm not getting a Vita for a while, though I would really like to later on. But if I were:

(and I'm including launch window titles as well)

-Uncharted: Golden Abyss

-Gravity Rush

-ModNation Racers

I would also get a 32GB memory card with it. Later on, I would pick up Resistance Burning Skies and Ridge Racer.

Rayman Origins and UMvC3 are both games that I would prefer on my Xbox for the local factor (i.e. playing with a friend next to me.)

Ever played the first two Metroid Prime games? Those are great, and are still better than pretty much anything released today. Even if not for your website, you should play them.

The first and second Halo

The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay is supposed to be a good, inventive FPS but I've never played it.

Ratchet and Clank 2 (Going Commando/Locked and Loaded if you're European, I think) and 3 (Up Your Arsenal) (1 doesn't hold up as well and Deadlocked is a solid shooter but nothing drop dead amazing)

Jak and Daxter 1, 2, and 3

Super Metroid

Castlevania Symphony of the Night

Crash Bandicoot Warped

DLC will probably have the biggest impact on the games industry, but as far as game design goes I think it's RPG elements.

Experience, stats, leveling up, etc., have permeated so many things this generation. Call of Duty, Gears of War, Halo, Uncharted, Resistance 3, and so many more have thrown leveling into their games and in some cases (Gears) points toward leveling are given for any gameplay whatsoever. Borderlands made stats and leveling an integral part of gameplay. Mass Effect 2 and Fallout 3 and both very much shooters but they have a huge emphasis on actual role-playing as well as experience points.

Also of note are achievements and cover based combat.

No, they are not the same.

Nintendo caters to the Nintendo crowd. Sony and Microsoft are out to make the biggest buck and compete with each other; Nintendo doesn't care about that. I think that one of the things they wanted to do with the Wii and are trying to do with the Wii U is bring some of those, er, "hardcore" games to the Wii so that their waning fanbase doesn't wane anymore. In other words, they're trying to get away from the stigma that only first party Nintendo games that come out every now and then are the only thing that Nintendo really has to offer.

Ever wondered why their newest controller looks weird, but could still play more traditional games? The Wii wasn't like that.

Of course, the main reason to get any Nintendo system is to pick up the next five years' worth of Mario - Metroid - Zelda, but in between development times it would be great for Nintendo if they sold more third party games like Darksiders 2 or other third party games that have expressed interest in releasing on the Wii U.

I feel like way too many times, I say "Gosh I wish this came out on PC." -cry- Do you guys have consoles to cover your bases? I used to have a 360 but got tired of them dying and it was having an absence of great games coming out at the time. But now I'm seeing more and more games for consoles making me jealous. What is the situation for you guys?

"Also" implies that my PC is my main gaming platform. It is not. My Xbox is; this is partly because I like consoles better, but also because I can never get as comfortable playing games on my (Intel HD powered) laptop as I can on my Xbox or my brother's PS3.

Yes, I got angry that I was being asked to kill the leader of the only group in the whole fucking game that helped me without trickery, unnecessary deceit, or bickering over stupid shit.

Seriously, if the the Empire and Douchebag Stormcloak could just shutup and fight together, maybe they could overthrow the Thalmor at some point. Especially if they got Paarthurnax and the dragons, as well as the godlike player character, on their side to help. Really, guys. Is that so difficult?

And Alduin the World Eater? Psh, he was a pushover.

The books and music.

I don't generally listen to video game music as a leisure activity; however, some of it provides for excellent study listening material. The soundtracks for the Elder Scrolls series, for instance, are designed for ambiance and mood. They are not designed to constantly draw your attention to the beats and the rhythms and the lyrics; rather, they're designed to fit the game world and to focus your attention on that. While being a homework helper isn't their intended purpose, it is a very practical application for me.

The books because I like to read stuff. Just stuff. Bad stuff, good stuff; I'm especially tolerant of bad stuff if it presents more information about a story I like, though I haven't read much in a while. An example of an excellent video game book is Halo The Fall of Reach and its sequel, First Strike. Both books, as far as I'm concerned, are shining examples of how to successfully describe space combat while keeping the suspense up. If you like space navy fiction at all, you should probably read these two books regardless of your opinion on the games.

EDIT: Changing post for seriousness.

1) I probably wouldn't have such shortsighted friends in the first place. However, if one of them were to say something like that, I would calmly tell them that I don't want to play CoD at the moment. Why only "not at the moment" instead of "fucking never"? Because I (holy shit!) really like Call of Duty! Every one of them (except 3)!

Besides, I've noticed people at my college playing Mario Kart on the Wii. Mindblowing, isn't it?

2) The older members of my family berated my gaming habits for a long time. There was some truth to it - there were many times where I would forego something that would have been good for me to play more games. Still, it was rude and disrespectful of them. However, at this point they have pretty much given up on trying to get me to stop and have left me alone.

So, were they to say something about my gaming habits, I would just completely ignore them like before.
