Thanks for that, I just heard the laugh he makes in that game in my head, despite having not played it since 1993!

I believe it's one of Novation's Launchpad models, but I'm unsure of which one. He has mentioned it at some point, but I've forgotten where. But, yes, it's a standard MIDI controller, and I think he has just set up the soundboard as sample instruments in a DAW (he has also mentioned which DAW at some point, but right now I can't recall if it was FL Studio, Ableton or something else). It has no built-in sounds in itself, it just triggers the sounds on his computer.

Anyway, shouldn't be hard to replicate using any kind of Grid based MIDI controller and any DAW you can put samples as individual instruments in, then just set the instrument to be monophonic so it cuts itself out and starts over when you push the button over and over.

Oh wow, it's a physical device? This changes everything!

The problem is when someone says "soundboard" I imagine a terrible website from the 90s with low bit rate wav files playing when you hit a button that someone made in Microsoft Frontpage.

Total Annihilation and Cavedog/Boneyards - ladder play, championships and ranked games before they were a thing.

I miss proper TA very very much.

Let me take you back to 1997, here listen to this: This. The year is 1997 and Dynamix have just released a game that is absolutely better than MechWarrior, it's called Earthsiege; but enough about that, what about this game called Outpost 2: Divided Destiny?

It's a sequel that nobody played to a game that nobody played, at least that's what it feels like when you mention Outpost to avid RTS fans and they give you a blank stare back.

If you've not heard of Outpost 2, maybe you've heard of Earth 2150 a game where you could build custom units using a tech tree, Earth 2150 was very much based on Outpost 2 in that your military units were formed by building an appropriate chassis, then building up from there, weapons equipment, support, etc - a really diverse experience that is unparalleled in today's weak RTS market.

In true RTS form though, this game isn't all about military units. You need to keep your colony under control and keep them happy - No, I don't mean making sure a number is in the right colour or your gold mine won't work I mean keeping people happy and making sure revolts don't happen which threatens to close down your entire colony if you don't make sure everything and everyone is in order.

Poor morale can lead to population stagnation or economic recession, you can't just focus on military fronts, you're the sim city mayor as well as a military commander.

If you can handle looking at an RTS game that looked bad in 97, let alone 2020 then I highly recommend giving it a go. The game did badly in sales, I remember that, it was too much in a market that was expecting another KKND or C&C to come out, not a sim game where you can also build tanks.

Did anyone else play it when came out, did you enjoy it as much as I did?

Starsiege Tribes is the only real answer here. It had ballistic projectile drop, and the maps were huge so you could kill people behind hills with a rain of hot bullets from a mile away with it.

Also, it looked cool. In my head.

Am I too late to add one? Are you doing another?

Anywho, it's about GLOBAL WARMING, I know what you're thinking, "Wow, that's very topical", and you'd be right, it is very tropical after global warming, oh, topical? I wasn't aiming for topical, I was aiming for tropical, but, whatever.

I would like to see a greatest hits collection of Hitman missions recreated in the modern engine.

That would be wonderful! Or at least the maps with the missions recreated in Hitman 2

I bought Hitman when it came out ('99?) and it was great, I definitely got Silent Assassin and Contracts, but I couldn't describe any of the missions it was so long ago - But Blood Money I remember all of them, perhaps because it wasn't so long ago!

I'm sure it's not what people want to hear, but I'd pay full price for a remake of Bloody Money in the new engine, that game was the highlight of the franchise, nothing has matched it yet. Hitman (the original) was fantastic but it was clunky.

I've spoken to a few people that played Link's Awakening on the Gameboy and most people remember the same thing as me, the music - The ending theme in particular.

I used to beat the end boss over and over again just to listen to the end credits - It's the best rendition of the 'Zelda theme' (Overworld theme I guess!)

https://youtu.be/xBqkLx4AMrg?t=204

I also really hope they do a version of the song in, I really have no idea how I remember this, but, Richard's Villa, it was a rendition of for the frog the bell tolls from The Prince's Adventure.

Anywho, it's been almost 25 years since I played it and even had a gameboy, never had chance to play it in colour either which I wish I did. I've genuienly not been this excited about a game since Quake 3.
