@bigsocrates: I want nothing more than for J.S. to develop a game. Those reviews would be priceless.

Stadia is fine. They should have done the Epic store thing of free games. Even if just one a month or quarter. At this point because of Epic’s goodwill I’m more than likely going to buy #Hades there. Also they should have partnered with hotel chains or something. If Motel 6 gave me the highest grade internet at least when I was playing Stadia I’d honestly only stay there. As of now the hotel internet playing well with Stadia is a crapshoot.

@apewins: It took more effort to type out your reason than the amount of time it would take you to redeem the titles. I guess you are really adamant and that will show them.

They are absolutely killing it. Even the PS4 collection might have been a mistake and they probably should have just drip fed those games monthly through ps plus. All of my typical knocks about the lack of PSVR titles or there not being a native PS5 games don’t apply here. I chose the XBox service subscription over PSPlus for the permanence of "free" 360 titles and the well of missed 360 games is a much more curious quantity than all of the PS4 games that I've been tracking for years. Had a PS5 from target in my basket yesterday but the allure of backwards compatible titles in Xbox and maybe getting a Switch with Animal Crossing are likely my next gaming move.

This game was fine. Classic case of hardcore reviewers that play games with bloated playtime like Persona and JRPGs as well as Destiny and WOW and other bastions for time sucks projecting their desires onto a Bioware project. I'm glad we've moved away from review outlets to personalities. I ignore personalities 100% whereas outlets seem relevant when they truly never were.

@bigsocrates: I’m not interested in current gen. Of course I still click through wario64’s Twitter links and would probably buy one if the option presented itself. I’m kind of not interested in gaming going forward with Ubisoft openly coveting free to play and we are kidding ourselves if we think anything but customer service phone reps work well in a work-from-home scenario. In what would be a 30 second transaction between team members, management, and production now has to take place at the mercy of screened phone calls, distracted employees, and people wanting to actually do something meaningful with their lives and families... the videogame industry is going to feel covids fallout for years. The only faith I have in games are remastered and backwards compatible things. I imagine Microsoft is saying “look life sucks we know just get me 4K + 60fps on Ty the Tasmanian Tiger and you’ll keep your job and even get a raise.” That's why we are probably getting the FPS boost mode for older Xbox One titles in a limited capacity right now because of Microsoft leaving their employees alone to just work. Maybe this is why there are issues with Dying Light 2. People are less tolerant of anything during COVID. I know I'm not tolerating Office Space in my real life if i can financially afford not to.. bye Felicia.

I picked up a ps2 so I could play all the games that I was hoping PS5 would natively play. They were dumb not to announce the PS4 backwards compatible stuff before preorder sales went live (at least if they wanted to secure my dollar). So I don’t see the point in next gen until Microsoft turns on the next wave of backwards compatible titles. EVERY game is going to be designed to pivot to free to play the moment the profit calculus hasn’t aligned, and none of them do. Much like there was a watershed moment on phones when people chose 2048 over Threes consoles are doomed to a similar fate. Launching games into PSplus means another never ending subscription service with the assumption that any shortcomings are fine since somehow spending money on it still translates to free.. All I can hope is that my Xbox one-s has the same shelf life as the ps2 I just bought. 20 years and counting. 20 years from now I doubt anybody will be playing anything from the PS5/seriesX it will be like loving fortnite 5 patches ago and wanting to play that... it’s not happening. Current gen is the buffet and previous gens are kind of like a real restaurant. Except this buffet has a line out the door and we are all curious. My backlog (gift cards to real restaurants or cook for myself) makes it so i don't ever need to touch these new consoles. With COD and now Tony Hawk not giving me free upgrades to current gen with the last gen copy there less and less incentive to upgrade. It's not like you can trade in your system at gamestop and get your ps5 for a discount unless you're going to go a period without a system and have that credit loaded on a gift card (how's that working out for you people that did this in November lol)?

@angrighandi: I think the sweet spot for VR is enhancements to games like Resident EVIIL. Go pickup roadside trash if you’re trying to simulate what virtual reality can do. Close your eyes. No wires!

Without reading (and i will). Nintendo gets a pass because they are a safe company to engage with if you have kids. I don't have kids but when i do, if the big 3 are still a thing, my kids won't be getting a playstation or xbox unless it's a curated hand-me-down system from me. PCs and the other systems are just the wild wild west for content. Nintendo builds in enough challenge and references multiple franchises in such a deliberate and complete manner that things a young mind need as far as increasing challenge throughout the life of a game or availability of other games in completely different genres (Mario RPG, or Mario Golf) that you can let your kid's mind wander to whatever his/her soup du jour and engages them outside of games. Now for me, personally, I really can't stand Nintendo:

  • The things they do to ruin games like Animal Crossing by not applying genre standards from the last 2 decades
  • Free-to-play model in the mobile space (mario kart and animal crossing) when they have the leverage to charge $50 and give me a complete game have pissed me off to no end.
  • JoyCon pricing because they can
  • Arbitrary number of times a demo can be played back on the DS/3DS which probably live on in the Switch is petty and mean. Reason enough for me to have skipped to skip the wii, wii-u, and switch (despite a momentary lapse with the switch lite because i was hyped for an ultimately delayed animal crossing)
  • Refusal to give us a "gritty" challenge in the first person/ 3rd person shooter genre. I want something exclusive that capitalizes on Nintendo's unique hardware and maybe something along the lines of Splatoon, except that game has no campaign to speak of...
  • No blu-ray or dvd player since.. the Panasonic Q
  • Is there a web browser? HBO Max? Youtube App? I'd like to relegate my phone to it's original intent.
  • The list goes on

Vita issues were numerous and probably more unforgivable than Switch sins for me:

  • Proprietary memory cards
  • Memory Card prices and sizes
  • Playstation 1 Parity impossible because of:
    • lack of R2 and L2
    • lack of R3 and L3
    • stupid back panel touchpad
  • Proprietary power so car chargers super expensive
  • No internal or little memory so initial purchase was just the beginning
  • no free games. If i buy a full fledge ps3 game i should have gotten something for free like tomb raider so i dont have to buy $50 games
  • bubble interface never changed and was just terrible.. should have mimicked the ps3
  • 3g gaming.. really. Even in 2021 we can't reliably game online. So 15 years ago.. didn't make sense even then.

Probably getting a Switch since the system has reached crtical mass. Despite being $20/year for online I’ll primarily single player game and local ad hoc (system link) when I can. What are the classic Nintendo disregard for gamers in this scenario? Where have they done us right? Where can I own one copy of the game? Where do I have to own 2 copies? What should obviously not require an internet connection? Etc?

For me the ambient dialogue is top notch. If you watch a Bond film you really don't hear the inane conversations that must be going on with the 1%.

The shooting is atrocious though. I'm skipping H3 and waiting to hear how Bond handles the shooting. H1, H2, and presumably H3 have TERRIBLE shooting. Some could say that is the point but it needs to at minimum channel Uncharted's terrible gunplay and at best something like Division.

@thepanzini: Not oblivious. Asking you to do your part and buy war bonds. Rosey the Riveter style. I thought the spike in price was gamers doing the right thing. It's not too late.
